The day we got the dehydrator we wiped it all down and started using it almost immediately. We started with 3/4 of a bunch of celery, 1 large white onion and 1 large red pepper and 2 large green bell peppers, let them cool, put them in jars and vacuum sealed them. Come harvest time this is going to be my best friend{sorry canner...LOL}. It is as described. Its so quiet that I have gotten up to check it to make sure it was still running. Next we tried bananas, the only down fall was that I did not put them on the mesh liner so its going to be a little work getting them off the tray. Today I am going to be doing carrots The dehydrator is of good quality as are the wire racks. The only con is we are unsure of how to turn off the machine without having to unplug it. The media could not be loaded. I've been wanting to get a food dehydrator to start making healthy treats for myself and my dogs. This 10 tray dehydrator looked like a good place to start. I'm guessing as I learn more about dehydrating food I may look for other features, but right now this one is perfect. It looks professional and industrial - I like that part. The stainless steel trays don't strike me as incredibly sturdy, but they do clean up pretty easily. The manual is lacking in guidance and specifics. Can you fumble you way around with the buttons until you get the dehydrator to operate? Yes, but you shouldn't have to do so. The controls are counter intuitive to me but once you get the sequence down, you're good. The light inside of the dehydrator is a really nice feature. And I like the large viewing window for seeing how your food is progressing. The unit I have emits very little surface heat on the stainless sides and top. Other reviewers speak of having to let it run a bit before using it initially to do a burn off. I did clean the inside and trays before using and I fired it up empty for about 15 minutes to see what happened. I didn't experience any burn off or smells of any kind. It was ready to go. I loaded a few trays with 2 quarts of sliced strawberries for my first run. I love the taste of dehydrated strawberries and find them to be a healthier sweet treat. I googled recipes and looked in the included dehydrator book to find an average time and temperature setting. I ended up setting it at 131 degrees (that's the closest the temperature presets on this unit come to 135 degrees) and ran it for a total of 9 hours. The strawberries turned out great, I had some that were sliced thinner and some that were thicker, I divided them out on the trays accordingly and as the thinner ones were done I pulled them out. I did let some of the slices go longer to see how they would taste on the crispier side and I really like the flavor of those too I found the dehydrator to be quiet while running. There is a slight uptick in noise when the fan runs. I did include a video so you can hear the noise level. Overall, I think this is a nice dehydrator and I'm super happy to be able to start making all sorts of healthy treats for both my pups and myself! ... show more

I wanted to start making some healthier snacks and taking my health seriously. So I got this so I could make apple chips, banana chips and things like that and it has worked great. with the 12 rack setup I am able to make enough for a whole weak and its very simple to use. I found some recipes and instructions and got right to work and so far everything has turned out great! It takes up a little space but its easy enough to move into the garage when it isn't being used. And while it was a somewhat expensive one-time investment. This works really well. I am impressed by the performance and how the food tastes. It has come in handy when prepping for camping trips. It is heavy, but I expected that. It is also sturdy and I anticipate it lasting for a really long time. It is intuitive and easy to use.

This is a pretty good dehydrator. The included manual and recipe book are translated from Chinese - focusing on cuisine and vegetables common to that region, but one can quickly adapt or find recipes for other fruits and meats quickly online. Pros - 1) compact the 12 tray model is 12wX12dx16h and could process 5 lbs of thicker cut Top Round jerky at a time 2) quiet - the sound from the dual fans was barely noticeable, much quieter than a Nesco 3) easy to clean - the trays fit easily in the dishwasher 4) even drying front to back - the lateral airflow was great - items on each tray were consistently dried Considerations 1) Temperature settings are in increments of 7F (or 5C) e.g., 147F to 155F - not really an issue for most uses 2) Timing is in 30 minute increments (30 min to 60 min) - again not an issue, just a feature 3) The bottom two trays do dry a little faster than the top two - typical for most dehydrators and easily corrected by rotating trays Overall a great, compact dehydrator - ideal for light/medium use and a worthy addition to a kitchen. ... show more

Oh my goodness! ability to save money on dried peaches. This so helpful and saves on money. Dry fruit is the best! I so love this and I share it with my family. My kids enjoy this as well. It is good to see my kids enjoy something besides wanting candy all the time.

I remember drying fruit in my grandma's old dehydrator. Hers was a good sized all metal deal like this one. This gives me nostalgic vibes in a good way. This unit, however, would really impress Grandma. It has a nice digital control board and a lot of shelf space.
