The trays feel a bit flimsy but they stack well, just don’t abuse the poor thing and it will last well. It’s works for everything I have put in it: meat, veggies, fruit, mushrooms, etc. all turned out great! Comes with a guide book for various foods as well. I just put the items in at night and it’s done in the morning for most things. Fairly quiet, but occasionally it beeps. Decent size and I like that you can choose how many layers to add so it doesn’t feel like you’re wasting space. I'm new to dehydrating and needed a "starter" unit. I've used it about a half dozen times now, for vegetables/herbs (peppers, carrots, snap peas, basil). It seems well built, and does the job. It generally takes longer than the manual says, but that seems to vary a lot based on how the food is prepared (e.g. size of pieces, blanched vs, not, etc). So far the size seems adequate, for example it was able to do 13 bell peppers (cut into 8 strips per pepper) using 3 of the 5 trays. My impressions: Pros: - Compact yet holds a good amount. The grid on the trays was tight enough that nothing fell through even cut up fairly small. - Feels sturdy. Trays stack solidly in either high or low position, and have shown no sign of wear so far - Easy to clean. I quickly wiped rinsed trays after use, but to be honest nothing stuck to the trays and I didn't even feel a rinse was necessary. - Did what it needed to do. Would have liked it to be faster, but I get the feeling that's the nature of the beast with non-commercial dehydrators. Cons: - I think the highest I was able to get the temp was about 140F, I don't feel like it can reach its supposed max of 158F. - The actual temperature it reached didn't usually match the set temp, and seemed to vary a lot, perhaps based on the number of trays, amount of food, etc. I would say you pretty much need a thermometer (preferably a point and shoot laser one) and do some trial and error to be able to properly manage the temp on this thing - The "dot" on the temp knob that shows you what temp you are setting is extremely hard to see. I fixed this by applying a dab of white nail polish. Overall, I would recommend it if you are someone who dehydrates occasionally in moderate amounts ... show more

I haven't had a dehydrator in a few years but recently I've been growing a lot of herbs hydroponically. I needed something that I could dry the herbs on, as well as excess fruit. So far it has worked great. I haven't tried making jerky yet, but that's on the list. This has 5 trays that are semi adjustable. If you just set the trays on top of each other, there is enough room for most herbs to dry. If you set them with the teeth lined up, then there's more room. Sufficient for most fruits and likely meat for jerky. I've dried several different herbs, apple and pineapple. I would recommend getting some mesh inserts if you're going to be drying herbs, especially herbs like Dill. The grate for each tray aren't too big but smaller herbs will fall through without an insert. Overall I've been happy with it for what we use it for. ... show more

This dehydrator is so easy to use that I went from wondering how to use it to wondering how I could get it wrong. I have sliced up apples, bananas, and strawberries and coated them with lemon juice and put them into the dehydrator. They taste great and the hamsters like having a steady supply of treats. Anything explicitly marketed for pets seems to cost a lot more and I can control what goes in their mouths. ... show more

I was looking for a cost effective starter dehydrator and this item surpassed my expectations. It does not have a timer or accurate temperature setting but for the price you really can't complain. The unit is fairly quiet and performs well over a 12hr period fully loaded with fruit.
