We eat dinners in the family room while watching a movie and sit on an old couch with a coffee table that raises to table height. I am 77 years old and sitting on the worn and flattened cushions of the couch was causing pain in my hips so that it was difficult to walk for a bit when I got up from the couch. By the end of a 2-hour movie, my legs were uncomfortable, beginning to ache, and felt like the blood supply was cut off from them because the couch cushion flattened so that the frame of the couch was hitting the back of my thigh. Since we haven't found time to get out to find a replacement couch, I turned to Amazon to find a temporary solution. I ordered this "butt cushion" in addition to 4 others in hopes that one of them would relieve the discomfort of sitting on our couch. I wanted something firm enough to overcome the flattening of the old couch cushions, but, it trying the different cushions, I found that shape and size is also important. Since I weigh 112 lbs., most of the cushions I ordered were firm enough, but the support offered by each was different. Some flattened after a short time, and some just weren't very comfortable because of the shape. This cushion is more expensive than the others I tried, but saving money at the expense of less comfort wasn't an option. I have been using this cushion every night for over a week, and no longer have the hip pain when I get up from the couch. The leg discomfort is also gone. The 4 other cushions have been returned. Since I weigh 112 lbs., I can't vouch for how this cushion would hold up to more weight, but it works for me and I am happy with it. UPDATE 07/30/24: I have been using this "butt cushion" every evening for at least 3 hours for the last 2 months, and I wouldn't want to do without it. In this time, it has not flattened at all, is very supportive, and perfectly fits the contour of my butt and thighs so I no longer get pains in my hips and legs from sitting on our old couch. You would think that finding a suitable cushion to sit on would be an easy task. In my experience of trying different cushions, I found that the perfect cushion is a very personal thing. Not only does it have to supply a comfortable firmness for support, but it must conform to your individual "butt contour". I bought this fir someone chair ridden and it's working perfectly! Pilliw quality and comfort.. we had others types, but this one is thicker and harder, does not squish down like others. Despite the non-slip bottom, it still slides around on my office chair, I'm constantly repositioning it. Im an office worker and sit for most of the day. My butt was killing me from sitting. Not my back, my actual butt. I got a new lazyboy office chair and that didnt help. After a few months, padding had compressed and it was uncomfortable. Im an average sized person so this should not have happened. As a last ditch effort to try to help, i bought this cushion. Wow! What a difference. Very supportive and love the shape. Forces me to sit correctly and is padded in the butt area as well. Doesnt seem to get hot and its super easy to use. I’m 37 and had an emergency spine procedure 6 months before purchasing this product. I had an L5-S1 procedure and after surgery I had a lot of tailbone pain. I used this cushion in the car and drove 1000 miles to move and I had zero pain the entire trip! This cushion aligns your spine and supports you so so well. While the cushion initially provides a soft pain relieving seat, it soon compresses down to about 40% of its original thickness that makes it a hard seat that allows the pain in the ham strings and gluts to return in about 10 min. I’m sure that people with mild pain symptoms and less body weight can get longer relief. The problem for me was even with the 60% compression of the cushion I was still sitting too high in the car bucket seat to utilize the rear view mirror. While the side view mirrors work well for the outside and inside lanes, the behind the vehicle view of the rear view mirror’s best view. Adjusting the mirror unfortunately cut down on view. Clearly my back issues are more severe than most people as my hip is detaching from the socket. I would recommend that people with less severe issues may want to try this cushion as the shape and contouring are good and it might be a good alternative for long time sitting for them. This is def. More expensive than other brands but you will be glad you spent the money. It is 1000 better than all the other ones in the market. My wife is a cancer patient who had a broken hip and had to wait for surgery. This allowed her to sit up and not be in pain. It was amazing. I’ve bought these before but was not impressed. I have had lower back issues for ages. And even tho our Jeep is on the higher end, traveling any distance hurts me. I keep trying to find a better position to alleviate the pressure. Today I tried this cushion for a 2 hour round trip. Hubs drove. I was surprised at how good the cushion felt. So much better, on the way back home, I had my husband try it. When we got halfway home, he told me to order him one. That should say a lot. Hubs has hip issues. You do sit higher in the seat, which for me, shorter, is perfect. Now I have a much better view of the road too. Don’t let the price deter you from buying. I bought a much cheaper pad but it was not made for spine pressure relief.
