I have used this a few times, and the results have been good. Meat cooked this way is very tender and juicy. The only issue I have seen is that my iPhone can see this device, but the app refuses to connect to it. This is not really a problem because the control panel on the device is easy to operate, and all you are setting is temperature and time.   • A better smoked chicken

I thought I had the perfect smoked chicken in my charcoal smoker. When done to the proper temperature, the breast would be moist and a dark smoky bark would form. But I experimented with the Anova cooker. All of the whole chicken sous vide recipes called for spatchcock, but I kept my chicken whole in the zip lock bag for 3 hours at 150 F. Then into the charcoal smoker for about 1 1/2 hours until a nice dark brown formed. The big difference is that the moisture does lock into the bird. Even the wings were still moist, and the breast was moist and fork tender. Also, the seasoning was more even throughout the meat. It's different from 4 hours in the smoker without sous vide. Is sous vide smoked chicken better? I would say yes for most people. If you like a strong smoky bark, then straight smoker is probably better for you. But if you want a mild smoke flavor, tender, moist and evenly seasoned, then sous vide is better. And the Anova is super easy to use and does the job well. ... show more

  • Easy to work with and it gets the job done!

The media could not be loaded. I find this Nano 3.0 Sous Vide cooker to be easy to work with and it gets the job done! This is my first experience with Sous Vide cooking, and I think the ease of use with this cooker may be key to me enjoying it so much! I love the app, which comes with an easy to use guide as well as recipe suggestions. The fact that I can operate the cooker straight via the app is a very nice feature! And true to the advertisement, it keeps the desired temperature steady and does not overcook. This is great especially with tougher cuts of meats, which come out as tender as can be thanks to this handy little machine! Love it and highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Works, but sous vide is not for me

The product works just fine, but sous vide just is not for me. I’ve cooked with it 10-12 times and wasn’t particularly impressed. The sous vide cooking is over rated in my opinion, it doesn’t do anything so much better than a pan or oven to warrant the extended cooking time and planning.   • Cooker is nice; questionable reliability and terrible wireless connectivity/app.

This is the third one I've received from Anova - the first one wouldn't update the temperature at all; it'd just display 32.7F even if the water was boiling. The second one didn't power on at all. This third one works as a standalone unit; however, it will not connect at all with the app. It'll complete the pairing process, and then just not show up, and the app will make it reconnect, endlessly. The first one did, strangely. Still, the app isn't really needed, but it's annoying that the feature is touted and doesn't work. The cooker by itself seems quite nice; the buttons are responsive, and the controls are easy to use. It heats pretty nicely, and if ignore two bad units and the connectivity problems, it seems like a high-quality piece of equipment. However, having had essentially 3/3 of the cookers having problems, I wonder about the reliability of this one, and if I want to keep going through the exchange process. ... show more

  • Easy and Fun

This Anova Sous vide is an excellent buy. It’s fun and so easy to use. Just clip it on to your container, plug it in, add the food to well sealed bags, set the time and temperature, and when the water bath has reached the desired temperature just push the start button. That’s it! Now a few suggestions. Read about the concept (ahead of time) so you know what it actually involves. YouTube and the internet can do this quickly for you. Find the appropriate container to use. I like a see-through 6 quart food grade container. Amazon also has these. Decide what types of bags you feel comfortable using. A good Sous vide cookbook and YouTube can help you with that. You will be surprised at how quickly you can do it! The results are phenomenal! Have fun! ... show more

  • Easy to set up and works with any container

My husband has trouble swallowing, so meat has to be very tender and not dry. He hasn't been able to eat steak or similar cuts of meat for years. Our neighbor suggested cooking with a sous vide, and I wanted something that was basic and easy to use. We were sold on this simple model with the very first use! The 1 1/2 inch thick sirloins had virtually no fat and no marbling, so they looked like they would be chewy. After seasoning the steaks, I packed them individually in quart-size Ziploc freezer bags, and removed most of the air by squeezing, immersing them most of the way into water to push out more air, then sealing the bags before immersing them completely. After 1 1/2 hours at 130 degrees followed by a quick sear of 3 minutes on each side on the grill of my air fryer set at 400 (topped with a bit of margarine while searing the 2nd side), those steaks were perfectly medium rare throughout and as tender and juicy as a NY Strip or Porterhouse at a decent restaurant. I can't wait to try other, cheaper and tougher cuts. My husband loves steak, and he is really happy that sous vide cooking will let him eat it again. Note: This particular model does not come with an adjustable clamp. It can be used with any container as long as the water reaches the minimum level and does not exceed the maximum level. I still chose to purchase a sous vide container with a flip-top lid and rack to hold the bags upright and separate so the water can circulate evenly around the bags. I am glad I did, and I would recommend doing it. The container also stores the rack and insulating sleeve as well as the sous vide machine. ... show more

  • I never knew what I was missing

Like many, I had heard various people on youtube raving about sous vide cooking. I thought it was all hype until I got this cooker. It works great, and is incredibly easy to use. What's more, the quality of my steaks/chicken/etc. has never been better.
