I waited about a year to review this, as I wanted to see how it would work long term. It works great! First off, the popper comes with warranty and freebies...but good luck hearing back from the company. About 2 months later I heard my warranty had processed. I could not redeem their free offers no matter what I tried. It's OK because, frankly, I prefer to use another company's oils and salt. Still, since I could not redeem the offer, I e-mailed them, but received no reply. So, as far as the customer service goes, not a great experience. I lowered one star for that. But, like me, I doubt you're buying this for the freebies, nice as they may be. They just lost a potential customer, since I really could not sample their offerings. Who knows, I might have loved their oil! Now, to the popper.... I have owned an air popper (never again...I hate chewy popcorn), a microwave silicone popper (they work well, depending on microwave wattage......), an old-fashioned long handle popper and a regular old-method pot. This popcorn maker truly wins the prize. I'll never go back unless I buy a home theater machine, and if so, it will be a Whirley Pop for sure. The popper itself has worked GREAT. I can honestly say that when it dies (as everything eventually does), I will get another one. I have not burned the popcorn once, in a year! They state it takes just a few minutes to make and, for me, that has been true. I'd say 3 minutes tops. When you click the lid on, you need to make sure it is well centered, so as not to leave any gaps. I once had it too much to one side and heat was escaping from the other. But, that is rare. Otherwise, popcorn comes out great! HOWEVER...keep in mind a few things. 1) I use this popper on a GAS stope top. Gas and electric work differently when it comes to heat. 2) I know when to turn the burner off, and with gas, when it goes off the heat is done...not so much with electric, and 3) I use coconut oil and theater salt to make the popcorn. Coconut oil has a low smoke point and works great for making popcorn in these kinds of makers. It gets hot fast, gets popping fast and is done fast, so helps to not burn the popcorn. THE SPIN: The lever that spins the popcorn works great, but you should not force it. The cogs will want to separate. There is really no need to force it. It will go round until it resists, at which point you're pretty much ready to start shutting off the burner within about 15 seconds as you still hear a few pops. I shake the popcorn maker a little bit on the stove top, but it is pretty much done by then. Again, as I stated above, I have yet to burn my popcorn. And very few kernels are left unpopped. CLEANUP: Easy. The lid clicks on on two sides. Then, one flap remains clicked shut while the other one, with the wooden handle, opens to let you put in your kernels, oils, etc. and then to empty the popper, once the popcorn is made. Once you pop the lid open from the secured quick release clips, the entire top comes out ready to be washed. Make sure you're careful with the thin spinners when you wash the mechanism. Because the lid and mechanism all come off together, that also leaves you with just the pot (which is nice and light) to clean, and that also cleans very easily. It literally takes me around a minute to clean the whole thing. Honestly, I spend more time cleaning the popcorn bowls, spoons and anything else I used! POPCORN QUALITY: This is tricky because a lot has to do with the oils and the actual kernels you use, so I find reviewing this a bit odd. Frankly, I use organic kernels from the grocery store. Nothing too crazy. I find that the popcorn is crunchy, but not right away. If you leave it just a few minutes, it gets crunchier. This could well be, in part, because there is a certain amount of steam inside the maker as the kernels pop (as with most makers). But I can say that after a few minutes, the popcorn is nice and crispy. I have absolutely no complaints. So, based on all of the above, this has been one of the best popcorn makers I have ever owned. Now it makes me want to go make a batch...but it's only 3:30 PM! ... show more

My husband and I love this model of popcorn popper. We are avid popcorn eaters- we pop a bowl almost every night. We had this same popper for about 5 years but had to replace it because oil built up in the gears over time and the stainless steal was getting hard to clean. We had purchased a different model with metal gears and did not like it- it made an awful scraping noise when turned. We searched a while until we found this one with the nylon/plastic gears. It makes a delicious bowl of popcorn every time and is very user friendly once you get the hang of how to use it. ... show more

I looked on the internet for people's opinions of how to make the best popcorn, and Whirley Pop was consistently at the top of the lists. Apparently I live under a rock because I had never heard of this device, but I decided to give it a go. I received my color changing Whirley Pop yesterday and tried it out immediately. After washing and seasoning it, I tossed in 1/2 cup of popcorn and 2 tablespoons of avocado oil and got cranking. The red colored pot quickly became a bright yellow, and soon I had corn popping. I kept cranking until I couldn't crank anymore because the pot was full. I'll cut to the chase -- the popcorn was perfectly cooked, and there were a grand total of eight unpopped kernals -- 8!! That's it! That's astounding! Unlikely microwave popcorn, there's no trash, and I know exactly what's in there. To clean it, all you have to do is wipe it out with a paper-tower. I definitely recommend the color-changing Whirley Pop pot. I'll be making some more popcorn today! ... show more

Making popcorn 3 nights a week now! Easy to use and the popcorn mood is satisfied. The corn produced by this popper is superior to microwave popcorn. The clean up is quite easy. Sweet corn - 2tbsp coconut oil, 1/3 cup corn, 2.5 tbsp sugar..swirl it around to mix then pop - lightly salt in bowl - amazing. Clean immediately with hot water and soap to keep popper nice Cheese corn - 2 Tbsp coconut oil, 1/3 cup corn..pop...put popped corn in oversized Ziplock with 2 Tbsp powdered cheese, ADD NO SALT - amazing. This thing has gotten my family through covid quarantine. We love going to the movies, but due to the pandemic, we haven't been in months. This Whirley Pop is so easy to use and it makes popcorn just like at the movies. I've thrown all of my microwavable popcorn bags in the trash since purchasing this. My only cautionary note is that the directions say that popcorn takes two or three minutes to make with this-- I have found that it is more like 8 or 9 minutes. But worth every second! ... show more

I found one of these types of popcorn pots many many years ago at a thrift store and decided to try it. It was beat up and not in great shape. It produced the absolute BEST popcorn ever. It wasn't this brand and this year the old one finally became difficult to crank so I bought a BRAND NEW ONE!! Yay! This model works so much better than my old one. Pop your popcorn with coconut oil. Drizzle butter after it's popped, top with salt & nutritional yeast. Waaaay better than popcorn from the movies!! I also signed up for a warranty and I'm awaiting my goody package. I bought this to replace my old Whirley Pop I've had for 10 years. The old one was getting baked on black that would not come out. Even though it has a 25 year warranty, I doubt they would have replaced it. But, I do love it. Used on electric stovetop.
