  • It's fine.
Color: Black
This is DEFINITELY not seasoned. In fact, I received this as a gift years ago, and have put off using it knowing good and well I'd have to clean the beeswax off. Anyhow, 4 years later, I have a need for it. Cleaning off the beeswax is a non-issue in spite of what other reviews say. 3 soaks and scrubs with hot water, vinegar, and dish soap removed the bulk of it. I popped it in the oven at 200 for half an hour to let threat of the wax melt before soaking it up with paper towels. Now I'm just seasoning as usual until I get the finish I need for an open flame. I'm literally doing my first season as I'm typing this out, and everything is taking as I'd expected. It's producing a bit more smoke than usual, so brace yourself for that; but it's already hitting the black(ish) color we're accustomed to. All in all, I have no issues. For the (minimal) work involved, you're better off just going with Lodge. But considering this was a gift and I'm appreciating the learning curve of working with something unseasoned, I'm not mad at it. ... show more

  • Love it!
Color: Black
We frequently cook cobbler over an open campfire and it works really well. Just a couple of cans of pie filling, a dry cake mix, a stick of butter cut into patties, put over the coals for 20-30 minutes until the cake looks slightly browned. Delicious! TIP: Coat the outside and bottom with Dawn dish soap just before putting in the fire-it makes it a breeze to clean off the soot after the cobbler is gone. ... show more

  • Good for price
Color: Black
Made in China!!! But for the money it’s a good Dutch oven. Took season well.

  • Absolutely Wonderful Product
Color: Black
This is now my #2 favorite camping supply (just below my stainless steel French press) Absolutely wonderful! First trip out with it and I was able to make fluffy Rice, boil potatoes, pop popcorn, make Cheese Dip, even flip pancakes and bake calzones in it! An absolute game changer for meals in the woods! The swinging handle works great with a Tripod (if hanging above a fire) and the legs + ridged lid work great for covering in coals for baking. Do be sure to follow the instructions for seasoning it though as it does NOT come pre-seasoned. ... show more

  • It's Okay but it's no Lodge; be prepared for some elbow grease and time to make up the difference.
Color: Black
It's not Lodge nd it's not Camp Chef that's for sure. I bought mine from Amazon Warehouse Deals thinking I'd save $20 off of a Lodge with just a little clean up. I didn't think it was worth it. But if all you've got is time on your hands may be you will. PRO: Inexpensive Apparently not known to California to be hazardous to your health. Oh wait what's that waxy coating? CONS: Casting moulds are poor and rough and that's exactly the texture you will receive - feels like 60 or 80 grit sandpaper Surface is way too rough to just have a few fish fry's and have a great bargain on your hand. You WILL need to pay some attention to it. Sharp edges Not pre-seasoned (per specs). The Chinese wax must be burned off and it must be seasoned before use. Lid doesn't seal tightly. There's a position mine that seems to be OK - but it's not a "put the lid on and its pretty tight". I bought this knowing some of this - and also not expecting this to be so bad. What I did was buy a 4 1/2" flexy nylon abrasive disc for my angle grinder and go to town on it. I wore that pad out getting the inside, the sharp edges and most of the top. I still didn't get the outside not feeling like 80 grit sandpaper. So now we're at $25 for the oven and $10 for the angle grinder pad - equals $35 and a couple hours grinding and sanding. For $10 saved off just buying the Lodge. I can say it's imposssible for a angle grinder to get into a 10" pot and do a perfect job. It's far better than it was - and has a shot at being fairly non-stick with a good seasoning. So the grinding with the nylon abrasive pad was required - but it's far from pretty or as cast or proper machine. I then stripped it in the oven cleaning cycle (or you could burn most of it off as suggested in a hot oven or very hot grill). It's on it's 3rd coat of Flax Seed Oil - which I highly recommend for any cast iron. 5-6 cycles of a coat of Flax Seed Oil, and then from cool oven to 500F for then an hour to cooling to room temp in the oven. 5-6 times and you'll have a great seasoning that's almost as good as Teflon. So "It's Okay" but know that it's no Lodge and that you'll need to spend a variable amount of money (abrasive pad) and elbow grease (sand paper and/or grinding) to turn it into what you could start with just buying Lodge or perhaps Camp Chef. ... show more

  • Bargain Price for a QUALITY Dutchie!
Color: Black
This Dutch oven far exceeded my expectations. If you've never seasoned new cast iron it does involve some work, but even the "bigger" brands recommend additional seasoning before using the pre-seasoned ovens, so for this price it's a real winner. Use an oil with a high smoke point (extra light olive oil is good) and do it properly and you'll have no problem. Whatever oil you decide to use, a lot of people will tell you that certain oils will go rancid and to avoid them - that only applies to the oil itself, after the oil is seasoned properly, rancidity is a non-issue. Not sure why one reviewer said it was a bit "rough" - it needs to be to absorb the oil properly. After seasoning it will be slick as a whistle. Made BBQ rub chicken breast as first recipe, oven performed flawlessly, and cleaned up perfectly after cooling down. Next morning made some homemade bread (all of this at the campsite) and it didn't stick AT ALL, nor did it taste like BBQ chicken. I would definitely recommend this oven to others! ... show more

  • Nice construction; easy to season. Heavy duty and tight fitting lid
Color: Black
I wish it was made in the USA, because I am not sure if there are carcinogens or other toxic materials in the iron or used during the manufacturing process in CHINA. So far so good. Seasoned in the fire and then in the oven. A lot of smoke indoors, but necessary for proper seasoning. Cooked with it the same day and it provided thorough and even cooking over a hardwood and charcoal fire suspended by a tripod. ... show more
