I had my doubts when I ordered this. But when I used it those doubts evaporated (dehydrated??). Has good temperature and time control, heats quickly. I had a cheap dehydrator years ago (plastic circular) that just didn't work so I researched better units, was about to drop some serious $$$ on one then I spotted this and I'm glad I did. You can make all sorts of goodies with this for you or your pets. PROs- Easy to use, looks good on the counter, easy to clean, doesn't heat up the kitchen when in use, great drying shelves (metal, not plastic), light-weight CONs - short power cord, not fully stainless steel Update Dec 2023 - I've used this a lot since the review , still going great. I have made lots of jerky (need a bigger jerky gun now), both the flat and sticks. Made jerky for both myself and the puppies, look up recipes online if interested, will likely save enough on homemade jerky to pay for the unit.     • So far not happy... read if you are curious why.
UPDATE: I've now used this MANY times since January. It has finally found its way to the TRASH. It never seemed to get up to temp (165), and what should take 6-10 hours to dehydrate, literally takes 24 plus hours and requires refrigeration because it is not exactly dehydrated. Waste of money, does not work. Be mindful reading my initial review below. I should have returned it immediately. What I like: Easy to set the time and temp, size, and the potential volume of one dehydration setting. What I do not like: out of the box I was disappointed as it feels flimsily constructed. Thin with a lot of plastic. But I do not determine value by look and feel alone. Here are my concerns. 1) the base footing is extremely slippery. The unit slides easily and could use something rubber beneath it. Opening and closing the door makes the unit slip without proper footing if on a smooth surface. 2) the door hinges are not great quality, they are wobbly even if properly fastened, causing the door to not close properly. It hangs down and you have to then lift the door in order to close it into proper position for the unit to run. 3) it is LOUD. When I turned it on for the first time it was such a bummer. Perhaps some don't mind the noise, but I do not like to listen to my long running appliances while I am working or enjoying my space. It's like listening to a loud vent fan run for 6+ hours. If we decide to keep this unit it will have to be moved to the garage. Bottom line, had I tested prior to purchasing I would not have selected this and instead looked for a more robust unit better suiting what I was hoping for. ... show more

This food dehydrator works perfectly. The design is impressive in my opinion. The racks are sturdy and slide smoothly on metal guides inside the dryer, which is all metal except for the electronic display and side handholds. While the fan is audible, it's not overly loud or bothersome. The recipe book included with the dryer is fantastic. It's well-written and packed with a variety of recipes and useful information. For instance, there are over twenty recipes for jerky alone. You might need to find some more recipe online if you are more into drying fruit. Moreover, the size of the dehydrator is just right—not too tall or bulky. It fits perfectly on the countertop and is ideal for residential living spaces. Despite its compact size, it offers excellent quality with stainless steel racks, adding to its durability and appeal. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Temperature control and timer were a little touchy but it works well when you get used to it. We used it occasionally for the last month and now it no longer heats. Hopefully they will make it right and either offer a refund or replacement. Only have had it for a month and a half now. Update: I was sent a replacement unit. I hope the first unit, that failed, was just a hiccup because I love these large, square trays and the auto shut off feature. My dehydrated foods turn out amazing, retaining their color and flavor. ... show more

I bought this dehydrator couple of weeks ago and since then I’ve used it almost every other day! It is so easy to use, so many different foods I can put in dehydrated for my daily fresh snacks and most important, so easy to clean it! I really like its stainless steel trays and I don’t need to worry about the temperature during the process of dehydrating. I had a plastic trays dehydrator before but I used it for a very limited food items only as I was afraid of higher temperatures with long process time for the food on plastic trays. Now with this new stainless steel trays dehydrator, I don’t need to worry about the temperature anymore. I also noticed this machine is quieter than my old one. I really enjoy using it! ... show more

    • Plastic smell transfers plastic taste to dehydrated food.
I have updated this review below, and am recommending to not purchase this product. It looks great and dries well, but the interior is plastic, a plastic with a strong smell. Unfortunately, I now have a whole batch of dried apples that tastes of nasty plastic. That taste lingers long in the mouth. It's likely unhealthy to consume (even if you wanted to tolerate the plastic taste). I ran it empty once before using with food, in the hope it would dissipate the smell, not even thinking about the fact that it might transfer to the food. That wasn't enough time, apparently. Now I'm running it empty on the highest temp for a long time. I hope it helps because the return time is past. Otherwise it's a big expensive piece of junk. Update: After running it for a couple of days, the smell did finally dissipate. HOWEVER, after maybe 7 loads of drying product, the top heat with fan has failed and therefore not drying. Multiple issues with this unit. I would not recommend anyone buy this product. ... show more
