  • Love this Basic Canner - Great performance!
Size: 16-Quart
I have been canning for many years and have been using the 16 qt Presto brand which has been dependable and performed very well. I would have bought the Presto again but they only offer th dial gauge option, but I prefer the weighted gauge so I reluctantly went with this less expensive, very basic canner. I am super impressed with the performance. I have used it twice since getting it last week. Easy to use, has all the instructions needed, heats quickly, holds heat at steady temp without a lot of adjusting, all jars have sealed and virtually no siphoning (chicken stock). The only issue is that the regulator has to be pushed onto the stem rather forcefully to get it seated properly - two "pops" to the correct position. ... show more

  • Does not jiggle, only spits and vents steam.
Size: 22 Quart
This model does not have interchangeable vent valves to allow you to use a jiggle weight. The weight will not jiggle, but will only slightly jump and spit/vent steam. The instructions do not specify this, and it took Googling and chatting with other users, to learn how to use this type of weight. It took me a couple uses to get used to this and learn how to appropriately calibrate the water necessary and heat temperature to use after troubleshooting. Otherwise, for the price you pay this is not a bad pressure cooker. If you are looking for your first time pressure cooker. I would definitely suggest spending the extra money to get one with a gauge and a rocker/jiggle weight. ... show more

  • How to seat the weight on the steam vent
Size: 16-Quart
At first, I had difficulty getting it to work correctly. The instruction booklet which accompanies the canner is inadequate and poorly written. I suspect it was not written in America. Instructions are vague and not well organized. I have been using a pressure canner for over 50 years, so I feel that being a novice to the procedures was not my problem. My biggest issue was the weight. I could not get the weight to "jiggle" properly. The canner only wanted to spew steam. Finally, after searching the internet extensively and reading user recommendations from different sources, I finally found one that helped me. The weight/jiggler has to be pushed down really hard. It's almost like it has two obstructions over which the weight must go to be properly seated. If the weight is just pushed on the vent gently, you only get steam coming out around it because it is not been pushed past the second spot. Make sure you use a dry heavy cloth to put it in the proper position because after 10 minutes of steam escaping, per instruction booklet directions, from the canner, one could easily suffer a burn. Also the canner lid has to be perfectly lined up or steam will escape from around the handle or lid. If that happens, turn the heat off, let it cool, take the lid off and reposition the lid and start over. Once you figure out the canner's quirks, it works fine. I hope this helps someone. The instruction booklet said all nonacidic vegetables had to be canned at 15 pounds pressure. I have never canned green beans at that pressure. All other instruction booklets say 10 pounds pressure for green beans; however I canned mine according to the booklet's instruction just to be safe. Does anyone know which is correct? ... show more

  • Metal stained after 1st use
Size: 16-Quart
It works well as a pressure cooker, but after cooking carrots for three minutes, the inside has a permanent stain at the water level. I( could always clean my last one easily, and had to use Bartender's Secret (?) scouring powder for 3 stains in 20 years. Very disappointing.

  • Quality
Size: 16-Quart
The pressure cooker is for canning but had no free standing metal spacer to keep jars from sitting on the bottom of the pot. The first time I used it, it warped and does not sit flat to the stove. I used my spacer from an old canner and it does work.

  • So Far So Good
Size: 16-Quart
I just received this yesterday and after reading some of the negative reviews I was a little skeptical. I am doing a test drive right now and followed the directions that suggested adding 2 qts. of water (no jars) , turn on the heat, let it vent 10 minutes and place on the weight. This is what I found; along with venting out the pipe in the middle steam was also escaping around the handle with the pressure lock altho' this concerned me I waited to see the results. When the red lock popped fully the steam from the handle slowed and when 10 minutes passed I dropped on the weight . I had it on high heat and when it finally began rocking violently I turned it to medium then again to almost low where as the directions said it rocked slowly. Every few minutes it would spin like crazy and emit steam. I think the problem most have is like I who am used to a big Presto with a gauge and a rocking weight we are used to that rocking sound and expect the same from this Mirro. After watching this operate for quite a while I feel quite comfortable in leaving it pretty much unattended only checking it every so often. I did order the 16 qt. weighted Presto but had to return it as the lid did not fit the pan and I was afraid to re order as it might be some weird factory run mishap so I took a deep breath and ordered this 16 qt. Mirro. I think it is going to be just fine but will update after a few canning runs. So far so good. ... show more

  • Second Times a Charm
Size: 22 Quart
The media could not be loaded. This is my second time owning this exact pressure cooker/canner. (The first was on my stove when it arched and it caused a tiny hole in the bottom. I cried) I really enjoy pretty much everything about this canner and I have never had any issues with it which is exactly why I bought it a second time. I can everything in it from half pints to half gallons. Heat evenly on my stove, locks correctly, and holds pressure nicely without having to adjust. ... show more
