  • Given as a gift. The recipient was thrilled
The gift was for my son. He and his new wife are pescatarian so the eat lots of veggies. He’s excited to be able to do sautéed vegetables on the grill.

  • Nice grill skillet
Seasoned it w grapeseed oil and grilled some veggies. Worked like a champ. It has low stars for versatility because it's not that versatile with a bunch of holes drilled into the bottom of it. Lol. Nice pan for grilling.

  • Completely nonstick? No
Experienced cook. Had this pan for about year and I like it. Usually use cast iron as Teflon pans are apparently toxic, thought I would try it. Much lighter than cast iron, heats and cools faster than cast iron and sears almost as well. Good quality. Much like my cast iron pans never got it to be completely ‘nonstick’ and to be honest with you I don’t care to. Don’t believe pans are ‘cleaned’ by wiping them down. I keep mostly nonstick by a gentle wash with warm water and soap then on to stove for dry and once smoking hot add some coconut oil. Use coconut oil because seed, corn, vegetable oils are are bad for you. Smear and wipe with paper towel. Well made, virtually nonstick pan good to go. ... show more

  • Dad loves his new grilling "toy."
I chose this pan with my husband in mind, since he loves to grill and is always looking for ways to turn things up a notch in the grilling department. He loves this pan and feels like some sort of big-shot chef when he grills with this pan; it also gets people's attention and is a conversation starter. The pan is awesome - it is a carbon steel pan with holes on the bottom, so you can flame-kiss foods that otherwise would be too small to grill. In the past we have skewered smaller pieces of food but this pan is so much quicker and easier -- and more impressive -- than threading bites of food on little sticks. Just place the pieces of food in the pan and grill to your heart's content, tossing the food as needed as you move the pan back and forth over over the flames. Our grill's flames are quite uneven, and this pan also solves that problem. When we skewer foods, some portions of the skewers end up over the higher flames while others are over the lower flame areas, which make it difficult to cook skewers evenly, but this pan solves that as you can concentrate the pan and your food over a smaller area and easily move it around as needed. Do be aware that this pan must be seasoned properly before using it, and it also requires special care, basically like a cast iron pan (never leave it soaking in water, do not clean it with soap, re-season it if you do). We initially seasoned the pan three times following Made In's instructional videos which we found on YouTube. The first time we used the pan to grill some shrimp, my husband forgot to toss the shrimp in oil before putting them in the pan over the flames, and some bits of shrimp did stick to the pan (see my photo), since a truly effective layer of seasoning had not yet been built up. A proper seasoning takes time and several layers of oil before the pan takes on sufficient non-stick qualities, so keep that in mind, follow the instructions in the Made In videos, and keep letting that seasoning layer build up. Made In has several videos on seasoning their blue carbon steel pans, but I found the two longer ones featuring a gentleman named Steve to be the most informative and easiest to follow. If you put keywords such as "how to season Made In carbon steel pan" in YouTube's search bar, these videos will come up. Seasoning seemed a bit complicated at first, even after watching the videos, but after you've done it once you will see it is a cinch. Made In sells their own brand of seasoning wax which works great, but I have also done a few rounds of seasoning with plain old canola oil and that works great, too, so get their special seasoning wax if you want, but know you can use any high-smoke-point oil and the results will be just as good. You'll also see in my photo that we grilled some pineapple directly on the grill, because it is best to avoid putting acidic foods in carbon steel pans. Just something else to know about this pan. Overall this pan requires special care but it is an awesome addition to my husband's grilling arsenal. It's an impressive piece of cookware and everyone who sees it comments and asks questions about it, then wants one. This pan would make a great gift for anyone who loves to grill. ... show more

  • Just... Wow.
This is the first I've heard of "Made In" cookware, I'm very happy to learn of this brand. My wife is a Vegetarian, and I like to BBQ. She ordered me this pan so that I can grill veggies for her when I'm staffing the grill outdoors. When we cook indoors, most of our pots and pans are stainless steel from a company called All-Clad. I'll say that this Made In pan is as well made as our fancy All-Clad pans. The pan arrives unseasoned, so I coated it with sunflower oil and baked it at 450 a couple of times to give it a good coating. During that process, I noticed that the bottom of this pan is very rough. The places where they've punched holes in the bottom are not finished, so they have jagged rough edges. This has worn smooth after a couple of uses on the grill. The pan is a champion of the grill. The handle doesn't get crazy hot, like some pans might. The holes allow smoke to flavor the veggies. If you maintain the seasoning, the pan is easy to clean. Honestly, this is a premium bit of cooking equipment. I'll have a look at the rest of Made In products. I don't NEED more pots and pans, but I sort of WANT more of these pans in my life :) I hope that helps! ... show more
