In my opinion, this might just be the ultimate cooking vessel! It truly is a “jack of all trades”, yet it excels in so many! What isn’t this great for? It can handle searing heat, or low and slow, it can easily be transferred from the stove to the oven, and back again. It’s a great heat conductor with fantastic heat distribution so it can bake breads, deep fry, or keep a dish warm for serving. With a little aluminum foil and a small wire rack, you can even turn turn it into quite an effective makeshift mini-smoker! I use the 5.5QT version, which is a nice medium-to-large “all around” size that can comfortably serve 6 people. It’s wide enough to easily use a spatula for flipping (it even sears a nice burger!), yet it’s also tall enough to go all out on nice chunky stew or bake an artisanal loaf of bread. The enamel coating is also an overall upgrade over traditional cast iron. It cleans up reasonably easily, and it won’t react to highly acidic foods such as tomato sauces. While it’s not exactly a non-stick surface, this is actually an advantage because it’s great for creating that perfect fond. On top of it all, it’s beautiful to look at. My Le Creuset Dutch oven sits on my stove as a permanent fixture because I use it for just about everything - from searing steaks to you-name-it! ... show more

I have always wanted a Le Creuset Dutch oven and I’m so pleased with it! I’ve already made a delicious pot of soup. It cooks evenly, cleans easily and looks beautiful on my stove. I actually ordered this originally on the Le Creuset website but unfortunately, that piece came delivered with a cracked handle. I decided to order from Amazon. I have had a le creuset 7.5 quart dutch oven for 10+ years and have been wanting to add a larger pot to my collection for some time now. This is a much bigger pot and naturally a little heavier but it's just what I want. I also have a le creuset skillet and a braiser and they're true workhorses. They're made to last and they look beautiful in my kitchen. I don't even bother storing them away, they're on display on open shelving in my cookong space. On this latest purchase, I tried my luck and took my chances with this 13.5 qt when I saw this Le Creuset dutch oven in Oyster, as a "used in good condition" at a tempting price.
