    • Perfect Iron Skillet for Even Charring

I have been looking to get an iron skillet for quite a while, the reason being I wanted a pan that can distribute heat evenly when I am charring steak or chicken that also not warp with repeated use like with most common non-stick pans. I was debating this pre-seasoned pain vs the Backcountry 10-1/4" pan, but with the 30% discount limited offer right now, this was my choice. I've used it for a week now, and boy am glad I made the right decision. I love it that this pan is 12" pan with plenty of room to cook 3 steaks at the same time with perfect even char on both sides. So convenient. One thing I want to mention is that it comes pre-seasoned, but I urge everyone to add add'l layers of seasoning to it. One coat is NOT enough. Because this is my first iron skillet, I made the mistake of using olive oil on my first use with some skin-on fish fillets. Later learned that olive oil is not best for iron skillet, and then I made the add'l mistake of drizzling some lemon juice on the fish while cooking which ruined the pre-seasoning coat that came with it. Live and learn! So after this mistake, I went out and bought avocado oil (my friend also recommended grapeseed oil or flaxseed oil, or essentially any high smoke point oils but stay away from olive oil) and seasoned it again with several layers. It works perfectly now. Also, you need to wash the pan right away after cooking with not water and all the stuck on stuff will rinse right off, no need to use soap which I am told is no bueno for these types of pans. Wipe it down, heat it up to dry off any excess water, than add a coat of oil before putting it away. ... show more

I really like this cast iron pan. Some features that differentiate this pan from similar products on the market include the extra large handle, the pour spouts on both sides of the pan, extra high walls for deep dishes, a lip opposite the handle to grab onto, and a impressively smooth cooking surface. It's weight reflects its quality. The only caveat to this product for which I am taking one star off is that you will need to appropriately season this pan yourself. The description says it's pre-seasoned and ready to cook with out of the box, but that's simply not the case. You should season it yourself a few times before using it heavily. ... show more

I wanted a 12 inch cast iron pan to use when my old 10 inch pan isn’t large enough. I had ground down my old 10 inch pan to make it smooth and while I felt it was worth it, it took a full afternoon, a lot of grinder work, and I didn’t look forward to doing it again to a 12 inch pan. Enter the iLiving Polished Cast Iron Skillet. Amazon had a 30% discount going, so I grabbed it! In appearance, this looks beautiful, functional, and high end. The weight is surprising; At 8.8 lbs, it’s almost twice the weight of the cheap pans. The high sides account for a lot of the weight but it’s just a beefy pan overall. The handle is VERY nicely shaped; I can get a nice grip and control the pan easily. I’m a large man, so I have zero issue with the weight. Smaller people may struggle. The ground, mirror finish is amazing and I literally couldn’t have matched it. As others said, it’s not really well seasoned when it arrives. Three times in the oven with Grapeseed Oil and this is almost as non-stick as my ceramic pan. Overall, this is an excellent pan and compares favorably to the $200-$300 brands. I followed the seasoning instructions included exactly, and my pan turned out looking a little funky looking. I washed it, dried it, oiled it on the inside and outside, placed it face down in the over for one hour on 500 degrees F, and then let it completely cool. After it cooled, it ended up looking a little weird. (See photos) The good news, and I guess most importantly, is that it cooks really well. I made a rosemary steak with asparagus in this skillet and it turned out fantastic. It created a flavor profile that’s so much better than cooking in a stainless steel or other frying pan. It’s also really heavy and durable. If you keep it properly seasoned and cared for, I think this is a great skillet that can lasts you years. Yes, there’s a lot of maintenance involved, but I think ultimately it’s worth it. ... show more

This is a very nice, heavy duty pan that should last a long time with proper care. It feels quite durable and looks good too. I haven’t tried it out yet, but I’m sure it’s going to work of great.

I followed the instructions to the letter on how to season it yet...it has never looked right since I removed it from the box. After the 3rd use, my son rinsed it and failed to put it on the stove to heat the water out of it. It rusted OVERNIGHT worse than any cast iron I've ever had. It is very hefty/heavy and arrived very quickly but...not worth the price in my opinion. ... show more
