  • 1949 Redivivus
Size: 3 Litre
I love this thing. It's a little bit of 1949 right there on the grate. Aside from an old French skillet we have, it's probably my favorite stovetopper. It works great and cleans easily. It even feels a little adventurous to wonder when that archaic whistle is gonna blast off. It is not as precisely timeable as our Kuhn-Rikon ($200!), so that cooking vegetables just so is a shot in the dark, but that is my only functional quibble, and we mostly braise or stir fry vegetables anyway, so I don't mind. The only downside - not worth a star's deduction - is that the (large) external label is secured with some kind of nuclear adhesive which resists every solvent I tried (I even got into the garage stuff: carb cleaner, gas stabilizer, kerosene - ) You can't just grind away at it, or the aluminum will mar, and it is a NEW pot. In the end sheer persistence (and grapeseed oil) carried the day (eventually), but maybe they could invest in a drum of rubber cement. I love this thing, though, so 5 stars it is. ... show more

  • Adventures in old-school pressure cooking
Size: 3 Litre
The good: You get a solid pressure cooker that isn't a giant ugly appliance that takes up counter space. And being able to use the pot as just a regular pot is nice too - I can brown onions in the bottom of the pan before adding my beans. It cooks rice and beans quickly in less than half the time a regular pot would. And it comes with a very nice little handbook of Indian recipes, which is nice if you are feeling adventurous. It seems very solidly made, the pressure valve thing is easy to use once you read the directions, and the lid seals tightly. The bad: This thing is downright terrifying the first time you use it. It makes all sorts of alarming noises and lets off dramatic bursts of steam. I had never seen a stovetop pressure cooker in action and was not expecting it to be so impressive. Now that I know what to expect I'm getting more ok with it, and I think it's solid enough that it's not going to explode or anything, but I still try not to get very close to it while it's cooking. If you are the kind of person who's skittish around loud noises, you might might not like this. Finally one thing to keep in mind is that you can only fill it about a third to a half full - so if you are cooking for more than one or 2 people, you might want to get a bigger size. ... show more

  • You can not go wrong with Hawkins
Size: 3 Litre
I just moved to US, and there so many dishes we cook in the Cooker, which I have been missing. Ah, did I forget to mention the energy efficiency quotient while cooking in Pressure Cooker and it saves time as well. There are many cooker available in the market(indian pressure cooker), but I found this adequate for me and my wife. in the first month itself we get a reduction of $5 in the electric bill.(we cook alot). Not significant in dollar amount but lot from the reduction of power consumption. for any new user, please never put the Cooker on the over without water inside it. Go Green. Do you know this specific model did not change any design for last more than 30 years(as long as I remember). Live to eat . :) ... show more

  • Love it but be careful
Size: 3 Litre
Works great, have used it for cooking various meals. Cooking on too high of a temperature causes the pressure release to open and close regularly. That is steam coming out 360 degrees, if you are cooking around it close you can be steam cleaned easily. This includes manually releasing the pressure after you turn it off. I use a fork to open the valve a little at a time. Your suppose to let it sit for a while to reduce the pressure so it can be opened. The temp is suppose to be 250 F degrees (121 C). I ordered a spare gasket and extra safety Valve for it. It should last a long time. ... show more

  • Almost perfect little cooker
Size: 3 Litre
I purchased this great little pressure cooker after first buying a "Prestige", which did little more than make a huge mess of itself and my stove. I returned it. The Hawkins is the perfect size ( I bought the 3 liter. Anything smaller might be too small) and it's quick to pressurize. These cookers weights don't constantly "rock" like big standard pressure cookers. They pop up and lose steam all at once. That's the only difference in what I've been used to. I really like the Hawkins and would buy again! ... show more

Size: 3 Litre
It is a great product. I make dal quite often and this works as magic. It is my real time saviour especially when guests are coming. Pros - Cooks instantly. - cooks perfectly - takes less time Cons -You can't cook more than 2 cups of dal. - if water is less, the valve gets damaged easily. - it burns food even if little water is less. - expels any tiny bit of excessive dal or rice. As the cooker says, if we stick to the capacity, this is a wonderful purchase. I love cooking in this. ... show more

  • Very Pleased
Size: 3 Litre
I love this little pot. I bought the 3 litre and it's just perfect for one or two. I admit..at first...it was intimidating trying to figure out just how to put the lid with the pot, but that's what directions are for. It fit perfectly and now I'm a pro at it. Pressure cookers are a must for every kitchen. Saves so much energy in cooking time. Fantastic price...with the Amazon discount and able to use my Amazon points, it was almost a give-away. Thanks Amazon. ... show more

  • Problematic from day 1
Size: 3 Litre
Frequent spraying of food all over my kitchen, even when the water/food level was quite low. Found out recently Aluminum pressure cookers are much more reactive/detrimental compared to stainless steel cookers. My cooker gave up on me in 20 months of infrequent use. Safety valve exploded even though the weight wasn't blocked. 1/5 would not recommend. ... show more
