  • have purchased four of these
Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 4)
first purchase was in july 2013 for my granddaughter, big hit! then three more at Christmastime, one for me, one for a girlfriend's daughter, and a fourth for some friend's teenage boys. hits all the way around. i love shaved ice, with or without syrup. hawaiian ice sells replacement blades on their website: i have not found them offered for sale anywhere else, and wanted to, because their shipping is exorbitant, so high they should be embarrassed, but their ice shaver is awesome. january 20 2014 update: i got replacement blades (they are not thin like a razor blade, but a thickish piece of metal that tapers to an edge) to have on hand to use in the future, and extra cups to freeze the discs, which, btw, come three to an order. i ordered three and received nine, so that was a pleasant surprise. :) a comment about the leftover ice that cannot be shaved when the frozen disc of ice is used in the machine, a 3" diameter disc of ice that is about 1/4 inch thick. i have read complaints about this being a wasted chunk of ice, but i keep them, put the remaining piece of the disc in the freezer in a bag, and use them to cool down drinks that are in large cups, or to cool down brewed tea for iced tea. i consider having the leftover discs a bonus! i buy snow cone concentrate from Ralph's SnoBall Supply and make cavity/bacteria killing snow cone syrups with xylitol granules, a sugar alcohol sweetener, so every snow cone is a treatment for my teeth. you can even buy some of the concentrates that are clear, eliminating dye, but there are still the preservatives. they also sell syrups pre-made with cane sugar and charge reasonable prices for them, but i buy the concentrates to be able to use different sweeteners. xylitol is also diabetic friendly, and it doesn't taste fake, just good, and i usually HATE artificial sweeteners. i made some syrups with cane sugar this weekend for my grandkids to take home, or you can use stevia or whatever floats your boat. i am not using the xylitol to save on calories, but it does that as well. each 4-ounce bottle of sample concentrate yields a gallon of syrup. i make my syrups about a cup at a time. they are awesome tasting and making them with xylitol keeps cavity-causing bacteria out of my mouth. so fast, so easy, so cost-effective, so good. :) ... show more

  • Exactly what I was hoping for
Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 4)
I've spent quite some time looking online for a good snow cone machine. I wanted a snow cone machine that just works and provides fine shaved ice quality that actually absorbs the flavors. After looking through the mixed reviews of several options found on Amazon, I decided to just go with this option and hope for the best. Fortunately, this snow cone machine works well and is exactly what I was looking for. Operating the machine is simple - load ice into the machine, put the lid on and firmly press down to get shaved ice. Inside the machine is just a single blade at the bottom with a narrow slit for the shaved ice to fall through. Inside the lid is a metal plate that spins whenever you press the button on top of the lid. This metal plate is supposed to spin the ice inside the machine while you apply pressure down on the ice so that the blade can shave it thus giving you a snow cone. This package comes with 2 ice molds to create ice that looks like hockey pucks, which works the best in getting very fine snow-flake-textured ice. I was also able to use regular ice chunks like the ones you get from a bag of ice, but the hockey pucks work the best. One hockey puck of ice can probably make at least 6 snow cones. However, the moon-shaped ice cubes from my refrigerator do not work well since they just spin around while completely avoiding the blade. The blade is very sharp, but the machine is safe since the lid completely covers the ice-shaving action. The ice is so fine that some of it melts as soon as you pour on the flavored syrups. I recommend compacting the shaved ice with a straw or spoon before adding the syrup. Since the ice is so fine, it is perfect for absorbing the flavored syrup and makes for a tasty and refreshing snow cone. After familiarizing myself with the machine, I was able to fill up a snow cone cup and a little over the top in less than a minute. My favorite flavor by far is grape, but the cherry and blue raspberry flavors are good too. ... show more

  • Pretty good, a little fussy
Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 4)
The shave ice maker makes very fine, thin ice, but you have to find a perfect balance of ice texture and pressure on the top of the machine. It’s a little frustrating to figure out at first, but once you’ve figured it out, it’s great. One of my favorite things about this is there is little to no clean up. Because it’s just water, you don’t really need to worry about washing it out. No weird stains, no dirty parts, and no weird smells. Another up is that the shave ice maker is pretty easy to use once you figure it out. You can also adjust the blade in the machine to make thicker or thinner ice textures. A down side, is that I occasionally have to adjust the metal grippers the catch the ice because they tend to bend a little while in use. And another down side is that it doesn’t produce a whole lot of ice. For the amount of work, there is only really enough for two small cups of ice for every disk. When I bought this, I didn’t realize a couple things, though. First, I didn’t realize that the machine had two parts, when you put ice in, the top part (the lid) sticks out above the machine, so I thought at first that it was broken, but it was not. Second, the area between the shaver and the base is really short, so you can’t fit much between there. I don’t see these as necessarily good or bad things, just things I didn’t see on other reviews that caught me off guard. Finally, the things that come with the machine. The flavors are pretty good and the straws are straws, but the cups are pretty flimsy. I’d recommend buying or finding different cups to use. All in all, it’s not the best ice maker in the world, but for the price, it’s good for small servings or for people who crave shave ice at 2 in the morning like me 😂 ... show more
