  • Nice little pan.
The pan is thick cast iron without any flaws in casting that I can see. The sides are sort of rolled, rather than being straight. Not that this is a strike against the pan. The inside bottom is pebbled to hold oil for frying. This reduces the amount of oil you have to use by holding oil in the low spots. The tiny pits act like miniature woks, giving you a fried taste without having to actually immerse your food into a pool of oil. If you want to use the pan mostly for eggs and pancakes, choose one with a smooth bottom. Better yet, get a small, round iron griddle for those tasks. I love cast iron and use it all the time. This was my first time trying this brand, since most of my cast iron cookware is hand-me-downs or rummage sale rescues. But this was a gift for my son-in-law, who wanted to take his cooking a step farther by trying cast iron. ... show more

  • Must Buy
I buy cast iron skillets for friends, grind/sand them smooth and re-season them. This is by far, the best 10.25 inch skillet I have done. The lines/curves are superior to Lodge and others. Best yet, the Lodge 10.25 lid fits perfectly. Even if you just use it out of the box, the factory seasoning is good. ... show more

  • Cast iron isn’t easy but it’s worth it
Using cast iron skillets is as distinctly southern to me as the corn bread that’s made in them. My mom always had one, my mammaws had ‘em, my friends and their moms and their mammaws had ‘em. Food just tastes better in a cast iron skillet. So, I live in an apartment with an incredibly sensitive smoke alarm and maddeningly no proper kitchen ventilation. The vent above the stove isn’t ventilated outside, from what I can tell it just maybe filters the air and vents back into the room? There’s nothing above the stove but a microwave. I said that to say, I’ve struggled to do the seasoning process on both my wok and a smaller cast iron that I have, due to my inability to really crank it up like I need to. So I appreciate this being pre seasoned, though every bit of directions I’ve consumed on the subject have advised to scrub that layer off and do your own, but heck no I’m not doing that. I used it to make fried potatoes first, and they were delicious, but definitely stuck to the pan (even with enough and then too much oil) and then I made burgers in the pan and they were amazing as well, but also stuck to the pan a little. Everything I’ve read says that over time things will gradually start to cook without sticking to cast iron pans. The images I shared are the pan after I cooked hamburgers (I was out of sliced cheese so I had to add shredded to them) I found that following the instructions they gave for how to remove the stuck on food at the bottom is super effective. I just simmered some water in the pan on the stove while I washed the other dishes, then took a wooden spatula and scraped the base of the pan through the simmering water until I got the stuck on food off of it, and then I gently washed it, immediately dried it, and oiled it and put it in the oven upside down over a foil lined pan. I didn’t do that oven part in the right way (I did it to 450° for very little time, as opposed to 500° for an hour) because the smell (the smell of oil being heated) is too strong and permeated my house, making it tough to breathe even with 3 air purifiers running and all the fans on. But that’s a me problem, not a you problem. The oiling and baking process was immediately effective though and I imagine you’d have great results if you tried that with proper ability to ventilate. All in all I think this is a good entry level cast iron for all the poorly ventilated hotties out there that can’t season their own. It’s very solidly built, easy to handle, big enough to use for standard tasks. It seems to be improving with use, but it isn’t going to be the egg or pancake pan any time soon. ... show more

  • Quality pan
I like using cast iron skillets but I don't like seasoning them. It's so nice to find on that is already done. It's a quality pan. I hate to confess this but I got it to make giant cookies in. It works great!

  • Excellent Cast-Iron
Everyone needs a good cast iron but its one of those purchases that can be a little intimidating for the average person to make. That's because unlike a typical pan a cast iron skillet is one of those purchases where if you get a good one you have to be sure of its make and manufacturing, how to care for it, whether it came pre-seasoned, and etc. Then on top of that price usually plays a big factor because a good size cast-iron skillet usually tends to be on the more expensive side. That's what makes this skillet in particular so surprising. The size of skillet you get for the price is so amazing, while you could get something a little larger if you prefer this size will be perfect for the average person who just wants to make a few skillet friendly meals on occasion. The skillet is a decent weight and takes up a good amount of space so have it someplace where you can take proper care of it, beyond that this is an excellent cast-iron., It comes pre-seasoned but I always just can't help but give my own personal coating. Outside of that this skillet conducts heat well and cooks wonderfully. I made a steak on it and the sizzling was music to my ears. The heat spreads even to the handle in some cases so make sure you're careful and always stay mindful and work with oven mitts or heat-resistant gloves. Be careful when cleaning and make sure your skillet is always well lubricated, outside of that continue to see io ti's care and I think you'll be satisfied for years to come. ... show more
