1. This thing works great! And it's attractive. 2. It isn't loud. You can hear the fan on, but it's not a bothersome level. 3. The trays are metal and easy to clean. 4. The trays move easily in and out of the slots meant to hold them. 5. Comes with a fruit leather tray. 6. Timer goes all the way to 48 hours. I could keep going on, but I don't think anyone's reading these for lists. They want to know how well it works. Well, this is my first dehydrator, so I'm still learning how long to expect different things to take, but mostly I just set it to 48 hours and check it every few hours. Right now, I have marshmallows dehydrating. They mistakenly picked the big ones instead of the minis in my order, but I cut them in half and they are doing great. Almost done. I have made: * Powdered greens so I can hide more nutrition in dishes and smoothies. * Fruit (for smoothies) * Cooked rice ( to make homemade minute rice) * Cooked elbow macaroni for ADHD-friendly meal prep * Kosher dill pickles (Wicked good on popcorn or mixed into mayo for your sandwich) * Cabbage * Zucchini * Mushrooms * Marshmallows That's not everything, but aside from the week I had strep throat, I have been using it constantly. One thing I will suggest is to get a tray liner. This machine wants the 11 x 11 ones (they may be 11.xx, I can't remember), and they're required for me. 1. You can put it on top of greens so they don't bunch up and move when you put the trays in. 2. You can put it beneath stuff that is going to stick (like pickles) so that you can easily remove the dried goods. 3. They wash great. 4. Get more than 9. Ideally, 18 is how many I want for greens -- one to go beneath so they don't stick to the wire racks, and one to lay on top so the greens stay put. The last dehydrator my husband and I had was this sad little plastic round thing. It did as it was intended to do but this Keenstar food dehydrator is miles better than that old thing. This was easy to set up and use. After running it for 30 minutes empty we filled it with a pear, an apple, and some carne asada. My husband did point out that he wished it came with more than 2 silicone sheets for the fruit but other than that it is a great machine that is easy to use and gave good results. We ran the machine over night and all but one piece of meat was ready to go. It is a little on the loud side with its constantly running fan but not too distracting. Also, this is a little larger than a microwave so will take up a bit of counter space or will need some room in a cupboard. I can’t wait to prepare things for our camping trips. My Amazon rating system- Five stars-Great item. May have a minor flaw that does not detract from appearance or function. Four stars-Great item. Flaw or problem more noticeable. Or, price may be high for what it is. Three stars-Good item. Has a flaw/problem that requires more work than should be invested in a product. Two stars-May be a good item with work. This cabinet style dehydrator is very simple to use. It’s a ‘set it and forget it’ appliance. When I unboxed it, I was pleased to find it came with everything I needed for a quick-start such as a couple of silicone tray liners, a tray for liquids, easy to read manual, and separate dehydrating guide. I wish the power cord was about a foot longer, but I was able to find a way to get it close to a power source. The blower fan is a lot stronger than my old cylinder-shaped unit, and I’m loving having heat control. It is also louder than my old unit, but not any louder than a pedestal fan that we run during summer anyway. There is a clicking sound when the heat cycles on and off, but it isn’t loud. If you order pre-cut liners, pay close attention to the size, because I ordered a set that does not cover the entirety of the trays. I only deducted a star because the cord is pretty short (about 2ft) and the control panel is super-sensitive to touch, so I accidentally hit the buttons sometimes. Luckily, it saves my settings so I don’t have to reset it if I accidentally unplug it or hit the power button. I also had a learning curve about door, which closes the easiest if you push on the bottom corner firmly. I wasn’t doing that at first and it kept cracking open. Now that I have some practice with it, I am super happy with it and the value for the price is very good. I would recommend this dehydrator to anyone who wants one. ... show more
