  • Nice vacuum sealer
After using this for about a month I am happy with it. I have sealed dry ingredients, opened the bag to use a portion and have been able to reseal after each use. I made apple pie filling in advance for Thanksgiving and sealed that using the moist setting. That worked well & I didn't have any liquid inside the sealer. I'm having a learning curve using the pulse method. I ordered a package of variety sized bags. As a personal preference I like those better than cutting the roll to size. Haven't tried this out with sous vide yet, but hope to soon. It's easy to use & has enough features for me. ... show more

  • Good Suction But Sloooow to Seal
Very good suction power, and sucks faster than my old unit. But...sealing takes a l-o-n-g time. Maybe 15 seconds? Seals very reliably though.

  • Finally found suction hose attachment
The suction hose attachment was in the bottom of the Anova box, kind of stuck to the side. I found it when I decided to flatten the box for putting into our recycle bin.

  • So far I love it
I could not wait to use it. I wanted to be able to vacuum bags and I needed the pulse button on the machine. I like it so far.

  • So far so good
Repackaged some ground beef and shrimp in manageable portions. Also marinated some short ribs with korean kalbi sauce. Used the vacuum and seal and the pulse vacuum/seal for the short ribs. I like what I see.

  • Better than ziploc bags, but the enclosed directions are worthless
I was OK using ziploc bags for sous vide until one of the bags failed and I ruined a expensive piece of prime beef. So I figured I use the sous vide often enough to warrant buying a vacuum sealer. I waffled between this and the lower cost model, and ultimately chose this due to the onboard bag storage and sealing/cutting function as well as some of the other additional options vs the base model. The vacuum machine is sleek and looks nice. It's a little bigger than expected, but relatively easy to hide in the pantry when not in use and won't take up too much real estate in there. The on-board cord storage is nice and being able to keep the roll of customizable bags within the unit means one less thing I have to look for when I need to use this. The main downside is that this machine isn't really all that intuitive for the first time user. I've never used a vacuum sealer before and given how easy and intuitive the Anova sous vide was, I erroneously assumed that this would be the same. Well, how wrong I was. The included directions are terrible, and look like they were written by a dropout from the Ikea instruction manual writing school: No words, overly simplified pictures, and no explanation. It's really disappointing to turn to the enclosed instruction manual for help only to get even more confused and frustrated. Sadly no readily available videos on YouTube either. So with some trial and error and wasting a good amount of vacuum bags, I sort of figured out how to use this machine and vacuum seal food. The good news is that the vacuum sealer works well, the bag stays sealed shut, and my steaks all turned out well. It's also much easier to use this than ziploc bags and I have complete confidence that the vacuum sealed bags won't leak. I've used this a dozen times now and haven't had a bag failure yet. Being able to customize the size of the bag for my needs is great. Once I figured out how to use the thing, it's been great. Just the initial first impression was poor. Anyway, it's a little pricy, but the quality of the bags are nice, the seal works, and the convenience and reliability of the machine has been great. I just wish there were clearer instructions to make the initial attempt more user friendly. The ability to custom control the amount of vacuum has been more helpful that I thought. In addition to getting food ready for the sous vide bath, I've also been using this for long term storage of coffee beans I buy in bulk, meats for the freezer, marinating food, and just about everything else you can think of that would benefit from airless storage. After I completed the included roll, I've also stayed with using the Anova brand rolls of bags just to keep everything "in the family". FYI, the bags are pretty good but have their quirks. Happy cooking! ... show more

  • Decent sealer, some design issues
This is a good external vacuum sealer. It works well with the several kinds of of bag rolls I’ve tried (standard, easy open, pleated, from a couple different brands). The extra wide sealing bar is great, especially if there’s a little liquid in there, or if the bag is a little bit creased. I also like that it’s flat and low to the counter, and that the lock seals with a manual lever arm and sealing starts with a button instead of needing to perform hand & finger gymnastics. This isn’t to say it’s perfect. I have some gripes about the design. First, the position of the bag cutter, behind the vacuum seal, makes it difficult to judge how long you need to cut the roll. On my old machine, the cutter was at the front, making this much easier (1st image). Judging length is possible to work around. One that isn’t is the position of the seal bar, which is outside the vacuum gasket. My old sealer (and others from that brand) had it inside instead, placing it close to the vacuum port. This means there’s a large amount of unavoidable bag waste — at least an inch. This isn’t such a big deal for single use bags, but I often want to open a bag, remove some of the contents, then reseal it. That means I have to add a large amount of extra at the beginning to account for what will be lost every time (2nd image). Between these first two issues, one gets the impression the manufacturer is trying to sell more bag rolls! Last is a more minor annoyance, but I have not been able to figure out how to use the accessory port. My old machine had an adapter on its accessory hose that let it attach to valved zipper bags, plastic storage containers, etc. This machine comes with the hose, but I haven’t seen anything it can connect to. It’s also a little annoying that there’s no built in storage for the hose, but that hasn’t been such a big deal since I can’t use it! Overall, this is pretty good at the price point where I bought it. I’m not sure I’d want to pay full MSRP though. ... show more
