It wasn't too hard to put together, although there seemed to be mistakes in the directions. Once it's put together is easy to use. I think warming the oil up, for 1-2 minutes before adding popcorn is advisable if using coconut oil. It's great to make popcorn for watching movies at home. Clean-up is not difficult but could be made easier. The pan that holds the popcorn and oil is a little difficult to get to for cleanup, although it is removable. Makes great, fluffy popcorn using supermarket kernels! It isn’t super easy to clean. This depends on your definition of clean, clearly. I want zero grease residue or buildup in crevices. I choose to use it only for special occasions because of the cleaning process.

Works great and easy to keep clean. I use this daily for a quick snack and even make multiple batches quickly for movie nights. Everyone loves the fresh buttery popped popcorn this little machine makes. I love the compact size of it so it fits nicely on the kitchen counter without taking up a lot of space like our other popcorn machine we have for when we need to make large batches for parties. This little machine makes popcorn just as good as our large machine and at a fraction of the price. The media could not be loaded. This popcorn maker has clear instructions and is easy to set up. It even comes with a plastic container that fits perfectly inside the machine to catch the popcorn as it drops. It is small enough to fit on an open shelf in our livingroom. It has an art deco design style that gives it vintage flare but doesn't compete with other looks. It makes perfect single serving portions that taste just like movie theater popcorn. It heats up quickly and makes the popcorn in just a couple of minutes. You can make enough popcorn for the entire family in less than 10 minutes. All my nieces and nephews love to watch as it pops the corn. The clean up isn't too difficult but the parts cannot be submerged in water so it cannot be soaked or put in the dishwasher. It can be a little tricky to get all the cooked oil off of the inside of the popping pan but as long as you clean it after each movie night it shouldn't be a problem. It has definitely added a little extra magic to family movie nights. Now we have no reason to pay to go to the movies since we can just stream something on our projector and enjoy from the comfort of our couch complete with movie theater popcorn. ... show more

I purchased this machine and truly enjoyed it. I read A LOT of reviews on different machines and opted for this one because of its positive reviews. After about 10 uses, I found a screw in my popcorn. As I inspected, I discovered it came from the roof of the machine. I thought I could screw it back in, but it wouldn't "catch" on anything. I also noticed another screw coming out. Sadly, I was just barely outside of my 30 day purchase window from Amazon. I have contacted the company and will update my review based on their response. It could be that I got a lemon, or it could be an issue with overall quality. I should say that the machine still works, though who knows what came loose and how being loose will affect its functionality in the long run. Hopefully the company will replace the machine as the warranty states. Before the issue, I would have given the machine 5 stars. As far as functionality, it worked great, and I was generally pleased with it. For the price I paid, I wasn't expecting a high quality metal machine, and I didn't get one. The machine is plastic all around, and the kettle seems nicely constructed (which is the part that you really need to be well-made for a lasting machine). The amount of popcorn it produces is perfect for my wife and me, though you'd probably want to make several batches for more than 2 people. My recommendation would be to use coconut oil and popcorn salt - tastes very similar to theater popcorn! Delicious! **UPDATE** The company got back with me in a reasonable amount of time (later in the day) and emailed directions on how to take the lid of the machine off without damaging anything. What I found when I took it off was that one of the screws was completely missing (there are supposed to be 4 screws holding in the motor). The missing screw did not have a spare nut in the housing, so my guess is simply poor craftsmanship. I contacted the company again requesting that an extra screw and nut be sent. **2ND UPDATE** The "fix" Great Northern sent was helpful. Basically you use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the front logo of the machine (do this at the base of the logo piece so as not to damage it). Then remove two screws that are revealed, and finally use the flathead screwdriver to pry off the lid (again, be careful). Once inside, you can clearly see how the screws hold down the motor. GN sent me replacement screws upon my request because one was missing. I haven't had a chance to go to a hardware store to buy a lock washer to keep the nut from coming loose - it seems like this could be a problem in the future. I've probably used the machine 3 dozen plus times. The popcorn still tastes awesome and the machine runs pretty well! I clean the kettle every 3-4 poppings as suggested, and it hasn't had any problems beyond what I've shared here. I still only give it 3 stars due to the quality issue I mentioned. ... show more
