This pan surprised me as it was on sale so I was worried it would be a case of beware anything that looks to good to be true, as it almost always is. This pan was a pleasant surprise as it is as nice as any cast iron I've had, and I've had several as my family would camp for a living if we could! It comes pre seasoned, long handled so you can cook over a campfire and be able to pull it out of the fire without burning your hands. I've cooked chicken, fried potatoes, steak and upside down cake all over a campfire and it's holding its own! Buy this , you're going to be surprised! Nice pan! Most lf what I have read about cast iron cookware is that Lodge is very highly regarded, maybe even the best. With the current discount, this skillet is 5 times the cost of the same size Lodge cast iron skillet. Yes, this is very smooth on the inside, and the outside is not as rough as most cast iron skillets. Even though it is a very smooth surface inside, you still want to treat it with a little oil after cleaning. It will keep it more non-stick, or eventually get it there. They say it is virtually rust-proof and that you can put it in the dishwasher. Do it if you want, but I clean it by hand. No sense exposing it to the potential of rust (which increases if it is submerged in water for an extended period of time. This does a good job of frying and cooking and heat distribution is very even. It does not come with a lid, but I have a lid from a set of stainless steel pans that is almost a perfect fit for this. I thought the handle would be too short, but it works out that it is an excellent length for controlling the pan and keeping it more manageable. The leather cover for the handle is wonderful, and almost mandatory. It is not a cheap accessory, very good quality. I cooked up a couple hamburger patties on this without adding an oil or anything other than the meat. I first warmed it up some on medium heat. Due to the great heat retention you don't need to use much more than medium heat. They cooked up fine with just a minor bit of sticking. Cleanup was relatively easy. I did not use the scraper, but did use the scratch or scouring 'pad' that was included. It provided all the help I needed to get the skillet clean. I checked on the internet about the hard nitriding that is done to this pan. Not sure if what I found is absolutely correct for this skillet, but it is the process of infusing nitrogen into metal. This is more commonly done with steel, not cast iron. Regardless of what is done to this metal, it is lighter, smoother, and does an excellent job. All for a drastic price increase. ... show more

Cooks good and even. Like any other cast iron pan. I still like cooking with my ceramic cast iron, but this one has it's uses. The included leather holder is a nice touch as I had to buy the lodge rubber handle separately. Unfortunately I let that one rust and wasn't sure if it was fixable.
