  • A lovsly pan! Wow!
Color: Antique White
I needed a new "nonstick" pan, as mine was scratched and pitted. I saw this 10.25" enameled cast iron pan at a great price, and ordered immediately! Wow! I have used cast iron occasionally, and am quite familiar with its attributes and need for seasoning/adding oil before cooking. I have turned to it more and more lately, as I am sooooo tired of spending money for a nonstick surfaced pan, only to have to toss it out after a few months of normal, everyday use--and I AM careful! This pan is beautiful! It heads quickly and evenly on my electric stove. The enameled surface is easy to use, and very nonstick; I always use at least a few drops of oil, and get the pan hot before adding food--no problems with sticking. What I LOVE about this pan is I can get it HOT and not worry about ruining it or having toxic gases in the house. It can go into the oven, too. I always use a handle cover so I never have to worry about inadvertent burns. The handle is comfortable and easy to hold, and supports the weight of hte pan easily. The pan itself is very easy to clean--so far, almost everything wipes off and a quick light wash is all that is required. I am delighted to have this pan, and delighted that I will have it for a long time. Cast iron lasts forever! Hubby and I both recommend thsi pan without hesitation. It would also make a fabulous gift, and the box it arrived in is more than suitable for gifting. ... show more

  • Great hybrid of cast iron and enamel nonstick
Color: Antique White
For reference, I used the "COOKLIFE 10.25 inch lightweight enamed cast iron frying pan" on a Samsung induction hob on the largest burner set to 4 (out of 9) for both preheating the pan and cooking. I did not add any oil or butter during the process, though I did keep the bacon grease in the pan when I cooked the eggs. Stove types--even makes and models--vary so your optimal settings may vary. After washing off the pan, I placed four strips of bacon in the pan. I didn't really expect them to fit in a 10" skillet and I was mostly correct. One or two pieces can be made to work but, ideally, you'd want to cut the bacon in half so as to not allow it to ride up the sides and have the ends cooked less than the center. However, the bacon did cook well on both sides. It did take a bit of effort to turn the bacon over, though, as there was some sticking. There was no tearing or leftover bacon stuck to the pan afterwards, but it did require more effort than on a nonstick pan. Removal of the bacon from the pan was equally easy. Using the leftover bacon fat, I cooked an egg. It required a little extra effort to loosen it from the pan in order to get it to slide out onto the plate, but I was able to do so without breaking the yolk or tearing the whites. Honestly, I would normally cook it in some butter but I wanted to try the most extreme situation first as I'm sure the butter would only be an improvement. The pan, after finishing, looked like the second-to-last picture. Some egg was stuck to the pan--more than on a truly nonstick pan, but this is the nature of cast iron, even when enameled in this way. During the cleanup, this remainder egg came off easily with hot water, as did everything else. The only additional tool I used to clean it was a nylon dish cloth and the last picture is the final result. Finally, the handle remained cool to the touch during the entire process and I never once felt it get warm. The handle is also closed off on the end, something missing from many other pans, so there are no sharp corners or edges or places for food to get stuck in the handle itself. The pan has a nonstick ceramic coating inside (in contrast to the outside, this coating is black) and it is rough to the touch (again, normal for this type). While the nonstick claim is valid, I would still recommend adding a small bit of fat (oil/butter). This type of pan does not require the extra care for seasoning and cleaning as a bare cast iron skillet does, but it will still behave more like cast iron than a Teflon-coated aluminum model. I really like the ability to use a cast iron skillet in a "grab it and go" manner without having to worry about the after-cooking cleanup or re-seasoning. I'll continue to use cast iron and carbon steel pans, however, but having this in the arsenal will help for those special dishes that don't always come out great in cast iron (like acidic sauces). This is currently priced as a premium pan at $90 which is a bit steep. There are certainly models costing much more, but a standard cast iron skillet this size would come in around half the price so consider this. For the cost alone I'm deducting a star. All told this is a great pan and, those in the market for a good, enameled cast iron pan really can't go wrong, assuming the cost doesn't deter you. ... show more

  • Nice Heavy-Duty Pan
Color: Antique White
I like this pan all the way around. It is definitely heavy-duty. It has a much better feel than today’s aluminum pans. It feels solid and strong. Nobody is going to have a problem with the construction. It should last a very long time. The size is good, and it looks substantive. The bottom is flat, so the pan is totally stable. The handle is comfortable and easy to hold for control. The non-stick finish works, and I am glad that it is toxin free. Lately, there has been at lot of news about the finishes in typical non-stick cookware. We will have to see how long the non-stick surface lasts. The antique white finish on the outside fits my kitchen for a good look. ... show more

  • A bit over priced and not very non-stick
Color: Antique White
My first issue with this pan is that the ad cites "non-stick" as being a special feature. This isn't what I would call a non-stick pan. Cast iron can be made to be non-stick IF properly seasoned, but neither the ad nor the instructions mentions anything about seasoning this pan to make it non-stick. And, the pan itself doesn't look or feel like it's regular cast iron. I do have several old school cast iron pans that I season, and this just feels different. I haven't tries seasoning it but after using it a couple of times and finding that it really wasn't non-stick. The outside of the pan is enameled, but not the inside, and it was a little difficult to clean. Again, that could be due to it needing to be seasoned. I'll find out. It does have a nice weight to it although not as heavy as other cast iron skillets of this size, and the handle is sturdy, and it does retain heat pretty well like I would expect with cast iron. The price point on this seems a little high for what it is. It is a nice pan, and it has a lifetime guarantee, which is nice, so it should last. The outer enamel seems sturdy as well. I'm just not sure it's worth the price. ... show more
