Just amazing! I bake thick crust, whole wheat, sourdough bread and slicing it with a knife is almost enough to make me stop baking every time I turn out a few loaves. We searched for a slicing alternative and kept seeing this unit. Seemed a bit pricey! We watched an independent demo video and the baker insisted that WE NEED THIS BREAD CUTTER! We rolled the dice! Our first four loaves sliced easily, quickly and perfectly. We learned to let the bread sit for quite awhile are baking before slicing... it makes a big difference. In fact we now slice it 12 hours or so after baking. It's an amazing unit that is a marvel of precision design and engineering. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! It did try to slide around the table top a bit. We added a touch of water to the rubber grips and that did the trick. And don't let that stop you... I came up with any number of easy ways to stop the slide... DEFINITELY not a deal breaker. It's very easy to overcome that challenge. We couldn't be happier with this unit. It's one of our best buys ever on amazon. Superb in every way! Wish I could rate it a 10! ... show more

I had looked and looked for a manual bread slicer all over the internet many years ago and came up with nothing. They had vanished from the marketplace and all you could get was electric ones. We had one of these when I was growing up in Germany, and I see NO point in needing electricity to slice bread, about as stupid of an idea as an electric can opener (unless one has handicapped hands). After struggling to cut homemade sourdough bread with my bread knife, I looked again, and was all excited to find this! Yes, I think it is way overpriced, so this was a splurge. The suction is only so-so on my countertops, but the blade is sharp and it cuts like butter, the guide (this is why I got the more expensive model, quality looks better and it has the bread slice guide) keeps it out of the way of the crank handle, so you get beautiful, even slices in seconds. ... show more

I regularly make sourdough bread and had difficulty cutting it because it is so crusty. Decided to spend the money on this. It works beautifully but I am left handed. It is set up for a right hander and cannot be modified. Pretty disappointed about that. Never thought of a bread slicer as left or right handed. Will figure a way to adapt. Over the last year I have spent loads of money (over $200)on bread knives that can’t handle slicing homemade Sourdough loaves. I hesitated to buy this slicer because of the price point. Never again will I do that! This slicer is a dream come true! Easy to use, comes ready out of the box, very well made and slices through Sourdough crust like butter! The only negative is that it does not stay suctioned to the counter, but that didn’t stop me. If you can see in the picture I just pushed it up against my wooden cutting board that is pushed up to the wall and problem solved. I highly recommend this bread slicer. I got the silver one, which is a little more expensive but has the guard to keep the bread away from the handle. I can't believe how fast it came, even though I was told it would be at least a week; it was three days. It's a Joy to use. No more saw the bread, crushing it, turning it sideways to cut with a knife. The bottom of my Sourdough bread gets tough and this cut through it like butter. We gifted this to my sister who makes sourdough loaves weekly for friends and family. She loves it and says it works great. The wood piece did get discolored when water was left on it overnight she said but stills works, just has water stains on it. So dry off after washing immediately. The media could not be loaded. Package arrived undamaged and everything looked in order. When we opened the well packaged box a screw-like disc was loose in the package and the blade was coming off. After looking closer it appeared the little disc was holding a screw to keep the blade attached, except it was broken off with one piece left on the main part of the slicer and the remainder in the disc. Chrome looking material appears to be plastic coated with chrome. Due to the product being fully assembled during delivery and weak material the product will most likely be broken again if replaced. We will ask for refund and continue using a simple bread knife 10% of the price. ... show more
