I've only had this for a couple weeks, but it seems really, really nice. Great all purpose asian style cleaver...very nice quality for the money. Not for breaking bones, etc, but really good for everything else. Cutting vegetables, meat, etc...all great and does not stick. I have a Wusthof asian chef's knife that was twice as expensive and very nice, but it sticks when chopping vegetables, especially cabbage, while this does not. Great balance and weight. I would suggest coating the handle with some Boos Block board cream after each use... while beautiful out of the box, the sycamore handle seems very absorbent. This knife is actually pretty nice. Very sharp out of the box. At this price I'd start to expect attention to detail and craftsmanship. This one delivers. The transition from wood to steel is very smooth, no rough edges or gaps. Size is nicely balanced. Fairly thin blade cuts well and functional for most prep work. Bought the 5 knife set 2 years ago. I really like these knives. They seem to hold their edge really well. The first thing I did when received was put a coat of stain (to match our kitchen cabinets) and 3 layers of polyurethane on the wooden handles. Also, immediately made a house rule that they are hand wash ONLY under threat of death (no dishwasher). I will say that the Damascus pattern is barely visible on my knives unlike in the sales photos.
