  • The color is fun

  • Subtle Dark Purple - Updated
Color: 3VR Deep Velvet Violet Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
If you are looking for bright, Grape Kool-Aid purple, this color is not right for you. In my experience, there are only two ways to achieve that color: Manic Panic brand hair color (which is semi-permanent) over bleached hair, or to go to a salon. VS's Deep Velvet Violet is more of a dark, subtle purple. Previous reviewers who have said the color looks different in different types of light are correct! In the natural light coming into my house, it is a darker purple with a tiny bit of blue to it; under the overhead light in my kitchen, it appears to be a dark, purple-ish burgundy; outside under direct sunlight, it appears to be more of a deep purple-fuchsia. And it is devilishly difficult to photograph! It is, hands-down, the weirdest hair dye I've ever used on my hair, but I am quite happy with it! Before I used this color, my natural color was a medium ash brown, and there was a little warm brown dye down toward the tips. This seems to have covered all of it evenly, more or less. (I am told that my scalp and roots look a little pink in direct sunlight.) Also, there is no sign of any of my pesky gray hairs. My hair actually feels softer after coloring than it did before, but I suspect that that has something to do with the thick conditioner that comes with the dye. (Why don't they sell that stuff by itself? The conditioner that comes with hair dye is always better than what they sell in stores!) I am writing this on the day after I colored, so I cannot speak as to how quickly this fades, but I will try to update this review as time passes. The coloring process was easy - just like every other hair dye I've used. One thing you should take note of, however, is the fact that, while you are applying this dye, it will turn bright pink. Don't panic! This is not indicative of the end result! As I mentioned before, it has been very difficult to photograph this color so that it appears true to the eye. The first two pictures were taken before I dyed my hair, the third was taken in the natural light in my house, the fourth was in direct sunlight outside, and the fifth was taken in the shade outside. The last picture was taken from the internet - the closest photo I could find to how my new hair color appears to my eye. *Update 8/12/17: I am dropping my review from five stars to two, due to how quickly this color fades, and the strange color that it fades to. (Trust me when I say that fuchsia is not a good look for me!) It only took three or four washes for this color to fade substantially, even with color-protecting shampoo and conditioner, and the color that was left over was a sickening shade of burgundy-fuchsia. In order to keep the initial color result, I would have had to dye my hair every two to three weeks, which I cannot afford, and it would probably fry my hair. Sorry, Vidal Sassoon, but I am *not* impressed. ... show more

  • Cant beat this look, color, shine, and everything about this color. My fave.
Color: 6RR Runway Red Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
My absolute fave color and hair dye..its way too over priced on here vs what it cost in any stores but cant find a prettier, longer lasting red anywhere near as good as this one. I highly recommend item just would recommend u buy it elsewhere so price is fair. Is metallic but I've had no issue dying over it with another color of dye ever. Nor have I had to make sure my hair color was blonde before applying. It covered over both dark and medium browns and was still beautifully bright red. ... show more

  • Good, but not the best!
Color: 3VR Deep Velvet Violet Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
Okay, I'm a retired Cosmetologist, and a repeat offender of the hair dye. I've been dying for over 15 years now and just about every color. In any case possible, and especially un-natural colors, you should go to a licensed Cosmetologist for the best results. Now if you want to know what's the best plum around the block, I'm here to give you my honest opinion. This hair dye is better than Feria. Don't ever use Feria. The color will fade quicker than your smile, and the damage it will do to your hair will be mortifying. I will take this hair dye any day over Feria's plum. The nice part about this one too, is that it catches in the light really nicely, and when not in the light it just looks like a deep auburn color. You won't be the person walking around with bright purple hair, you will be the person walking around with a nice plum tint to your hair. Trust me, it's a plus. There is one hair dye though, that exceeds this hair dye. If you like this plum, you need to go to the step up on Vidal Sassoons collection and get the $12 box that has a bowl you can mix it in and everything. It has a serum, to help even out the color on your roots and ends (I'm a blonde, and this is a big thing for me, my roots are always lighter than my ends unless I use the $12 box), your hair dye will spread further, and your hair will not be as damaged. There are a few additional features included in the upgraded box, and with the same color, that make it worth the extra $3-4, I PROMISE. And I have no problem transitioning between this one and the upgraded version back and forth as I am financially able-bodied at that time, so if you don't like one you can go back to the other. But that's about it, hope it helps! ... show more

  • Lech attraction factor of 8.5 out of 10
Color: 6RR Runway Red Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
My wife is not naturally a redhead and if she ever sees this post I might not live to regret saying that. But she was never THIS red before. This is the second time that she has used this color and WOW. First let me say that she bought the first box at the store and then was not able to find it anywhere when it came time to reapply. So she ordered from here, and the only reason it's getting 4 instead of 5 stars is the price. But as to application, color and overall look it would have been a 5. She looks amazing in it. And that is where things go off the rails. My wife is a sweet and wonderful woman who always has a natural smile. Add to that the fact that she her body type is top heavy zoftig and covered in tattoos and you get a natural weirdo magnet. And now she has stunning long red hair and it's like a beacon for them. I see normal guys taking an extra glance all the time and who can blame them but there is something about this hair color that makes the creepy guys come crawling out from under a rock. I don't know what they think the red hair means to them but I have seen this behavior with my own two eyes. I'm not saying don't buy it but I would also suggest maybe a taser or at least some pepper spreay. ... show more
