My white/gray hair started when I was around 20, now at 34 I have a shimmering of white strands in the sea of my mostly black mane. Started using this staining conditioner for a pop of color. The color lightens over time but remains on my white/gray hairs (except for the roots). Main assumptions my roots don't keep the color as well is 1) even gently shampooing will remove the stain over multiple washes, 2) perhaps my hair grows faster than I realize, or 3) a bit of both 1 & 2. Regardless of the roots issue [pretty sure would be a problem with permanent color too], I will continue to purchase this staining conditioner. I have tried pinks, purple, and blue. This is a VERY difficult color to find in semi-permanent dyes. Usually they're too weak, they look faded and dull and washed-out from the start. But this one is brilliant! My hair is type 1 and coarse, so I always leave dye on for at least an hour before rinsing it out (sometimes 90 minutes) but a strand test is good if your hair is finer or more porous (type 5 for instance) because dye takes much less time then. Word to the wise, do not wash your hair with Head and Shoulders shampoo prior to using this product, as it turned my gray and highlighted hair a vivid blue. I bought the dark brown shade, not one of the vivid shades. It doesn’t look bad, I just did not expect that result. Now when I wash my hair it looks like a Smurf was murdered in the shower… eek! It did cover my washed out copper-looking pieces very well. I followed the directions and left it on for one hour. Best of luck. It does leave your hair soft and conditioned-feeling. Heres a quick backstory: I have almost two feet of completely virgin, frizzy, brown hair. You heard that right. Get a ruler on that, because it's LONG. Anyway, this stuff is amazing. At first, I thought "hey, this is a bit small". It was about the size of my palm. Opening it up, it smelled pretty nice, and was a deep blue. So, I slathered the entire container on (because yk, LONG HAIR). I then double capped my head and set it for two hours. You WILL turn into a smurf if you use the blue one, because I did. I had to shampoo twice and wash for a good 10 minutes to make myself look alive again. But once it dried? GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! My hair has really nice blue tones now, but its mainly a blue-silver-black. It's also. So. Soft. I've never had a product make my hair so soft, shiny, and manageable. 10/10 I'm gonna use this again. I have been dying my hair with semi-permanent vivids for a long time. Close to 16 years. I've used lots of brands and sometimes I like to change it up. This one looked like it was a great purple so I wanted to give it a shot. I used gloves and did all the things you're supposed to do before coloring your hair at home. Like I said I've been doing this for a while. I have never experienced one bleed this much ever. The staining on my shower is more than I've ever seen. The picture was after cleaning it twice. The picture of my purple hand is from me putting my hair in a ponytail today. Just touching my hair, that is dry, transfers color. I went to bed with dry hair last night and woke up with my neck completely purple. Thank God I have black sheets! I'm having to be careful to not get my hair on anything like my sofa or on my t-shirt. In my 16 years of doing my hair I have never experienced something this bad. It's so bad that it actually thinking about using a clarifying shampoo tonight just to try and get the bleeding to stop! I'm super bummed because the purple is amazing. It's a great color. But man, I am completely regretting using this and I am not sure what I'm going to do to keep myself from looking purple for at least a week. To top it off anywhere at rinsed on my body last night with stained purple and I had to scrub pretty hard to get it off. And then I started getting an allergic reaction to anywhere that it touched. I really do not recommend this product unless you are totally okay with your body and all your things being the color of Barney. ... show more

LOVE the color, it's a little darker than the red I usually use (Splat Midnight Ruby) but that's a positive. The problem I had was when I was rinsing it out, I could not get my wide tooth comb through my hair, it was so knotted. I combed thoroughly before and during application. I thought that with it being a conditioner it would be easy to comb through in the shower, but it was not. I ended up pulling hair out trying to comb it. I had to use my regular curl conditioner on top of it to even get a comb through my hair. Even now, the next day it still feels dry. I followed the directions, so I don't know what gives. I'm definitely loving the color, but I think I will go back to my old standby in the future. ... show more
