I’ve been loyal to Arctic Fox for like a decade. I liked the brand better than Pulp Riot, which my stylist uses in the salon, so I always brought AF to my appointments and used it at home for touch-ups in between. For whatever reason, I felt pulled to branch out and try Lunar Tides recently. The reviews had me sold and I loved the shade range, so I figured, what’s the harm? I bought Cranbaby for most of my head, and Petal Pink for my money piece, and took them along with me to my appointment at the salon. My stylist had never used this brand before either, so she made sure to really saturate my hair in small sections to make sure we got even coverage. And my oh my, did it turn out like a dream. Cranbaby covered my faded purple flawlessly, but the best part of the whole experience has been how long-lasting it is for a red. Stylists and people with general knowledge of hair color know that reds are the hardest color to maintain. I fully expected this shade to fade to a pinky color before the one month mark, but it didn’t happen. I’m pleasantly surprised that I’ve finally found a red that is relatively low maintenance. I usually touch up my color at home every 4 weeks, but I went 6 weeks before I did it this time, and it wasn’t really out of necessity. Most of the color held up, it really only faded at the crown of my head where my shampoo is doing the most work. Although the floral scent of this brand isn’t as nice to me as the grape candy scent of Arctic Fox, that’s just a minor little detail that won’t stop me from repurchasing from this brand again and again. If the red holds up this nicely, I imagine the other shades will outperform AF as well. Petal Pink faded somewhat quickly, as is the nature of pastels and their lack of pigmentation, but with Cranbaby I don’t even feel the need to wash my hair in cold water to maintain my color, and that speaks volumes on the pigmentation and longevity Lunar Tides is giving me with this lovely red.     • No blue shower! How'd they do that?

I'm not sure how long this will last, because I didn't bleach my hair. I just took advantage of the new white sections of my hair. I'll update once I see how long it lasts. The color went on easily just smearing it on with gloved fingers, and I didn't need much of it for these small sections. The shocker was that when I rinsed it, there was no blue! It looked and felt like I was rinsing out conditioner! My shower floor didn't turn blue. What i got on my face came off pretty easily compared to other products like manic panic or arctic fox used to. It smells pleasant, but doesn't have that grape scent I'd come to expect ... show more

It's bloody hard to find a good green, it's always either too blue, too bright, or just completely lacks richness. I LOVE this dye. It's a glorious deeeeeeep emerald, a wrap yourself in a widow robe and drink fancy gin kind of shade. I can't go outside without at least one person running over to say how much they love the color. One warning, make sure to rinse it out in a sink or something, or have a friend help. I spent a day or two looking either jaundiced or like I'm healing from a crazy beat down. ... show more

    • Does anyone know of a dupe?

I absolutely LOVE how my hair turned out after using this, however, I believe I'm allergic to a product in this brand. I've wanted my hair green for a long time and haven't found a brand that looks good on my hair. I absolutely love how this product looks, so if anyone knows of a different brand that looks similar, please let me know! I used it for the first time on Tuesday (writing this the next Sunday) and I completely broke out into hives after using, and they finally cleared up about 2 days after going to the doctor. I will recommend this to people more often than not, however for myself, I need to find a different brand. I would rate this 5 stars if I hadn't broken out in hives for days, which is NOT the manufacturers fault in the slightest. The color is super vibrant and bright in the sun. In the dark it’s almost as if I didn’t dye my hair at all. It left my hair super soft, but because I bleached my hair before coloring it, it’s super dry. Going to use a deep conditioner once a week to bring back my bouncing curls. It does bleed after each wash and will stain anything it comes into contact with. My white toes or stained teal and my hands are usually green for a few days after washing. Don’t wear anything white while drying your hair, recipe for disaster. My bathtub was stained as well. Using a magic eraser and bleach seemed to do the trick. Love the color overall.
