despite the thinness of my hair, one kit was not enough for my entire head + roots (two wasn't either LOL but all of my visible root was covered so i don't mind). this stuff is intense and not intense all at the same time - any parts that came in contact with my scalp or skin just itched mildly, and while the bleach started lightening my hair within minutes, my hair still felt quite soft even before coloring it and i've experienced zero bleach-induced breakage to my knowledge. my hair loss is the same as it was before bleaching. i will say i have been VERY gentle with my hair since bleaching it; i don't tug on knots to get them out or tie it up in a tight bun. i mean i didn't do those things before either, but now i'm definitely even more careful. i had someone else apply the product to my hair in rough sections, and some parts came out darker/more orangey than others. i dont think that's the fault of the product, i believe it's user error - i also want to note that i initially wasnt able to get all the developer out of the bottle before we started bleaching, and i ended up adding the last bits after most of my hair had already been bleached and it definitely made a BIG difference in how my hair processed. do ensure that you mix both products thoroughly for best results. my hair lightened much more quickly with the 2nd kit as i was very careful not to leave anything unmixed. i think 40 vol was a bit strong for my hair and i'll probably go for 30 vol next time. 40 just processed SO quickly on me - not sure if that's just the nature of the product or if the fineness of my hair also played some part in that. oh also! for the first round of bleach it took about an hour to cover 3/4ths of my head. i let it process another 40 minutes. after another few days the next kit came in, we finished bleaching the last 4th and i let that sit for 15 minutes, then we added a bit more bleach to the brassier parts of my hair that had been bleached in the days prior, let that sit for 10 minutes, then finally i did my roots and let that process for a final 15ish. if i were to do it over again on my virgin hair i'd probably get two kits, cover my mids and ends, let them process for 40 minutes, then do roots for another 10-15. bleach is very strong but i think if your hair is healthy and well cared for, and it's your first time bleaching it, 40-50 minutes isn't going to do as much damage as you might expect. my hair is absolutely dry and requires different care now than it did before, but that is also to be expected - bleach is chemical damage after all. but i don't think you should worry about all your hair falling out if it doesn't have any damage to begin with, i really think you're safe waiting just long enough for it to reach the level you're after before washing it out. i hope my review was helpful! my hair isn't perfect but i am really satisfied given that it was a first attempt, and i think this product was really user-friendly and easy to use. good luck giving it a try! ... show more

    • First time hair bleacher - great experience!

First time hair bleacher! My hair is medium length (a few inches below my collar bone) and was dyed a mix of dark brown and blue. Blue is very easy to remove, but dark brown is not. I wanted to change my hair back to its original color (strawberry blonde) so obviously needed to bleach it. I watched Brad Mondo's youtube video that broke down the very basics of hair bleaching and coloring (which does NOT replace a stylist's professional experience and years of studying color theory) so I could get an idea of what to do and what not to do so I don't completely ruin my hair. I chose this product because it is a complete kit including 30 volume developer, gloves, cap to lock in that heat, and the mixing bowl and brush. I chose to buy 4 packs because I assumed it would take 2 boxes to liberally apply to my full head of thicker hair for one application and also decided I should buy enough for 2 applications (common for dark brown hair dye). It was the perfect amount. At a salon this amount of bleaching would be like $250-400 and 3-4 hours in a chair on top of the time and money it would take to dye your hair afterward. With this product and my boyfriend's help, it only cost me $40 to bleach my hair and removed 98.54% of the dye. The tiny amount leftover was from the super dark brown dye that turned reddish slightly and worked for coloring my hair afterward. My virgin roots that had no color were white after one application and 30 min. I did 2 applications each for max of 50 min. A few tips: Apply to ends first then roots. Get a friend's help to make sure you don't miss spots (I'm terrible when it comes to the back of my head so my bf's help was absolutely necessary. Some people can do without and idk how they do it). Watch Brad Mondo's youtube video on bleaching and dying hair. It was posted March/April of 2020 and is about 20 minutes of your time well spent. Your hair will be dry - definitely invest in a conditioning hair mask and a leave in conditioner to help restore moisture to your hair after bleaching and dying. Plan your evening around it. This is time consuming but considering how much money I saved by doing it myself, I'm much happier than if I had gone to the salon. It will heat up while sitting under that cap - that's normal and nothing to worry about. Don't wash your hair for a couple days before or else bleaching will burn. My hair is so dark it's almost black, so a lot of dyes don't seem to work very well on it, however, this lightened my hair to such a ridiculous degree without having to try and relighten it. Will definitely purchase again.
