    • Strong magnets, may not be food safe, lots of applications
Each round magnet is encased in rubbery plastic material. These were probably originally made to hold curtains, since the included instruction sheet says to "Make sure the two magnetic sides stick together when applied in curtain liner", with "curtain liner" crossed out in black marker. I am not sure if these are safe for food contact. I ordered these to use for holding sous vide bags, so I'll be using them outside of the sous vide bags (in the water) to avoid contact with food. The picture on the product page shows steaks held to the side of the sous vide container top and bottom, which you don't want to do because it would prevent water circulation on one side of the food. There are two sides, per the instructions: the magnetic side, and non-magnetic side, both unmarked. When you stick them magnetic side to magnetic side, they stick together so strongly I could not pry them apart. Instructions say to slide them apart instead, which is a bit difficult due to their rubbery surface. You can stick them magnetic side to non-magnetic side, and they will stick together with much less force. They will not stick if both non magnetic sides are used. There are a million other applications for these magnets at home, like sticking things to your fridge, which they won't scratch. ... show more

    • Strong magnets. Good for sous vide
While these magnets are fairly small, they are very strong. Be careful putting them back together! I almost got my finger pinched because they snap together so quickly. They are plenty strong to adhere through a sous vide bin. Pulling them apart can be a challenge but if you follow the directions that came with them and slide the magnets apart, they will detach. I haven't tried using them as a weight yet but I suspect you'd have to stack multiple ones together. They're just not very heavy.     • Sous Vide Magnets
These are great. You can use them as weights inside the sealed bags or you can use them to stick a bag to the container you're cooking in. The magnets are strong enough that you can place one outside the container and one inside to hold the bag in place where you want it. Of course if your sous vide container material is too thick, then it won't work that way. You would then just need to use them as weights only. I have one of the clear plastic bins that are specifically designed for Sous Vide cooking and these work great. They are a nice non-porous silicone covered disk that is sealed, food safe and heat tolerant. Definitely a good value for the money and you can just stick them to your fridge when not in use but they're a little difficult to get off the fridge once they're stuck :) ... show more

I was stoked when this came in! I use a large stock pot when I do sous-vide. I vacuum pack all my freezer stuff, but sometimes there's still a little air that would normally make a bag float to the top. I originally wanted to stick the bag to the side of the pot. Unfortunately, because of the curvature of the pot, the flat magnets aren't able to stick to a side. I ended up just using the magnets on the bottom This would work flawlessly with the square plastic sous-vide containers. Definitely a great buy in my opinion! ... show more

    • Great weights...
I am very new to sous vide cooking. I just bought a unit a couple of months back; and just started using it... Often wondering how to keep the food below the water so you can have that even cooking. When I saw these magnets, I was kind of excited about it. However, one pair came together where both magnetics faced each other. It's a bear trying to pull them apart. I haven't been able to yet. So right now I'm only using the other six. I'm hoping to find a guy around the senior complex that might be strong enough to pull these two apart. But they do work well. And it sure makes sous vide cooking a lot easier with these on hand. ... show more
