  • Best office chair I've ever owned!
Color: Black
FIVE AND HALF YEAR UPDATE: Yes, I still have this chair and use it daily for many hours. Here's how it's held up. I haven't had any more parts replaced since the last update. I still say it's the best office chair of I've ever owned. It's certainly still in use longer than any office chair I've owned. The arms just will not stay tight. I find my self re-tightening them at least once a week, and even tight they still wobble a bit. That is probably the most annoying thing though. The leather in the bottom and back has held up great. No cracks or tears. Even on the arm rests has held up pretty well but starting to crack right on the edges. Honestly, if this chair had memory foam in the bottom I'd probably keep it another 5 years. I'd say overall I've more than gotten my moneys worth. I'll keep it around, but I'm in the mood for a new chair. I'll see what Serta has these days first. COMING UP ON TWO YEARS: I still say it's the best office chair I've owned so far, but the mechanical assembly again is going to need to be replaced under warranty. It's wobbly again, and pops very loudly every time you sit in it like it's about to break at any time. This will be the second mechanical replacement under warranty, we'll see if it goes as smooth as the first one. I also have a hard time still keeping the screws that hold the arms on tight. I tighten them at least every week if not more often. It's still comfortable however and so far is lasting longer than any office chair I've owned, and I've had many. UPDATE: I forgot to come back and update on the issue. Manufacturer replaced the mechanical assembly AND chair seat under warranty no questions asked! Bumping back to 5 stars. Gas pressure lift still working just fine. Since I have discovered they make wheels for office chairs that use the same wheels as inline skates. They are all over Amazon and I HIGHLY recommend ordering some, they are relatively cheap! I'll never own another office chair without putting those wheels on them. So much better than the plastic casters all office chairs come with and great if you have a hard floor! ONE YEAR UPDATE: 09/04/16: Original review below. I'm dropping a star pending finding out if I can get warranty honored. Just like every other office chair I've owned, the mechanical mechanism gets "loose" for lack of a better way to describe it, so it wobbles from side to side, and this chair has done that too. I posted originally hoping that the gas mechanism would hold up long term, and so far it has, but I've got to contact them about getting a warranty replacement for the mechanical assembly. Depending on how that goes, I may be back dropping more stars. Also, the chair cushion has flattened out quite a bit and not near as comfy as it was when I got it. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm a big guy, 6" 2' and about 290#. I have gone through a lot of chairs from the office box stores over the last 10 years. Even bought the big and tall versions they offered. They ALL failed. So much so I started buying the extended warranties offered just to get an exchange replacement in store. 90% of the time it's the hydraulic lift that fails. If it's not that, it's the mechanical part underneath getting wobbly. Padding never holds up. Based on the reviews here I bought this one, and yes its a lot more expensive, most expensive office chair I've ever bought, and it was totally worth it so far. Obviously I don't know about longevity yet, but it's the most comfortable chair I've ever had by several magnitudes. Assembling it, it was apparent the construction was heavier duty than any I've owned before, including the big and tall ones commonly found in the box stores. Make no mistake this is a heavy chair, you'll likely need help assembling it. It feels good and solid and comfy. My significant other is tall but skinny, only 120# and she even loves it so much she's thinking about getting one. We both work on our computers and spend a great deal of time sitting in these chairs, so you can't underestimate the value of a good, comfy, sturdy chair. There is one negative about it. I can't keep the arm bolts tight. I've found I'm having to retighten them nearly every day. I'm going to get some locktite on them and that should take care of it, they might consider including a little sample tube with the chair to put on those during assembly. But the chair is so nice otherwise I'm not even going to take away a star for that one. ... show more

  • Comfy chair but limited height and features.
Color: Black
Just started sitting in this chair after assembly, the seat is very comfortable. Assembly was pretty straightforward and easy, getting the arms tightened down took a few tries, the lower bolt needed to be forced a little to pass a hard point. Once done the arms are pretty decent. The downside to this chair is the adjustments. Height adjustment is minimal and the max height seems to be low. This is not a tall person's chair, I am 5' 10" and it might be slightly too short. I would say the travel distance is 1 - 1/2" to 2" maybe for the height adjustment. The chair looks nice and is "Executive" in appearance. The feel of the cushion is great on the lower back and the air support works pretty well. I will update if I keep the chair, I'm giving it a few days before I make a solid decision. Updated Review: 7/26/2019 I'm still using this chair, I purchased a replacement piston that had more travel and was happy with it. The seat has held up pretty good for being a bigger guy. The only current complaint is the arms start to get loose after about a month and I have to go in and tighten them up. I still believe this is a decent chair, hopefully it will last a few more years! ... show more

  • Well made chair
Color: Black
I have had the chair for about a week and I am impressed with the comfort and quality of the chair. The chair is sturdy and well padded. The back and lumbar support is very good. I am 6'2" and 240 lbs. and width and height is perfect for my body type. Most comfortable office chair I have ever used or owned. The chair arrived well packed and undamaged. Very easy to assemble....be sure to leave the screws loose when attaching the back of the chair to the seat. The loose screws allow easy alignment and installation of the arms. When the arms are secure, the other screws can then be tightened. ... show more

  • UPDATED REVIEW: Six Months on, the chair even gets worse as it ages. Don't throw away your money on this chair!
Color: Black
Here's a long-term update, 6 months on from buying and assembling this chair. Today, actually 7 months after writing my initial review, I had to change my rating. From 2 stars to 1 star. The hydraulic lift has stopped...lifting. Yes, it has become yet another example of an incredible sinking chair. On top of the rotten design with the arms, rotten quality control in manufacturing and, you know, getting screw holes to actually LINE UP, and the permanent wobble with the arms (I measured it as 4 inches of wobble on the left and 6 inches of wobble on the right), now the darn chair isn't even comfortable any more. I bought this as kind of a present to myself, a premium chair to replace the old generic one I'd had for 15 years that I bought at OfficeMax. This terrible product hasn't even lasted 3/4 of a year without me needing to replace it. I will no longer be looking for Serta products with any products in the future. They've lost my business, there is absolutely no excuse for this product that is terrible in every possible way. --------------------------------------------------------- Review from Feb 2016 --------------------------------------------------------- This is a hard review to write.... as a starting place, now that I have FINALLY been able to get the chair assembled, it is extremely comfortable and supportive. A brief TLDR executive summary: Negatives: Cheap structural materials, poor quality control, rotten engineering and design around structural integrity, especially with the arms, really high price for the chair overall, but especially in consideration of the poor design and materials. Pros: Wow, it is comfortable. The seat and back surfaces are made of what feels to be supple, soft, high quality leather. Cushions are supportive and soft at the same time. Conclusion: Who knows how long it will last, arms make you mad every time you touch them, marring the strong cushion construction with cheap plastics. Now for the details and bad parts: 1. It was the hardest packaged furniture assembly I've ever encountered. It started out simple, but the act of attaching the back and the arms to the seat is extraordinarily hard to complete. 2. On the first attempted assembly, after a ton of time spent trying to get the arms attached we finally compared the two arms that were given and found that they didn't have the same curve and that the bolt holes didn't align with both arms. Basically at least one of them was defective. I called the manufacturer (NOT Serta, btw. Maybe a parent company? Hard to tell based on their very cryptic website), and "conveniently" they carry sets of replacement arms in stock and provided them as a warranty replacement. Two weeks later they arrived, and I tried to assemble it again.... 3. Second assembly, the stinking thing wouldn't go together AGAIN. The two NEW arms ALSO didn't match each other. I tried all the combinations of the 4 arms I now had, and finally was able to get two arms on at the same time. but only after REMOVING the bolts attaching the back to the seat. I then had to apply a series of judo holds to the chair in various different positions to be able to get the back and the seat partially bolted. Then I had to continue tightening incrementally the four bolts attaching the two, slowly pulling the two together with the bolts. With a small Allen wrench that for most things you have to use the long side to reach the bolt, meaning you have horrible leverage. Eventually, though, everything was fully tightened down. Then... 4. The small soft plastic covers for the bolts holes on the arms... terribly constructed, out of curve, push-in connectors barely match up with the holes on the chair. At this point, I wasn't surprised. When on the chair they leave little bubble humps between the connector points. 5. Finally sit down on it, and the first thing that I notice is that the arms are wobbly. VERY wobbly. Thinking through the engineering of the chair, this actually seems inevitable.... The arms are hard plastic, potentially with a steel understructure, not sure. The bolt holes in the seat and back have no flat surface for the side of the arm to lie against, basically resulting in a connection that is two bolts connected by a hard plastic piece, connecting into a bolt hole that has no other surface, it's just a tube going into the soft side of the chair or seat. The end result is that there is no reason to expect it to NOT wobble. <sigh>. I have no idea if this will develop into a problem down the road. 6. Final defect: There are small plastic clips on the bottom of the seat that are supposed to hold in place the cables running from the adjustment levers to the control base. The cables, of course, are made of fairly stiff steel. When I placed the first cable in it's clip, the clip snapped in half. My wrap up: Not even remotely worth the cost. Terrible engineering, cheap structural materials, poor manufacturing processes leading to at least a 50% out of spec situation with the arms, poor quality control processes leading to the defective parts making it into the boxes. No sense of the long term survivability of the chair due to all these factors. On the positive side, when you look past wobbly bits, clips that break, and the terrible assembly, it is really, really comfortable. Unfortunately, that adds up to a really poor overall value, given the high cost of the chair. ... show more
