To start, I’m a 40 year old woman, who until recently used manual tools, thinking that power tools were more trouble than they’re worth. Everything changed when I bought my first drill, so now I’m always on the lookout for tools that make my life easier. So onto the review....before I bought these shears, I was either hand-pulling or using these old scissor-like shears to get to the grass in those hard to reach places. Yesterday the Scotts shears came and after charging it up (a light indicates when it’s charging and goes off when it’s done) I took ‘em for a spin. They’re lightweight and so much fun to use! They cut through some crab with ease. Also the blades don’t extend past the sides, so whatever you’re cutting around, doesn’t get whacked.... I used these around my Intex vinyl pool, not all the way of course, but definitely much closer than I could take the weed whacker. Also, these have a safety mechanism that turns them off immediately if they hit something like a rock, which means there’s no danger of dangerous projectiles hitting your face (I was wearing flip-flops and I wonder what would happen if it hit my toes.... I probably should wear real shoes next time so I never have to find out). I haven’t used the long shrub attachment, because I don’t have shrubs, but they are probably just as effective as the grass shears. I purchased these to trim around hard-to-get places with a mower. I used the grass trimming attachment, and it worked perfectly. By that I mean that it cut through grass and didn't clog. Since that is why I purchased this I am 100% satisfied, especially the relatively low price (and the Prime overnight shipping when I purchased it.) If you are looking for a tool to trim bushes, this is probably not your best option, I tested it on some bushes and the pruning attachment was not nearly as efficient as the grass clipping one. Even smaller branches about the size of a ballpoint pen refill were a chore. Bottom line - if you want this as an inexpensive way to trim grass and the inevitable weeds in hard to get places it's easily up to the task. Add in the price (it was a third less than other models that I looked at), and the long battery life and it is a good value. As for the battery life, I was about to get a good two hours out of a single charge. ... show more

I'm pleased that this trimmer was lightweight and very easy to use. The blades easily snap on and off and, most importantly, they stay on when you cut/trim. If you try to cut twigs that are a bit bigger than small-shrub size, the blades will just freeze. The same goes for thick grasses. No problem, just remove whatever is caught in the blades and continue. It won't harm the trimmer. There was a little bit of grease on the blades when I opened the package. Again, no problem, I simply wiped it off with a paper towel. I assumed it was used to protect the blades while sitting in the warehouse. I wish the blade could be longer, like maybe 10 inches. How did I ever get by without this handy tool -- easy to use, no cheap materials, sharp blades, clean cut, lightweight (no tired hand/arm after several minutes), and so far a long lasting charge. Perfect for areas too small for the mower around hot tub and walkways. Works great for other areas I have accidentally chewed up with the weed eater. I can get around my new plantings without the 'whoops!' of chopping of branches and leaves I didn't intend to cut. Excellent product! ... show more

The shears were so easy to use and they easily cut through grass around planters, weeds, a/c units, etc; plus the attachment is so easy to click on and use. The attachment for trimming branches is NOT meant for thick branches. But, it works really well for trimming shrubs, small trees, and smaller branches. I was surprised that the battery lasted so long - a couple hours at least! This is a purchase I’m happy with and hope to use for several summers/autumns to come! ... show more

I despise string trimmers, so use rechargeable grass shears for edging around the rocks the line our garden areas. Last summer the shears I'd had for eons died and I bought new ones made by SunJoe. Those never worked well and by this summer they were awful, jamming whenever they met a slightly thicker blade of grass. I order these Scotts shears, hoping they would work better. I received them a couple of days ago and what a difference! They just slice right through the grass, even the dense clumps, and never jam. I had all the edging done in no time. I didn't get these for shrub trimming as I knew they wouldn't have the power to cut through larger branches. After they worked so well on grass though, I decided to try them on the shrubs whose spring growth was threatening to overtake our deck. Mind you this was all recent growth I was cutting, nothing thicker than 1/4 inch, but it sliced right through the branches I wanted to cut. I only tried it out for a couple minutes to check it out. It seems to be what I needed and wanted its lightweight easy to control and a tool you can have fun with. I have severe arthritis in my hands and I think this is the answer to allow me to do my own shaping. The safety button is kinda a pain but Im sure once I get the hang of it and get a groove going it will be second nature. Really looking forward to doing my shaping of evergreen bushes and hope to include a pic once I do it. If you have issues with your hands but want to still do ur bushes etc give this tool a try I think you will be pleased. I love it so far and recommend it highly it cut the smaller lil branches with ease and the greenery like butter didnt stall at all, but you can get carried away if you enjoy doing your trimming it takes no time at all and compared to hand shaping trimming it blows it away.
