This block looks nice and is quite sturdy. Unfortunately however, it arrived with a very large, deep, and noticeable scratch on the side. I tried to seek a replacement but there were no others available, so my only options were to get a refund or keep the scratched item. I chose to keep the scratched one because, even with the unsightly scratch, it’s still nice. Plus, I can “hide” the scratch by turning the block a certain way. ... show more

We own a rather expensive, eclectic assortment of kitchen knives, many of which are difficult to keep in a typical knife block with predetermined slot sizes. Thus, we needed the freedom to customize the configuration of our knife storage. Plus, available counter space is at a premium, so the knife block had to be sleek and unobtrusive, yet sturdy. This elegant black oak knife stand fits the bill perfectly. The magnets are strong -- all our knives are firmly held in place on both sides of the block. Our cutting board and prep area is on a kitchen island so, pulling the knives upward and out from this is simple. If you have overhanging cabinets, you likely won't be able to remove the knives as easily. We wanted the acrylic shield to prevent accidentally knocking knives off the magnetic plate and it works as expected. Love the beveled edges on the acrylic shield which shows attention to workmanship. It is also heavy enough that it feels very stable when using it. (A large cleaver that is held quite tightly by the magnetic board still doesn't cause the holder to budge when pulling it out for use) Quick access to all our knives, even the ones we only occasionally use and are on the back side of the holder. It is beautiful and it works. Even with clean knives it seems to lose adhesion and given that it is only magnetic I assume it's dust. But, it's hard to clean the inner layer without smudging the clear layer and finding a place to put all of your knives. This is just nit-picking.
