PETKIT PuraMAX TLDR: Great purchase, mostly easy to keep clean. Do not use the N50. Takes up 26x40” of floor space with the mat. I bought this litter box September 2023 and have been very happy with it. I use it with the petkit mixed litter. I have two cats, and one is very picky about the cleanliness of the litter box. Both cats took to it immediately! I chose the PuraMax because you can buy replacement parts (such as the mat inside the drum). It is important to me to be able to maintain the machine for such an expensive litter box. The app is fairly user-friendly. I like the smart settings that allow you to customize the timing and type of cleaning. The “Adsorption Enhance” rolls the litter around before emptying, which is super helpful if your cat doesn’t bury their poop. I empty the waste bin about every 5 days, and I add half a bag of litter every other bag change. I fully change the litter every 3-4 weeks. This is the worst part! You have to reach in and push a plastic shield onto the grate to empty the litter fully. Then you have to touch the shield (that just touched all of the used litter) to pull it off at the end. Deep cleaning the machine is not as gross as emptying the litter IMO. The drum comes apart easily and you can take most of the parts outside to hose them off. The base is the only part that needs to be wiped down because it houses the electronics. I used the N50 for the first few days only. It is a small gel square that is supposed to mask odor. The scent was a little strong for me. When I went to change the litter the first time, the N50 was moldy and covered in maggots! I almost gave up on the whole machine, but decided to deep clean instead and try without the N50. I’ve had no problems since, and instead I sometimes add a desiccant pack just to help remove moisture. The smell is only noticeable when it is time to empty the waste bin. My only hesitation in buying a second PuraMax is the size. The machine itself requires about 26” width and 20” depth of floor space. The mat adds about 20” to the depth, so in total you need 26”x40”. Thats a lot of space for a litter box! If the PuraX had replacement parts I would buy that to replace the regular box in my small half bathroom ... show more

    • Impossible to clean
I've had this for a few months now and I honestly feel like it's more hassle than a regular litter box. None of the grates provided are successful at getting out all of the clumps so I still find myself having to scoop. I've tried different types of litter and it doesn't make a difference, it legitimately does not do what it is designed to do. And as someone who prefers to deep clean the litter box every few weeks, I find that any time I would have saved in daily scooping is now taken by the task of trying to full empty out the litter. The design is not water tight which means that cat pee has seeped inside to places that I cannot disassemble to clean. And yes, old pee increases in smell.     • Expensive but worth saving my time
I have two cats and I also own two Puramax units. I purchased my first one and one of my cats took to it right away but the other would not after seeing it rotate, so I left one regular box for him. After 6 months, I found the Puramax so convenient I was determined to get my other cat to use it. I bought a second unit and set the timer on both to 30 minutes after use and it worked! Each cat claimed a Puramax and now I only empty the units once a week. The smell in my home is down a lot and so is my tireless hunting for buried treasures. Also gives me good insight on when they do their business, how long it takes, and how frequent. Product works very well and the app is well written. Tip, you can just buy regular 4 gal bags instead of the Puramax bags. ... show more

We have 4 cats and 2 litter bots. This was purchased to replace the 2nd. Litter robot 3 broke and we got a different box that just did not work well. This one works very smoothly. No issues so far. Keeps it very clean. Has a smaller grate option for clay litter.

    • BEST MONEY SPENT
We bought ours two months ago and it’s been a LIFE SAVER for us! We both struggle to remember to scoop and we had so many different litter boxes we’ve tried. The finally pulled the trigger and spent the money and it was worth every penny! My only qualms are we had a minor bit of urine leak through onto the outside but I have not seen any since. Also the mat that came with it is garbage 😂. Couldn’t get it to lay flat at all because it was bent from shipping. We just use a reg rug and vacuum it. Our 2 cats definitely were scared of it at first. Then they used it and we were excited- then they hated it and one actually pooped on our carpet somewhere else in the house in protest 😂 I was determined so I turned it off and filled it with treats and catnip constantly and really encouraged them with positive enforcement: then a couple days later they were using it and then another day I would clean it manually periodically so it wouldn’t scare them. Bada bing here were are 2 months later and they use it perfectly! It’s so easy to empty. It keeps the stink down SO MUCH and we didn’t buy any of the sprays or filters. I think with 2 cats we empty it at most 2 times a week. Usually the first time it says it needs empty I open it and shimmy the poop and pee down into the bag and even it out and it gives it a couple more days. Sometimes there’s some minor things like I have to push the button a bunch of times or a glitch in the app but nothing major. I love it. I’m so grateful for it.
