  • Update: 26 months later
Update: It has now been 26 months since I purchased my Pelonis FS-40-16CR Turbo Silence Stand Fan. I run it nearly daily for hours at a time and it has operated flawlessly. I ordered a Rowenta pedestal first but it was awkward to assemble because of the angled pedestal and the fan blades turned out to be unbalanced, which caused the fan to wobble and vibrate. The Pelonis arrived today and it was easy to assemble. As with most fans, the nut that attaches the blade assembly to the motor shaft is tightened by turning it counter-clockwise instead of the usual clockwise direction. This keeps it from loosening up as the fan blades rotate in a clockwise direction. As others have noted, the remote control battery compartment takes a little while to figure out how to open it. The secret is to push the little "h" shaped arm sideways away from the edge while pulling the battery cover toward the bottom edge of the remote. A 2032 battery then fits into the battery cover, which you then slide back into the body of the remote. The description states that the 2032 battery is not included, but I later found one in the bottom of the box. The fan has 12 speeds in the "normal" setting with the lower speeds being very quiet. (I haven't checked yet to see if all the speeds are available at the other available settings.) I suspect the silent mode is restricted to the lowest setting.) All fans are noisy at high settings due to the speed at which the blades push the air and the Pelonis is no exception. Brushless DC motors can be made smaller than AC motors so the motor in the Pelonis is lighter than the Rowenta. This makes it easier to assemble. The transformer for converting standard U.S. household 110 AC voltage to DV voltage is inside the pedestal so there is no "brick" transformer like there are with laptops, etc. The remote works well and there are similar controls on the pedestal in case you lose or break the remote. The pedistal shows the fan speed setting for several seconds before going out so you don't have to cover the speed indicator light at night. The DC motor uses less watts than an AC motor for any given speed so there will be some savings on electrical costs, especially for those of us who run a fan nearly continuously. The base is heavy enough to hold the pedestal steady. There is a small tab on the bottom of the pedestal, which fits into a notch in the base. This allows the pedestal to fit securely into the base. My only complaints so far are the lack of a description of the various modes of operation (Normal, "slumberous," and silent wind mode) in the instructions and the box erroneously stating that the remote takes 2AAA batteries. I will update this review if there are any changes over time. For now, I am very pleased. (I have no connection with the seller or the manufacturer. I was not sent the product to review and I did not receive any compensation or other incentive for writing this review.) ... show more

  • Great fan, but not Pelonis as claimed
The fan is as pictured, but you'll notice there is no Pelonis branding anywhere on it. There is also (you'll discover when it arrives) no Pelonis branding on the box either. The instruction booklet says it comes from Koper Air and there's a sticker on the box indicating that it was made in China. I didn't receive the wrong item; this is definitely the fan pictured here on Amazon. Koper Air doesn't seem to have a Web site; Googling "Koper Air" finds sites about air quality in a town called Koper in Slovenia. But for all I know, the Pelonis fan is made in the same factory. Mine was missing the screw that secures the fan cover, or maybe it just fell out and rolled under the furniture when I was emptying the box. It is not vital to the operation of the fan; the cover stays in place fine without the screw. I am sure I could rummage around in the toolbox and find one that would fit, or probably the manufacturer would send me one, if it bothered me enough to contact them, and they answer their e-mail. The fan is well-built and was straightforward to assemble once I figured out the big plastic nut that holds the fan blade on is threaded backward. It runs quietly and moves a surprising amount of air even at the lowest speeds. The remote is a great feature because it lets my wife adjust it without getting out of bed (the fan's really fer her because she prefers it cooler at night). The remote is infrared so does require line of sight with the sensor, which is about halfway up the pedestal. I should probably send it back since it is arguably overpriced for a no-name product with a manufacturer who may or may not stand behind it. But I needed a fan and this is a good one, and it's not worth my time to send it back. We'll see how it holds up. ... show more

  • Great fan, awkward fan problem..
The media could not be loaded. I bought this fan a year and a half ago and it has been great. I run it at level 2-4 in my room when sleeping and it is very sufficient. Good effective breeze, No issues... Until about 1-2 months ago after moving to a new place. Haven’t seen this problem in any other reviews and I have no idea if there is anyone who can help or give me advice on this. Once in a while or every few days, the fan automatically starts oscillation mode. Then it turns off oscillation mode. And on and off. At completely inconsistent intervals. I call this phantom fan mode. Sometimes this happens constantly for a good few seconds. And since this fan beeps every time a mode is changed, I get woken up to this if it’s in the middle of the night, or I just hear a bunch of beeping noises from my bedroom, it gets quite annoying. Maybe the button is jammed? I don’t know. I ruled out the remote from being an issue by removing the battery during this. It happens out of nowhere. I will try and stop it from the fan buttons or the remote buttons, and I succeed, but more often than not it keeps going back and forth on oscillating or not, so I shut it off for a while. I’ll add a video if I catch it happening again soon. Update- video added Any ideas or advice? 5 stars for being a really good effective fan 1 star when it gets in this “phantom fan mode” ... show more

  • Nice fan - after 2 months it is still working fine
I have been using the fan for two months now and I like it. The fan is quiet at medium speeds but gets noisy at fast speeds (but not annoying and about the same as my Rowenta). The fan motor seems to be cool to the touch and pushes a good amount of air. I think other fans may be more powerful, but also much noisier. The build quality is only OK, not built very sturdy, but sturdy enough. I would call it a lightweight fan. The oscillation, off timer, and remote work just fine. I'm not sure if the DC Motor of the fan provides the 72% increase in efficiency that I read about, but the motor runs very coolly to the touch. I thought for the price that it would have been a more solid build. The markings on the box did not indicate any company branding, so I am suspicious about a bait and switch. Pelonis is well known for fans, so I suspect they are reselling a third party made fan. ... show more
