  • A fantastic litter box
Finally! A box that simplifies the task! At a reasonable cost. No need to spend half a grand. I was prepared for this not to work as simply and effectively as it does. After working with many other types and left frustrated, forever sweeping, vacuuming far down a hall (and holding my breath against smell), this box has made it so easy to clean regularly. Still a chore, of course, but not one so bad that you find any excuse to avoid, to the disfavor of your pet. In the action of tipping all the way over, back, and just a bit more, I was convinced it would spill everywhere. But, NO. NO litter on the floor. No need to worry about the lid coming off. The locking clips are secure and not touched when you roll. The added advantage of the rolling, is if you have a totally unconventional cat who does not scratch til the end of time to bury his #2, it will be covered by the time it is retrieved in the closed pull/drawer scoop. Have a small waste can liner open and ready. Pull out, deposit into waiting bag, return scoop to box, and close your bag. Almost no smell, and only for a tiny fraction of the time standing over an open box sifting from one end to the other. I have added litter just through the entrance to refill to line indicated on interior wall, so I haven't needed to remove top. I only wish it came in an even larger size. We have three cats using it! (No problem at all to clean every day now. With the lower smell, we have it placed were it is passed several times a day. No shoving to a far corner, out of sight put if mind.) No, the reason I wish for a larger size is our grey mackerel tabby is a big American boy. He uses it without any issue, but I can't imagine how he turns around in it. As he was my concern, I had left our previous box, an over size, open top with high walls, close to this when I set it up. He ignored that and went right to this! I will admit, I am so excited about this I am reviewing after only two weeks. It is entirely plastic. It has a slick surface on interior. With the shifting of the litter, build up sticking to the interior sides has not happened, yet. The built in screen/shelf for scoop, is one piece, bent to 90°angle, and clicked into place. I do not know how long I can go without totally disassembling for a wash. Time will tell how many opening and closing of the clips will add occur before a break. You will have to find a litter that fills your needs AND works with this box. The sifting wall is comprised of a long piece of plastic with long slots, alternating with slats of equal width plastic. Too big a granule of litter, or granules that swell large but don't clump, will have you finding litter in the scoop. In sampling many varieties of litter, I had already been using one made from walnut shells. For a time, with previous box (and fewer cats), the box was in the bathroom and I flushed the waste; walnut shells are flushable. It naturally covers (most of the) smell. It creates no dust. It has no chemicals. It upsales/recycles a sustainable, green, waste product. (It really sickens me that as a culture we are using food, actual wheat and corn for cat litter; not the chaff and cob, but the grain!) It is relatively more expensive by weight, but have found it lasts a longer time. Not as much volume is used in covering and clumping. The recycled paper I tried did not clump or absorb (to my surprise). Also I could see that colored ink was in the mix and the types of ink were not listed. Every clay I tried had dust, even dustless. I didn't like spending time sifting, outside, with a mask, so the cats wouldn't be inhaling that. I use the medium size crushed walnut shells. The smallest stays in paws and one will find at farthest end of house. The pellets, though they absorb urine, don't clump (perhaps they are suited for boxes with bases that strain onto a pad.) I have no idea if these would trigger a nut allergy in a susceptible person. ... show more

  • Actually, my second purchase….
Full disclosure, I purchased one of these at one of those chain pet stores, not saying if it was “co” or “smart”…. I have an average sized cat with long fur and feathers. The first one I purchased was probably the smaller version, easy to assemble, easy to use BUT just too darned small for my sized cat…. maybe for a short haired cat, maybe, but for my longer haired bad boy (who is NOT a fatty), no, it just wasn’t a good fit, for a number of reasons. I purchased this larger one thru Amazon, interestingly enough, ended up being the same price…. simple to assemble, clever design, really easy to use, clean, simple. It’s kind of vague with regards to what litter works best, which litters are better, so, here’s what I have found…. Researching on line, using the smaller box, I kept hearing about using “the best” cat litter…. It worked well for a few days, but then it started to smell of cat pee and cornflakes. I did “the roll” daily, and it kept the odor down, but, in the end, it was just too darned expensive and not that great. I tried “regular” clay litters…. some worked well, some didn’t…. the clumping litters worked well for locking away the urine, but, after a few days, there tended to be “that smell”. It could have been the smaller box held less litter, which it does, there is a “fill to” line, pay attention to that, the filtering process doesn’t work so well of you go over that line, you end up with “clean” litter filling up the “nugget drawer”. So, I got the bigger box, the biggest they offer here on Amazon, which, overall, footprint wise, isn’t all that much bigger, but it is big enough to allow for more room for the wee beastie, and I decided to try the “blue crystals”, used these in the past, had pretty good results, and, I must say, I am happy with the results with this box. I use a full bag with the largest box, it sifts well on the roll, it settles back nicely on the roll back, minimal odors, next to none, a bit pricy, but overall, a better selection, just saying. Pretty pleased right now. Very pleased, actually. Part II: Okay, been using the blue crystals, 8 lb bag goes for about $22. I have tried the “fancy” versions of the crystals, the color changing pH crystals, just to see if those made a difference. I can get about two weeks on the crystals, no more than than. I am trying a clay based litter now which I used to be able to find but seemed to have vanished from the local store shelves, $7 for a 10 lb bag, and, to be honest, the old school stuff seems to be working best…. Not naming brands, but it’s the blue bag with the black and white kitty! UPDATE: After several months, I (foolishly) decided to try another litter box brand. Yeah. I just bought another. Should have never tried the other. This is so easy. ... show more

  • Good, but a bit flimsy
Not as sturdy as they used to be. I had bought one years ago and loved it. This new one is good but has issues. The plastic wall cracked immediately I pulled on it; they've become much more flimsy. There's no overhanging lip on the inside of the lid where it meets the pan, so if you've got wall-sprayers, urine can leak through to the outside. The locking tabs are always falling off, I don't even put them back on any more. I like how tall it is and how it's easy to clean with the curved sides. I don't use the rocking feature and took out the tray, but it works great as a plain old litterbox. ... show more

  • Works GREAT & DURABLE!
These work so well I decided an update was called for. I purchased my first Omega Paws XL litter box on 12/21/2016 then, because it worked so well, I bought 5 more (for additional rescued cats). After almost 8 yrs, all 6 litter boxes are still going strong & show no signs of wear. These litter boxes have made it possible for me, a 78 year old with a bad back & arthritis, to continue to provide a loving home for my precious rescues. Size of boxes have served all my cats who range in weight from 10 to 14 lbs. I empty the boxes once daily &, after almost 8 years, have had no issues with these Omega Paws boxes. I like that they are not high tech therefore not complicated or subject to breaking parts or requiring 'special' expensive litter. I use, widely available & reasonably priced, Scoop Away litter. I imagine that any good clumping litter would work. ... show more
