My wife is really into cooking with cast iron and this filled her bill. She has regular round ones but always wanted a square pan. I like that it had instructions for seasoning. I usually just wing it but I am going by the instructions on this one.

I like the product very much and it is basically as described. I will say that I didn't realize it would require more seasoning. That is probably reasonable; I just didn't know it.     • Really poor casting
I should have shipped this back, but thought I could fix it. I had to do the same this to other cast iron. I used 60 grit sand paper and sanded the bottom smooth. Well it did get smoother but there were davits in the bottom that looked as if someone had tried to remove something while it was still molten. It also had a big hunk of metal that didn't get trimmed on the pour spout. I seasoned it again after I sanded it. I couldn't do anything about the spout. It is not as heavy as my other cast iron of similar size. I didn't see another square pan so I'm keeping this one. I didn't want a grill pan. I will go to Lodge outlet and see if I can find one there and use this until them. Update 1.6.21 Do not try and use the spout on this pan. I should have realized that you can't pour from the spout. Bacon grease went everywhere. Just like a square glass you can only take a small sip or it dribbles out the sides and all over cheek, some grease did come out the spout but most flowed over the sides and onto the stove, counter and floor.     • Love and hate this pan.
The shape of this pan is excellent. I had been looking for square flat bottom pan to replace an older Wenger that has been in the family. This one seemed like a winner. It is not a bad pan, but has two issues. 1. It does not hold seasoning well. Even after high heat lard seasoning the seasoning did not last very long. I only cook breakfast foods and sandwiches in it, nothing acidic. 2. The size is deceptive in a bad way. It does not hold four sandwiches at once like the smaller, less flared pan I used to use. It also has trouble with full strips of bacon. I really wanted to give this pan more stars as it performs very well, but the above items are annoying enough to merit the loss of stars. ... show more

    • Better to look and feel the surface before you buy.
This is a sturdy pan. However, it is not smooth on the inside and actually has bad spot about 2” big in one of the corners. I would not purchase this skillet again. Bad investment.
