I've had fire engine red hair for over a decade now, and I've tried a lot of different brands - Manic Panic, Arctic Fox, Pulp Riot, Ion, Lime Crime, just to name some of the more popular brands. I'm naturally a dark blonde or possibly light brunette, and this so far is the ONLY brand I've found where I don't need to lighten my natural color for my hair to take the bright, vibrant red. It's one and done, and I get a gorgeous, cherry red with minimal variations. The only cons I would say are it STAINS, so wear gloves, ear covers, Vaseline at hairline, and clothes you don't mind turning red - a lot of color dyes do this though, especially the reds, so you should already be aware if it's not your first rodeo. The only other drawback is the conditioner packets it comes with are SO tiny. My hair wasn't dry afterwards, but you'll most likely want to have more conditioner on hand. I will start this review by saying I've been dyeing my hair red for over 10 years so I know a thing or two about boxed dyes. In the beginning I tried absolutely every brand under the sun but none of them lasted more then two washes. I finally found one I loved - Garnier Fructisse R3 - and I used it for 8 years but lately I've noticed it's not as red as it used to be. It could just be that my hair is changing as I'm getting older. Who knows. So I've decided to try a new brand and picked this one. Pros - the color is freaking amazing! Beautiful bright red even on my dark roots. Cons (and there's a lot of them) 1. It is not easy to use. There is no applicator bottle so I had to mix it in a solo cup. And because of this I had to apply it with my hands and not an easy to use bottle with a point. It does come with a brush but I have loads of hair and it wasn't practical. And because I was applying with my hands the dye got all over my face, neck and arms. More on this later 2. When I first applied it to my hair my scalp STUNG so bad I almost had to wash it all off. It was so painful!!! My whole head was on fire plus my ears because dye got on those too. I was so close to giving up but I fought through the pain which lasted about 7ish minutes. 3. The dye will stain your skin. Especially along your hair line (see pictures). So don't expect to go out that night. I'd wait till at least one wash. I'd recommend to cover your arms with long sleeves and tighter gloves. 4. It will also stain your pillow and hair towel. A LOT. I'm going to the gym later so I'm worried about sweating and it dripping all over my face. It also stained my counter top which I had to use bleach to get rid of. Other products get cleaned with just all purpose cleaner. 5. It takes forever to get the dye out of your hair in the shower. I was in there for about 45 minutes when I finally gave up. Again I do have a lot of hair. 6. My roots turned it way brighter then the rest of my hair. (see pictures). Not sure how to fix that in the future. If you're ok with all the cons then I'd recommend the following: Cover your area with an entire towel. Paper towels are not enough. Wear long sleeve arm gloves. Don't use the gloves they provide. Buy an applicator bottle to use instead of mixing in a bowl or cup. Or mix first then put it in a bottle. Use two boxes if you have longer hair. Not sure how to prevent the stinging. Try to protect your hair line. I think I read once that putting conditioner along the line will help prevent getting dye on your skin. If this dye washes out in less then 5 washes then I'll post an update. If you don't see an update then that means it's lasting an appropriate amount of time considering the hassle it was to do. In the pictures I posted a picture of my hair before I dyed it. I also posted wet and dry pictures. Plus a picture of my hair line. I hope this review helps! ... show more

It was horrific, not like the others I have used, put it on, the color wouldn't wash out, even after 2 wks, the color is still coming out, the left over I put into a glass jar n put a lid on, thats when it exploy ted n stained my wood bureau, I have washed my hair a lot of times n the color is so strong that it will not come out, Amazon send me 2 more which I don't want, pls take me out of subscribed as I didn't subscribed, not after this experience, I have been dying my own hair for years, n everything also went good, except for this time that was so horrific, Ichad used a white towel n after wiping my hair the towel was completely red, don't want any, want to return the 2 that was send n get my money back. ... show more

I have tried A LOT of products and none of them give you this vibrant red. It even dyed some of my dark, almost black roots (I had previously bleached hair with a red color from a salon trip). I highly recommend this hair dye. Yes, it fades fast but using the right shampoo and conditioner can make it last much longer. I shampoo once a week and this personally helps me maintain the color longer. I will be trying a copper shade now that the red has faded. I cannot rave about this dye more!! ... show more
