Description

The Mirka DEROS is a very lightweight random orbital sander with a brushless electric motor. The input voltage is 110V. The Mirka DEROS has a soft start function, a built-in electronic motor brake, and an easy-to-use speed controller. Thanks to its highly efficient motor, the Mirka DEROS provides strong performance and ensures a constant speed even under high pressure. It is suitable for various sanding tasks, and the symmetrical design allows comfortable use with both the left and right hand. The extended body provides enough space for two-handed operation. This tool has changed my shop life. I had been suffering from what I can only assume is carpel tunnel in my wrist from working in general, and exasperated by sanding. I was using a DeWalt prior to being turned on to the Mirka, and it was awkward and heavy, making sanding while suspending the tool in the air (like sanding the edge of a board) painful, especially after a long session. This sander is incredibly light in comparison. The center of gravity is quite low and it is compact, making it easier to keep flat on the workpiece as well as making it more maneuverable. The vibration from this tool is so minimal that I no longer need gloves, and it is impressively quiet. I used this sander for about 6 months under heavy use, and inevitably an electrical problem occurred (I actually live in the rainforest where humidity is stupid high all year). I sent it back to Mirka with a brief explanation of what happened and how I hoped that they could repair it for me. Within ten days I had a brand new sander in its own new systainer box and all of the original accessories that came with the first one. I was resistant to paying this much money for such a tiny little tool, and put if off for a long time. But it is really a pleasure to use, very controllable and just feels like its a top shelf tool. So quiet, especially on the lower speed setting, that I don't even use earplugs. Try that with an air tool! In build, its as good as all my Festool stuff. I was wishing they produced one with a 3mm stroke, but I think this 5mm stroke is actually better for what I do, which is to sand and buff nitrocellulose lacquer. ... show more

I love this sander. I'm a full time woodworker and have owned a cabinet shop for ten years. I started out with the standard big box store brand 5" sander that cost around $100. It was fine. But after about a year it actually vibrated itself to death. Falling apart from hours and hours of use. I then moved on the the high end Festool brushless 5" sander. It was around $400. It was great compared to the cheaper ones. Easier to hold and it did a great job. But when you sand for eight hours straight you want the best tool you can possible get. So I got the Mirca 5" sander. I didn't know if it would be better than the festool one, but it is. I like the way it fits in my hand. I like how the paddle on the top turns it on and off. It does a good job. After a year of use I think it was well worth the money. Because I sand a lot of sharp edges I use solid 5" sanding disc. Anything with holes gets riped pretty fast. I swear by the 5" Indasa sanding discs. Even though they are solid this sander does a good job of sucking up all the dust. It has ports that get the dust as it comes off the disc. I know $600 is a lot to spend on a sander, but its worth it if you sand stuff for a living. ... show more

I thought this would be useless to me as I have the Festool RO90. Even though this lacks a true gear drive mode it is somehow more aggressive. The paper is smaller, and the tool itself is much smaller. Dust collection is great.

I'd like to say all the positive reviews are true, light easy on the hands, light, dustless, quiet are all correct. This is the best sander I've ever used. I used it for about 30 minutes the first time. A couple of days later on the second use, it wouldn't turn on. When you power on there is a red light, instead of a green light and it won't turn on. After this happened, I read the negative reviews and apparently these sanders don't last long, which is unacceptable for a sander that cost $625. I also noticed Mirka didn't respond to any of the problems users were complaining about in the reviews, which tells you something. As much as I loved this sander when it worked, I can't say I will try other Mirka product. ... show more

    • Not what I thought it would be

The machine I have is a smaller orbit than what I’m used to. I work in a body shop and the cheaper DA’s do cut faster. I love the electric part when you can’t get to an air hose. It does have less vibration that was the main reason why I bought. Less than 45 days in and it started to shut itself down and I thought it was a heat issue but it’s actually the switch is bad. I’ll plan to file a warranty claim next week. I’m not sure if they’ll ship me out a new one because it’s so new or if I have to go through a long process of sending it in. Either way I’m down a sander and don’t have $600 to replace it today. ... show more

This sander has outperformed any sander I’ve previously owned by a landslide. Doesn’t overheat, has good control, doesn’t leave marks all over like an orbital sander, and just overall better.
