Frequently asked questions

This means that the package includes only the sander itself. No battery or charger is included. You will need to purchase a DEWALT 20V MAX battery and charger separately if you do not already have them.

OPM stands for orbits per minute. This signifies how fast the sander vibrates or 'orbits.' Higher OPM usually means more sanding power. This DEWALT model operates at a maximum of 12,000 OPM, which means it can quickly smooth rough surfaces.

Yes. Brushless motors are known for their efficiency and longevity. This type of motor reduces friction and heat buildup, which helps to extend the tool's lifespan. It also results in longer run times between charges because it uses energy more efficiently.

An 'orbital' sander moves the sanding pad in a random orbital action. This movement not only helps the tool to work faster, but also results in a smoother finish as it helps to minimize visible sanding marks.

Customers also appreciate its compatibility with other DeWalt batteries they own and its value for money. It outperforms other sanders in its category, and its built-in LED display enhances its convenience. However, customers note that its dust bag could use some improvement.

  • DEWALT 20V Orbital Sander – Powerful and Easy to Use!
Style: Tool Only
I recently picked up the DEWALT 20V Orbital Sander, and I’m really impressed with its performance! It’s lightweight, easy to handle, and packs a lot of power for a cordless sander. I’ve used it for several DIY projects, and it’s made sanding so much quicker and less tiring. The variable speed control is great because it allows me to adjust the sanding power depending on the material I’m working with. The dust collection system works well too, keeping the workspace cleaner than I expected. One of the best features is the 20V battery—no cords to get tangled up in, and it gives me plenty of power for most sanding jobs. The only thing to note is that the battery doesn’t last forever on tougher jobs, but it’s easy to swap out for a charged one. Overall, this DEWALT sander is a solid tool for anyone looking for a reliable, cordless sander. It’s powerful, easy to use, and makes sanding much more efficient. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Of the quality I expect from DeWalt
Style: Tool Only
I started buying DeWalt tools a dozen years ago, after my first set of inexpensive drill/driver from another brand lasted about one year before the batteries just stopped charging. It was sad, because they weren’t used all that much, so I decided no more cheap sets, figured I’d read reviews and tool blogs and figure out what made more sense for me. DeWalt was more affordable of the higher quality options than Milwaukee or Makita, and it was what they were using on This Old House at the time, so I bought my first set in 2010, a drill and driver with a couple small batteries and charger. Fast forward thirteen years, and those batteries still work great. I’ve expanded my arsenal of tools over the years, all DeWalt for the battery ones, and have not yet been disappointed. So when I needed an orbital sander, I just shopped around for price and landed here. I only needed the bare tool, have a few good batteries of different Ah, so this was a great buy compared to the hardware stores. I started using it right away for the project I was en mid; it works really nicely, collects the dust in the little bag as much as it can, and runs like a trouper. It preferred the 4 Ah battery to the 2 Ah, in terms of run time, and I was just sanding 1x3s. It was comfortable to hold and use despite some gnarly carpal tunnel that I have developed, and didn’t bother me a bit to maneuver. I am a woman with medium sized hands (size 7 glove) that aren’t all that strong anymore, but I don’t have a problem handling these tools, for whatever reason. Yeah, I’m biased toward the brand that has worked for me across many different tools (just bought a hammer drill for digging in the garden with an auger, and I love it), but the batteries I’ve had have been good so far, and this tool is designed well and works nicely without excessive vibration or bounce. It’s been very handy, and I’m no longer dreading the sanding part of my little projects around the house… which is saying something, because I used to hate that part! ... show more

  • Best Little Sander I've Ever Had
Style: Tool Only
I've been wanting to get a wireless orbital sander for quite a while now, so I can get away from being limited by a cumbersome electrical cord. After looking and several different ones and reading multiple reviews, and because I already have at least a half dozen DeWalt 20 volt tools and mulitple batteries, I decided to get this one. This tool is simply a joy to use. I love the way the velcro keeps the pad in place, and there is no more fuss attaching rectangular shaped paper to the old style sanders with those pesky wire springs. It also does a much better job in a lot less time than any of my previous corded orbital sanders... and that's no exaggeration. It's also lighter and a lot easier to maneuver than the old rectangular shaped sanders with handles. This one is easly guided by the palm of your hand and it does a superb job. I also love the way it stops instantly when switched off, so there is no more waiting several seconds for a sander to stop running before setting it down, and not more of that aggrivating feeling that my arm is vibrating for several minutes after turning off the tool. It also has a variable speed setting, which is a great added feature. I grabbed this for $99 a couple months ago and it was a super deal. Thank you, Amazon! Note that this is the bare tool only (no battery or charger included), which is no big deal because I have many DeWalt batteries and at least 3 or 4 chargers already. Take it from a life-long wood worker who builds hardwood furniture and lots more, for a hobby. This tool needs to be in your shop. After the first time you use it, you'll feel like kicking yourself for not getting one sooner. ... show more

  • A great improvement over the electric sander
Style: Tool Only
I'm very impressed with this Dewalt sander, works great sanding our park bench and it didn't drain all the battery while doing it. It uses the same battery pack as my drill and driver so it's great to share the batteries and save a few bucks. Not the strongest sander but it was stable enough with lesser vibration than my old Ryobi electric one to get the job done. Recommended sander for more wood project needs. ... show more
