This replaced my 54 year old Skil belt sander that could no longer be repaired. I wanted a cordless as I use it remotely at times. This tool is much quieter and smoother, has a dust collector port, and also has a side lever for changing belts that I find very easy to use. See above, this tool is absolutely rugged, efficient and reliable. Certainly gets the job done. But then , I'm a DeWalt man! Easy to change grits with the flip of a switch, heavy but still useful. I'm not doing drywall !

I have multilple 20/60 volt batteries so, when my 40+ year old corded Craftsman belt sander died, this seemed like a logical way to go. I'm glad I got it. It has lots of power, is super easy to load belts and adjust tracking and it is a pleasure to be uncorded. Any uncorded tool will get a lot more use due to the convenience. Others have truthfully noted that it uses up battery charges quickly, running for around 30-40 continuous minutes. Very high quality sander that is surprisingly quiet (for a sander) and does an amazing job at capturing dust. However, it kills the standard dewalt 20 volt batteries that came with my other dewalt power tools within 5-10 minutes of use. You will need to order a couple of much bigger, 5amp batteries to make this useful so tack on another $100 or so to your total purchase price. ... show more

I needed something lightweight and portable for taking to the job site. No plugging in or fooling with a cord. This sander is very convenient for what I do when installing cabinets and laminate countertops. I don't need a lot of run time so the 5ah battery is sufficient. I wouldn't use it for large surface areas because small sanders like this tend to be tippy and can cause damage if not held flat to surface. As far as the build of this sander I am satisfied. Bought this with the intent of refinishing some door frames. Figured it would help cut the time down a little. With a coarse belt this thing makes short work of it. I purchased a separate shop vac adapter for dust collection and it kept things very clean. Since then I have found a dozen different uses for it. I do trim carpentry for a living, so far pretty good, it's a little under powered compared to a corded model but so handy not to string out cord that catches on everything under the sun, standard controls with variable speed trigger.

I purchased this tool recently for a project. The tool is very underpowered. Just the weight of the tool on the board you are trying to sand causes the tool to bog down. As a couple others here have stated the battery life is terrible and the tool only lasts for 5-10 minutes. I utilized dust extraction, but still material quickly stuck to one edge of the belt and it deeply scratched the board. I think this tool is unusable.
