Description

This 20V MAX XR 5-inch Brushless Cordless Random Orbital Sander comes with a 2.0Ah battery and provides the power and runtime needed to get the job done. A variable-speed dial provides ultimate speed control from 8,000 to 12,000 OPM for a variety of projects. One-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the wood sander to aid in dust collection or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors. Rubber overmold grip provides comfortable sanding. Replacement 8-hole hook-and-loop sanding pad for quick, easy paper changing.

Bought this sander to paint-prep the frames around my garage doors and the fascia boards on a large bakyard shed. Both were weather-beaten, with old flaking paint chaff plus shallow, topographical map-like areas of forever adhered, original paint on them. Since I was going to be standing on stools & ladders, often using it vertically, I sure didn't want anything heavy. I also wanted to avoid cords, since they can easily tangle and otherwise get in the way when you're not doing horizontal work. This sander takes 8 hole sanding discs that DON'T come with it. The sander's paper pad has a super velcro-like surface that immediately grabs hard and holds the sandpaper discs like superglue. This model is variable speed, and its speed button is adjacent to the power button on the hand saddle, a nice touch for max efficiency. Holding this unit against vertical surfaces for a few hours doesn't strain your muscles because it's so lightweight. The dustbag attaches/detaches easily, and does a good job of preventing a dust storm in your face. It sanded down all framing and molding quite well, adequately smoothing the stuck-on-forever areas of old paint until my touch test revealed it to be lump/bump /crevice free enough to feel confident that new primer & paint will adhere well. The unit comes with a charger and one of DeWalt's batteries; this battery took about an hour charge time for at least 1.5-2 hours run time. It's a little hard to shove the battery into its slot, and the same for removing it for charging, but I think that'll change in time.     • Can't go wrong with Dewalt
My experience with Dewalt has been great overall. I chose to stick with this line and will typically only buy Dewalt tools if I am buying battery powered. The ability to used my batteries and chargers with all tools is always great. The sander is easy to handle, easy to use and gets the job done. You can use universal round pads and they work fine. The small dust container is ok. While you still get a good amount of dust in the area, like you do with them all, you can always opt for a strong vaccum added to it while sanding which will help minimize dust. The battery lasts a decent amount of time although I do find that it is good to have a second battery ready to go for bigger jobs. I definitely recommend the dewalt sander, specially if you can find a deal with a battery and charger since you can never have enough. I have yet to encounter a Dewalt tool I am not happy with. ... show more

    • Great Little Sander
This is a slightly more complicated purchase. Bought the same sander few years ago and have used it often for my primary use of sanding home projects. Works great and provides wonderful sanded surfaces. Now we enter into another purchase that I made....the Amazon extra warranty which I also purchased. The sander started making an odd sound and then varied slightly in its RPM and eventually just 'died'. That's the reason for my 4 star rating....function ceased after about 3 years of use. It wasn't excessively tough use either....I'd say normal use, so that's not great. The good news is, the warranty is legit and my purchase was totally backed up. Sent back the old one, rec'd a refund and purchased another one. My project work continues... ;-) ... show more

I got this at a sale price that basically makes it the same price as the dewalt corded version. This DOES come with a small battery. The battery was sufficient for the jobs that I used it for though in the future I could see myself getting a spare for bigger projects. This product DOES NOT ship with sandpaper so make sure you get yourself some to use this on day one. ... show more
