  • I absolutely love Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color!
Color: 3.5NNN - Ravenna Brown Size: 12.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’ve been using it for a few months now, and it has completely transformed my hair coloring routine. The product is super easy to apply, even for someone like me who isn’t a pro at home hair coloring. What I appreciate the most is the salon-quality results. The color comes out rich and vibrant, and it doesn’t look flat or fake. It also covers grays really well, which has been a huge bonus for me. The conditioning formula leaves my hair feeling soft, shiny, and healthy, not dry or damaged like other at-home hair dyes I’ve tried. Another standout feature is that it’s ammonia-free, so there’s no overwhelming chemical smell. The included instructions and tools make the process straightforward, and I love the addition of a barrier cream and cleansing wipes to keep things tidy. The only minor drawback is the price—it’s a bit more expensive than other drugstore brands. However, the quality more than makes up for it, and I’ve saved so much by not needing salon appointments. If you’re looking for a professional-quality hair color that’s convenient to use and delivers fantastic results, I highly recommend Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color! ... show more

  • Great for curly hair. It does appear darker at first.
Color: 6NCG - Sardinia Red Size: 25.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
So I can't say enough about how much I love this brand for at home hair color! It's worth the price! I've been coloring my own hair since I was 14 and I've done it all and have tried it all. This is by FAR the best! This is my second time using this brand and I'm never going back to other store brands. First of all, it comes with everything you need. Better gloves, skin barrier, a cleansing wipe for after, and best of all a cap! Also the shampoo and conditioner is amazing and makes your hair super soft! The dye doesn't burn your scalp at all. Even darker colors for L'Oréal were burning my scalp pretty badly and destroy my hair & curl pattern for a few weeks. The smell isn't too horrible, it's definitely different, but it's from the ginseng. Also, the coloring is a bit darker after you first dye it. But after the second hair wash it does lighten up quite a bit and looks closer to the color on the box. ... show more

  • No smell, no smell, no smell - oh and great color
Color: 7NGV - Lucca Light Brown Size: 12.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have colored my own hair for a couple of decades and have always used store boxed color. I have always hared the ammonia smell. I can smell it on my hair, my pillows, and my clothes and it seems to linger for days. Madison Reed does not have that smell. I absolutely love this stuff. I have been using it for a couple of years. I re-do every 7 weeks and while I notice the fade that last week it is not too bad. I will never go back to a stinky box color again. ... show more

  • Might be great for short hair or hair not previously colored. For me? Awful.
Color: 7NCG - Genova Red Size: 12.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I used Light Golden Red, &7NCG, Genova Red. On the package, the color looked like an exact match for my original hair color. (I have just enough grey, here & there throughout my hair, to want to cover it... for now, anyway. Vanity... right? lol ) I fell in love with Madison Reed's packaging and the thoughtfulness shown in this very complete hair color kit. The messaging in it dazzled me, as well. Using the product, I didn't care for the smell of it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ammonia-based hair color products. So far, so good. In addition, I was impressed by how much hair color was included. Even with long, thick hair, I was able to cover everything from the roots to the very longest tips of my hair, and do so completely. The included shampoo and conditioner were both lavish and generous. Again, as someone with very thick hair, this was appreciated. But then, fresh from the shower, I looked in the mirror. Umm... It looked like the color coverage wasn't consistent. Not even close. Worse, when my hair was dry, the color at the top of my head was spectacular, but starting at about ear level, the color was much darker. Indoors, it looks almost black. On someone as fair-skinned as me, the effect was jarring. Suddenly, every freckle and laugh line seemed more obvious. This was NOT flattering. Oddly, the ends of my hair barely took any color at all. That was fine, because naturally colored hair is usually lighter (sun bleached) at the ends. In the accompanying photo, my head is tilted, so I'm looking up. You're seeing the top of my head as well as my back. Also, that picture was taken on a slightly overcast day, so the variations in color aren't due to extreme lighting. It looks far worse indoors, but I think the photo conveys the essense of the problem. Note: It's been a few years since I was a hair model, but I picked up a lot of hair coloring tips from the pros. So, I'm still mindful of the importance of coloring my hair thoroughly and consistently, and following package directions - to the letter - for the best results. In other words, it's not as if I smothered the top of my head with hair dye, and just loosely spread the rest of my hair with far lighter coverage. Likewise, I didn't douse the middle (now darkest) band of my hair with extra color, or omit coloring the ends, either. To me, it looks like this hair color should not be used on long, previously colored hair. I'd ask for a refund if I had anything to return to the seller, but - of course - I used the complete package. So, at best, that was a waste of $30. I'm going to wait a week so my hair has time to recover, and then I'll be using an "oops!" products to remove the Madison Reed hair color. Fingers crossed, it'll restore how my hair looked before using Madison Reed's hair color. (If that doesn't work, Plan B is to streak my hair with blonde. At worst, it'll look "artsy.") I'll agree that the Madison Reed hair color at the top of my head looks exactly as I'd hoped. It's very close to the color shown on the product's packaging. The probem is: The rest of my hair looks awful. If your hair is short - and, preferably, has never been colored before - you may love Madison Reed. For me, this was an extremely distressing experience. Fortunately, I work at home. This week, only my family will see my hair. If I go out, I'll wear a hat. Then, my hair will look oddly dark with almost blonde sun-bleaching at the ends. Short-term, I'm okay with that. I was tempted to give this product two stars because the packaging was a delight to read, and the included gloves, cap, shampoo, and conditioner were wonderful extras. However, I'm so disappointed by the product itself, I have to give this one star, and share my experience with others, so they don't make a similar mistake. ... show more

  • 5.5nnn is more of a dark brown Grey's are a lighter color even with extra time.
Color: 5.5NNN - Modena Brown Size: 12.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I bought this because it was listed as safe for allergies by the skin safe website. It is fairly gentle. I bought 5.5nnn which is supposed to be a medium brown. I have resistant greys, so I put it on 10 minutes longer and my daughter in law asked me why I dyed my hair black. After a couple of days I washed it thoroughly with LOreal everpure Shampoo and conditioner and it came out a dark brown but my grace are lighter. ... show more

  • Would purchase again.
Color: 7.5NNA - Umbria Light Brown Size: 12.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Have dyed my hair for many years using standard boxed dyes from pharmacy. Did some research about the awful chemicals and decided to try this less harmful option. First thing I noticed was no sharp odor. I had found the odor from regular dyes to be so strong it made my eyes burn. This has none of that. Found the instructions to be easy to follow and same amount of time as my usual dyes. Color is very rich and intense. Good that it definitely covered grey hairs. Bad that it came out a shade or two darker than I expected. Hair feels a little brittle and dry - no worse than usual after dyeing. I think the grey coverage is superior and love that I didn’t have to put a lot of harmful chemicals on my scalp to achieve this. ... show more
