I’ve been loyal to Arctic Fox for like a decade. I liked the brand better than Pulp Riot, which my stylist uses in the salon, so I always brought AF to my appointments and used it at home for touch-ups in between. For whatever reason, I felt pulled to branch out and try Lunar Tides recently. The reviews had me sold and I loved the shade range, so I figured, what’s the harm? I bought Cranbaby for most of my head, and Petal Pink for my money piece, and took them along with me to my appointment at the salon. My stylist had never used this brand before either, so she made sure to really saturate my hair in small sections to make sure we got even coverage. And my oh my, did it turn out like a dream. Cranbaby covered my faded purple flawlessly, but the best part of the whole experience has been how long-lasting it is for a red. Stylists and people with general knowledge of hair color know that reds are the hardest color to maintain. I fully expected this shade to fade to a pinky color before the one month mark, but it didn’t happen. I’m pleasantly surprised that I’ve finally found a red that is relatively low maintenance. I usually touch up my color at home every 4 weeks, but I went 6 weeks before I did it this time, and it wasn’t really out of necessity. Most of the color held up, it really only faded at the crown of my head where my shampoo is doing the most work. Although the floral scent of this brand isn’t as nice to me as the grape candy scent of Arctic Fox, that’s just a minor little detail that won’t stop me from repurchasing from this brand again and again. If the red holds up this nicely, I imagine the other shades will outperform AF as well. Petal Pink faded somewhat quickly, as is the nature of pastels and their lack of pigmentation, but with Cranbaby I don’t even feel the need to wash my hair in cold water to maintain my color, and that speaks volumes on the pigmentation and longevity Lunar Tides is giving me with this lovely red. I wanted to dye my hair something cute for halloween, but it ended up not working and I just dyed my whole head this orange. It was cute, very pumpkiny and bright. I wanted it to fade because I had plans to do split dye for Christmas with dark red and dark green. So I didn't use color safe shampoo or try to maintain the orange for about 7 weeks. It didn't really fade but my roots grew out. I decided to go ahead and bleach everything to get ready for the split dye, I've never had an issue getting orange out of my hair before so I wasn't worried. But the orange didn't budge. My roots were white blond and the ends were still the orange they were before the bleach. I've been doing my own hair for almost 5 years, I've never seen a color be this stubborn and ive done every color except silver and yellow. I was crushed because I had to scrap the split dye plan. So I decided to just do the dark red all over. The red should cancel the orange. It seemed to work until I washed my hair for the first time after dying it and the orange started coming back. It comes back a little more with each hair wash. My biggest issue with all of this is it looks so cool. It looks intentionally, like fire. Im really falling for this color combo but ik I'll never be able to achieve this again. Before I did this I had rainbow hair so unfortunately I had to bleach my hair a couple times to even my hair as much as possible, causing it to be brighter and more yellow than I wanted. I usually use artic fox and even when there are a little splotchy blonde parts it covers them a bit more than this did. I saturated tf put of my hair with this product and it's still a little eh. Also it's not very conditioning like I'm used to so be prepared with some leave in conditioner after dyeing. Haven't washed it yet, may or may not update Update 12/2/24: check for the pic with the greasy hair and the dog lol. it's held on way longer than anticipated. I didn't wash my hair for 7-10 days after the initial application, and then about once a week with cold water and Keep Me Vivid Shampoo and Conditioner. I even washed it twice with hot water just to see if itd fade and no lol. I still wish it was a little more blue, but it seems to be slowly fading that way. My stylist and I paired up for this toning experiment combined with minimal low light to add some dimension to my somewhat drab naturally silver hair. The crown is untouched and lilac was woven sparingly throughout with some henna low lights added to the bottom portion. No chemicals and the result is stunning, i get compliments all the time :) Toners are nice but they don't last, Lunar Tides gives a hint of tone throughout for a month now and counting. Will definitely order more for another application when this one fades. Henna fades slowly so no need to touch up low lights anytime soon ... show more
