I have the Lunyee 3018 Pro max CNC routing machine and the laser head that is an accessory for it. It works great as a CNC router and it works very well as a laser engraver. However, as I gained skills I discovered that it is time consuming to switch between the router spindle and the laser. Also I wanted to do larger laser projects. The Lunyee 10 watt 4040 laser engraver is the solution. It arrived in a sturdy box but I was surprised at how light the box was. Once I considered that there is no motorized Z axis and the dynamic load of the laser module is very light, this made sense. The box was very well packed and all parts were in pristine order and accounted for. Assembly took about an hour but that is because I am really picky about getting things perfect. Once assembled both the X and the Y axis were less than 1mm out of square. Some very minor tweaking had both perfect. Since I had been using the laser on the 3018 machine I already had the necessary software (supplied - some is free and some is trial version) on my laptop but it did need some minor reconfiguration to accommodate the larger work area and the greater speed of this engraver. I like to start out on a new machine with cheap wood (3mm Baltic Birch) and a small project just to make sure everything is really working. I have included pictures of the result. There were only two components -- the "picture" of the tree and a circle set to cut through the wood. With very conservative laser settings for each component, the tree burned about a fourth of the way into the wood and the cut out circle took two passes. The project took about 7 minutes. I could have cranked the power up and gone faster, but I just wanted to make certain everything worked. I do use a large (but very inexpensive) aquarium compressor for "air assist" and it really does keep the smoke staining of the surface of the wood down to almost nothing. Also, the bottom of this machine is open so you should not put it directly on a good surface or you will burn into that good surface the first time you cut out a project. I use a honeycomb bed for the wood and once I get everything completely set up I will put it all on top of some sheet metal. Comments: Lunyee has a great website with lots of videos that are very well produced. However, if you don't like to put things together then look closely at those videos before you order. I grew up with Erector Sets so I love the process. Also, I have asked the Lunyee help team a number of questions and I have always gotten an accurate and concise answer within a day. The media could not be loaded. I took advantage of the AMAZON coupon and bought the unit for $230 + taxes. I wanted an engraver but was unsure which vendor to pick since there are a lot of them selling what appears to be the same hardware. I have had excellent support from LUNYEE on the 3018 Ultra CNC router I bought about a month ago, and so I decided to give it a chance. I got the 4040 with the 10W optical laser. Assembly took 1 hour and 20 minutes because it was done with my 10-year-old daughter, who now considers this to be her own. The biggest challenge was finding a .rar reader to unlock the files on the supplied USB stick, which was eventually located. We used laserGRBL, and the default settings just worked without any changes. I include here some videos of the engraver running and I have to say that it is powerful! To do grayscale on plywood, I had to drop the power to 30%. It is very easy to go right through the workpiece at high power. Very impressive! looking forward to using it on other materials, especially marking stainless steel. I was able to unscrew the pump fitting and replace it with a 4mm one that I had lying around, which allowed me to connect it to my airbrush pump with a Teflon tube (originally used on a 3D printer). Worked perfectly! seems to reduce the charring, but we will need to do more experiments. Motors are silent, way quieter than the CNC 3018 Ultra, and I am told that I can use the laser as is to replace the spindle on the 3018, which is my ultimate goal when I can pry this away from my daughter. This is one of the best laser engraver I had to use so easy to asemble, I was extremely impressed with is ease of operation and results. so I was really looking and comparing results. So far, it has done well. I have mine setup by my garage entrance with a fan blowing the smoke outside.

The media could not be loaded. Assembly of this unit is a little challenging. Instructions are located on a USB stick. The files are RAR files. I had trouble unzipping these as my computer didn't recognize them. The instructions are lacking and you get to the last page of mounting the Laser. That is the end of the assembly instructions. No information on how the main cable is attached. We finally figured that out. I have never worked with a laser cutting machine before. So maybe if you knew what you were doing it might make more sense. I downloaded the design and cutting software direct from Lightburn and laser GRBL. Being new to this I wasn't sure which program would be easier to use. Watched a few YouTube tutorials. The programs recognized the cutter with no problem. Made my first item following the tutorial for Lightburn. All in all, I think this is a good entry level cutting machine. Wished there was a better manual for assembly and startup. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I bought LUNYEE 4040 10W laser cutter/engraver, but received 5.5W model instead of 10W model. I contacted seller, seller sent me 10W laser module with extra power source and wrote "keep 5.5w laser module". Assembly took an hour. I was not able to use provided goggles (too narrow for my face with glasses), so I ordered other googles. This is my first laser cutter/engraver. I watched youtube video from Diego, author of LaserGRBL , it was enough to start. I was able to engrave my cat's photo on the included small piece of plywood from the first attempt, see video. ... show more
