  • Works so well... I bought a third!
This is my third xTool laser, and it has raised the capability of what my little business can produce; making my pint glasses take half the time to make and custom wood signs cut so much more consistently! I've been using lasers, both professionally and personally, for about eight years, and this is by far the most well built hobby laser I have used. xTool has done listened carefully since I bought my first D1 a year ago and has made huge improvements; the wiring harness is better fit to the machine, the setup directions come in a very detailed packet, they've added limit switches to the Pro, and the laser module shield comes ready to install air assist. There is a bit of a learning curve on the XCS software, but for a proprietary product, it is leagues ahead in terms of functionality compared to most beginner laser software and they are continuing to improve it with customer feedback! I personally prefer to use Lightburn for the enhanced control but XCS is a great stepping stone to get users comfortable with how the laser works. I have gotten to watch the D1 community grow on Facebook, and while the negative remarks will always gain traction, xTool has really hit the nail on the head with the D1 Pro 20W rotary bundle and their customer service. If you ever need any help, come find me and a huge resource of other users in the xTool D-series Official Group on Facebook! ... show more

  • Simple, easy-to-assemble design. Works great! Knocked off one star for software.
I bought this item for a very specific purpose; cutting flatwork for guitar pickups from vulcanized fiber board. It is very effective for this application, I’m totally satisfied with the speed and precision when cutting from vector files. Assembly took maybe 45 minutes from unboxing to hooking it to a laptop. Instructions are clear pictorial illustrations, which I guess helps keep translation to a minimum when exporting to many countries. There is a little vagueness regarding connecting and setting up the software, you have to search out the online instructions. I should qualify my remarks regarding ease of assembly in that I have a lot of experience with kits and home-brew motion control, so a total newbie might find it less straightforward, but it’s by far the best designed, highest value machine I’ve had. I’m a member of a Facebook group dedicated to this exact model, and the folks there are exceptionally helpful, so I think almost anyone should be able to get it working satisfactorily if they get stuck. It comes without air-assist, which most people end up adding. It helps keep the optical parts clean and also clears smoke away from the nozzle for cleaner cuts. Proper ventilation is a must. I’m only a few days in with using it; I’ve cut the fiber sheet mentioned above, thin wood (approx 1/8” thick) and experimented with plywood up to 1/2” thick. It does great on the thin woods… thicker is tricky; I got the best result by keeping the power fairly low and going fast with several passes. Using maximum power at a slow speed caused the material to ignite. Not good! Also have experimented with engraving graphics in insulated stainless steel tumblers using the rotary attachment. (powder coated black is all I’ve tried) still figuring it out but results are encouraging so far. The xtool XCS software (free download) is sufficient to get started but any serious user will probably find it limited. The XCS is pretty basic, and I’ve had issues with locating engraved images where I want them on the rotary fixture. I will be “upgrading” to a more capable package like Lightburn soon. Software aside, however, I am very pleased with this purchase, and can recommend it highly. ... show more
