  • Loving it
Size: xTool P2S Color: Gray
A huge upgrade from my Glowforge Pro. It's demonstrably better in every way. * XCS software is excellent and consistently improving. I find little need for Inkspace now. Far superior to the web-based Glowforge experience (and I have a Premium subscription). * Rotary and conveyor accessories add significant versatility (and were not available on my Glowforge). * 12" x 24" working space (actually 305mm x 600mm). Can handle 3m long material with the conveyor but requires additional expansion kits. I find myself using the conveyor a lot more than I initially thought because it gives you much more layout flexibility. * AP2 is fantastic. Automatically controlled by the P2S and there is no odor even when cutting acrylic. * Fire suppression system adds a lot of peace of mind. This was very easy to set up. xTool got the plug-and-play experience right with this accessory. * 3D mapping is pretty close to magic. * The material test array function has saved me tons of time figuring out the score, engrave, and cut settings for new material. Especially important as I virtually never use xTool materials. (The xTool material settings do give you a great starting point, though, assuming there is one). The lack of this function was one of my top 3 issues with the Glowforge experience. * The camera alignment using the close-up view is perfect. I drew a pencil line across multiple parts, aligned it using the cameras, and it literally cut right down the middle of the pencil line. Blew me away! * No calibration was needed out of the box - the gantry was square and the laser mirrors were all properly aligned. A few nits: * You must remove the back section of the lid to add the water and antifreeze (COs laser coolant). Given this is a mandatory first step it should be easier to remove. I had visions of damaging my laser before I even had a chance to use it! Thankfully that did not happen. * The slats make it look more like a commercial machine, but the honeycomb grill is much more practical for small projects. It should be the default. * The accessories require you to take things apart and reassemble them. As an engineer, I don't mind, but I see how some could be put off by this. The rotary attachment is the most egregious in this respect. * Inkscape still does a better job than XCS at tracing raster images. However, that's about all I use Inkscape for now, whereas it used to be my primary SVG creation and editing tool. * Using the gantry does allow smoke and fumes to escape capture by the AP2. This is potentially significant. I set the fan to 100% when using the gantry but that just makes the emissions issue a little bit better. Overall I am very happy with the P2S as well as the AP2, RA2, conveyor, and the fire suppression system. I've used it daily since receiving it with no bad experiences. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a CO2 laser of this this type. ... show more

  • Huge, Heavy and powerful craft/hobby laser cutter, engraver and etcher
I bought this package with the riser base, feeder, spindle and fire suppression bundle. So far I have been able to watch a great deal of how-to videos and get the results that I am after. The learning curve is not bad and you can either just use it with very cheap files found off of craft sites or you can dive deep and use the new Vector graphics to create your own works in the software that the company provides. If you are into other photo editing software you can do the work there and just import the file over. The layout software is easy to use and you can believe the videos online when they show you how easy it is to align your graphics to your work piece. A bit louder than I would have thought and you will still smell/see some smoke if you use it for hours, but it has not tripped any of my air quality sensors in my workshop yet so it is no worse than when the sander scorches a little or the saw blade burns your wood a bit. ... show more

  • My honest opinion
My shipment arrived damaged but Xtool Customer Support was very diligent in Replacing the parts. This is a very good production machine And has really helped get out high-quality orders. Excellent for cutting and engraving. We’ve had a lot of fun with circular engraving! I would like to see the option of changing how the engraving fills, I would like to do an island full instead of just lines but we are still learning the little features that it has. I really appreciate how they are always updating the software and bringing out more features. I would recommend this product. ... show more

  • Not ready for Prime Time
Size: xTool P2 Color: Gray
I recently purchased this product primarily for hobby use, complementing my existing Creality Falcon 40 watt diode laser. I was looking for an upgrade in terms of capacity, ease of use, and capability. One notable aspect of this laser system is its unique control format. Unlike many other systems that adhere to the GRBL standard, this one operates on what seems to be a proprietary system. This is somewhat akin to the difference between Apple and Android ecosystems. The primary control is through the brand's own software, which, while straightforward and capable of basic designs, has its limitations and is, in many areas, somewhat buggy. It excels in certain areas, such as engraving on curved surfaces (up to 45 degrees), thanks to its movable Z-axis – a feature not commonly found in lasers of this type. The product is advertised as compatible with Lightburn, a standard in the industry. While basic functions are accessible with Lightburn, the integration doesn't extend to the more advanced features of the laser. This is an area where I feel there's room for improvement. Enhanced collaboration between the developers of this product and Lightburn could potentially unlock greater capabilities. The machine itself boasts several impressive features. Its movable Z-axis, for instance, opens up possibilities for laser sculpting and 3D effects, setting it apart from competitors. The build quality is excellent – it feels robust and professional. Unboxing it was a delight, reflecting the care put into its packaging. I also invested in all the available accessories, including the riser base, extended rail and conveyor system, and rotary attachment, which are all well-crafted. To draw an analogy, using this product feels like having an iPhone 15 but with an operating system akin to that of an iPhone 2. The hardware is undoubtedly well-made and engineered with potential for future excellence, but the current software experience doesn't fully tap into the device's capabilities. At the time of writing this review, I am considering the option of switching to a system with a more standard, open-source control system that offers full compatibility with Lightburn. This consideration stems from my desire to fully utilize the advanced features available in modern laser systems. ... show more
