  • Works to keep fumes from getting in the house, exhaust to outside.
The xTool Enclosure has proven to be an indispensable addition to my workspace, providing a seamless blend of functionality and practicality. With my addition of internal lighting, this enclosure has truly transformed my work environment. The enclosure itself is thoughtfully designed, offering a spacious interior that accommodates various tools and equipment. The durable construction and sleek aesthetics ensure a professional appearance while maintaining sturdiness. The added internal lighting has taken this enclosure to another level. The well-placed lighting illuminates every corner, making it easy to work with precision, even in dimly lit conditions. Another notable feature is the enclosure's noise reduction capabilities. It effectively dampens the sound produced by various tools, creating a quieter and more comfortable working environment. • Works well enough
I have a 5W D1 that I mostly use for engraving wood - no cutting. Occasionally I will engrave a ceramic tile. I’m a hobbyist and don’t put many hours on the machine (use it a couple times a week tops). I’ve been running my D1 in the garage during summer with two doors open to manage smoke and fumes, but that is not viable for winter. I wanted to move the machine into the basement, but have no working windows to vent through and didn’t want to bother with drilling new 4” holes to put in a new vent. My work area is near an old and unused central vac vent that is about 2” gray PVC. I took a chance on this enclosure with concerns that the fan wouldn’t be powerful enough and the 3”ish hose would not work in my situation. The supplied hose has about a 3” inner diameter (a little over 3”) and fits over a 2” white PVC coupling with some wiggle room that I sealed with duct tape. The 2” coupling is a little big for the 2” gray vent pipe, but close enough that the duct tape sealed it up. Before burning anything with the laser, I ran the fan to be sure air was moving through the vent. I checked outside, and the grass under the vent was moving from the air flow (vent is > 16” above the grass) and I could feel a lot of air moving. I burned a few items (pine, maple, and cardboard) and noticed no smoke exiting the enclosure. There is some smoke smell that gets out, but only noticeable within a couple feet of the enclosure and where the tape is sealing up the vent connections. I haven’t had a chance to do any tiles yet, so I don’t know how well that odor is contained. Overall, I am pleased with the fan and vent set up for my situation, but if you desire no odor to escape, the fan doesn’t accomplish that for me. It works well enough that I don’t plan to move the laser into the garage anymore though. The enclosure fits around the frame snugly. Without risers, the left side of the frame blocks much of the way inflow vent. The enclosure is not airtight, however, so there is other air that flows in. I don’t know if it’s balanced flow though. The enclosure is sturdy. It does smell like a smokehouse inside after a few burns. The inside probably needs to be wiped down occasionally to remove buildup. Some minor complaints is that once you extend the exhaust hose, it doesn’t go back to being collapsed. I don’t need it fully extended, but it doesn’t stay collapsed when I push it back together. Ends up being extra length for the air to move. The fan does not have a grill on it, so it would be possible for fingers to get in it while running (if feeling around on the inside if the enclosure for some reason). The plastic blades are dull and would not do any damage though. Also, it would be nice if the lid had some mechanism to hold it open. Not a big deal though. The biggest complaint is the holes for mounting the fan. They weren’t perfectly aligned with the holes in the fan and exhaust port, so it took a bit to get them in. Also, the holes were drilled small, so the screws had to be threaded through the holes in the enclosure, which made the misalignment that much more annoying. Eventually I got them through without having to enlarge the holes or drill new ones. I did install the fan backwards initially and didn’t notice until it was turned on and air wasn’t blowing out. I’m not sure if I missed something in the instructions or on the fan to indicate installation orientation, but that will be something to watch for. Overall, the enclosure so far does what I need it to do: keeps laser light mostly enclosed and away from wandering eyes (although I can’t guarantee the window blocks the harmful light), it doesn’t allow any noticeable smoke into the room, and manages most of the smell. I have no regrets in the purchase after having it a couple weeks. ... show more

  • Keeps Air Clean
This is the best accessory you can get for your laser. It keeps your work area and air space clean and free of smoke and irritants. I have asthma this makes a world of difference. There is a fan attached to the enclosure and a long vent tube. This is a must have especially if you have children, animals or customers that come into your shop. No more worrying about making sure no one is around while running your laser or making sure everyone has safety glasses It has a large viewing window that has a yellow tint so your not exposed to the blue light of the laser. There is a cut out where your power button and plugs are. It’s high enough to use risers with the rotary. Assembly is very easy, and it fits nice and snug around the laser. There is only one con and that is it’s very dark when looking through the window adding a little LED light would be very beneficial. I could go in and on about all the great features but I’ll stop here. ... show more

  • Mostly Functional
A lot of the enclosures for various lasers cost a small function, but with the various Amazon deals and such, this one is fairly affordable. But, there are a few things to be aware of before purchasing it. First, it doesn't have a bottom -- so you'll need to make sure that your laser is on a safe, level surface with a laser-proof bottom. It's also a little bit bigger than your laser, of course, which means that if your laser is in a tight spot mine barely fit on the desk), this is going to be tough to use. The bigger caveat, though, is that if you're constantly needing to change your laser height, this thing will drive you crazy. The legs are REALLY tough to access, and if you're going from 1-3 risers all the time (I do), you may want to invest in a different housing for it. Overall, if you're only changing your laser height once in a while, and it's on a good surface, this is an affordable, tight, and very professional looking enclosure -- it worked great for me, except when changing heights. Would recommend it! ... show more
