Description

The Classic Aeron Chair was designed for Herman Miller by designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. Almost immediately, it was added to the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. This now-iconic chair broke every convention in office chair design when it was introduced. Instead of foam padding, its seat and backrest were made of a breathable woven suspension membrane called Pellicle, which eliminates pressure and heat buildup as you sit. This model also features PostureFit Sacral Support another industry first to keep the seated spine in healthful alignment and combat fatigue. Building on the designers' belief that everyone deserves a great chair, Classic Aeron comes in three sizes small (A), medium (B), and large (C) allowing it to fit a wider range of people than any office chair. I had an Aeron Chair at work, and then I brought it home during the Pandemic. After 17 years (early 2007-late 2023), the seat support broke, but it was actually still functional (and fairly comfortable). Since I was retiring at the end of 2023, I had to return this chair anyway. Knowing how much I loved the Aeron Chair, I pursued this option through Amazon, which is less than half as expensive as a new Aeron Chair purchased through Herman Miller. I knew that the chair was probably refurbished, but it looks and feels as good as a new chair. Keep in mind, that the new chair arrives in a box with some assembly and no written instructions. There are plenty of assembly videos on youtube.com that help guide you through the minimal assembly. If you love the Aeron Chair, I definitely recommend this approach. UPDATE AND WARNING: A few months after purchasing this chair (i.e., early 2024), the support bolt broke, similar to what happened with my original office chair. Only thing, is that didn't happen until 15 years after I first got it. The one I bought for myself lasted only a few months. Hello Amazon, I love Herman Miller brand, specifically this Chair, I bought a brand new one directly from the brand and now I took a risk buying this used unit from this seller. This was a gift for me to use in my office. It came in a nice carton box, well protected. After the unboxing, I assembled with the help of the office guy without any issue. I noticed that the armrests were shaking and the pads had some damage. The armrest caught my attention and reported this. The seller sent a new pair of armrest pads. The office guy replaces those, they look beautiful. But the shaking issue was still there, they told me to return it first but to pay for the box and shippi, after they told me that I could replace some internal clips they sent a video. When I was trying to understand that video I noticed paint issues ( check the pictures attached to this review) reported it and the seller sent me some clips and a used spray can. The office guy told me that he couldn’t do that job, I found someone to do it for $200 ( clip replacement and paint job) the seller refused to refund me that money. Today I spent more than 30 minutes with Amazon on the phone to figure out that my only option is to file a claim and wait 7 business days. In conclusion, if you ordered clean the used chair and check everything. If you haven’t ordered please avoid buying a problem instead buy a super nice chair from someone else. ... show more

    • Broke Down & Spent The Bucks, Glad I Did!

After agonizing about spending this much on a office chair, I finally broke down and did it. I work from home and after years of suffering with the latest $100-150 special from the big box store that I'd replace every two years, I just did it and I'm so glad I did. I selected a chair that came directly from Amazon itself. This is not to say anything negative about third party sellers, and I have purchased from many over the years without issue but I just wanted that extra bit of assurance when spending this kind of money. The chair came with the warranty info and I immediately registered it. Glad to have the 12 year safety net in case something goes wrong. The setup was minimal since the chair was assembled and I pulled it straight from the huge box it came in. I think I had to put the back support on which took all of two minutes. It was very refreshing after the usual "put tab A into slot B" nonsense with cheapo chairs. The truth is that I don't notice the chair at all, that might seem weird to say about something that cost over $800 (I got this on one of the rare 15% off sales). However, that is just the point. No more back pain, no more noticing how uncomfortable I am....now I just feel comfortable and can sit at my desk much longer (yes, I know it's not good to sit at your desk too long). I realize everyone can't justify doing this or afford it...it was a stretch for me and the most I've ever spent for any office furniture. However, I have my own business and I am a solopreneur so I have to keep my #1 employee (me) productive and healthy. I say definitely give it a go if you can if you are looking for a chair that you will sit on for long periods of time. So, rather than spending $150 every other year and investing as much or more I recommend just biting the bullet and invest in something in which you'll spend a huge amount of time. Look at it this way, with the 12-year warranty it should last you at least that long. If you amortize the investment over that may years its not that bad. Happy sitting! ... show more

    • Comfortable, discount over retail makes up for minor flaws

This chair hold me in just the right heights and postures that I need for various home tasks including PC work, gaming, and hobby work. The support given by the seat netting is on the firm side so sometimes it feels like my rear is falling asleep, but only when sitting in certain positions. Keep this in mind and try to find an Aeron you can sit in for a good 10-15 minutes before buying if you think this might be an issue for you. The chair, being a refurbished unit, arrived partially assembled. The PostureFit adjustment cable was still threaded through to the backrest, and this made the backrest difficult to reinsert into the frame so I could screw it in. I had to look up the assembly instructions for the PostureFit add-on online in order to figure out how to take it apart and refit it after attaching the backrest. All that said, this came at a pretty steep discount and everything is otherwise functional and nondamaged, so I'm happy with my purchase. (They don't add much padding to the shipping box though, so things may have gone differently if the package had taken a longer or rougher journey...) ... show more

My apologies to the seller for not trusting a 3rd party seller on Amazon.
