  • Works okay
Even after tightening the nut hard to expand the spindle, the sleeve will slip some while using on my drill press if I put moderate pressure on the piece I'm sanding.

  • Be informed before you buy
Don't be put off by the headline too much, I'll be as honest as I can. I just received this today, and thought I'd try it's weakest link, the 1/2" spindle. Like Dave said, back in Aug of 2019, the 1/2" spindle's shaft bent as soon as rotation was put to it. But this is only one of four, although I really could have used this one... The rest of them have a much larger shaft to them, so I really don't foresee these bending the same way. The problem with the 1/2" could have been solved by using a larger screw for the shaft, which is something I may end up doing, drilling out the spindle rubber and using a bigger screw. Damn, bet you guys over at Big Horn wish you had me on your development crew!! Anyway, if you don't have a great need for a 1/2" spindle, or if you don't minf goiung through tthe effort, good set, but knowing what I know now.... I wouldn't buy this again, nor will I buy anything from ToolOrbit again. The beginning of this is observation, the last paragraph was my review, my comment about not buying from ToolOrbit again... was my truth. ... show more

  • Room for improvement
Gets the job done. The center shafts is not fixed in the collar, which makes it hard to tighten, to hold the sandpaper tube. Would have been easy for the manufacturer to fix the shaft in the collar. The sandpaper included is of low quality; gaps in the seams with some glue squeezed out. Also all the sandpapers are quite course, some finer grit would be nice. ... show more

  • Sanding Drum Set - Works best in a drill press
Purchased this for rough sanding inside curves on wood projects. Works great when used with a drill press.

  • Not very long.
Drums are not really long enough to do most jobs.

  • The next best thing to a spindle sander
I paid $18 for this. This kit is fantastic if you don't have a spindle sander. Put it on your drill press, set it to a high RPM, move the table to the side, and go to town. Especially the larger drums are remarkably effective. Keep in mind that this is $18 for about 5 drums and a bunch of sanding sleeves. The quality is very good for that price point. This is obviously not the same as an oscillating spindle sander that costs hundreds of dollars. If you want that, the Ridgid EB4424 is the "industry standard" for a decent amateur-grade spindle sander. If that's not good enough, Laguna makes some nice professional-grade spindle sanders, but I doubt you'd be looking at this kit if you were in that market :-) The only downside of this kit is that the arbor of the smallest drum is very thin, and it's pretty easy to snap it if you push against it too hard. The kit is cheaper than a set of replacement sanding sleeves, so I just buy a whole new kit when the old one is worn out. ... show more

  • As advertised
I drilled an oversized hole in a piece of scrap wood and attached the second-to-largest drum to my drill press. Strapped the wood scrap to the drill press plate and locked the drill down so the drum protruded slightly into the hole. Then I could lay my workpiece on top of the scrap and sand to my hearts content. It worked quite well. ... show more

  • Works
Well it works. The only issue I ran into was the secure nut unscrewing itself while sanding, even though it was cinched tight. Over tightening it took care of that. If you have a vice to put your drill in, it makes it so much easier to use the drill as a sander. I used this kit to shape leather heel stacks due to resoling my boots. ... show more
