I was so excited when I got my popcorn machine that I didn't even inspect it first. The popcorn tasted incredible just like actual theater popcorn. The one little thing I didn't like about the making process was that the "HEAT LAMP" gave almost no heat off. No more than an actual element light bulb would. After only one use and very happy with a taste of my popcorn I began to clean it. Upon cleaning it I found many little defects including cellophane over the decorative checkered pattern witch when peeled pulled off some of the white checkers which after seeing that I noticed they were not even correctly applied. Also they were pits and small cracks from the inside of a glass about where the popcorn tray would be. I'm not sure if they were caused from the heat of the fresh popcorn or if they were there prior. I am concerned with the little crack that is there but not too concerned being that it's mostly cosmetic. It seems I'll call while the chief of my complaints are mostly about the Cosmetic conditions of the machine the performance of it was excellent after a two-minute preheat 5 minutes after inserting the kernels and oil the popcorn began to pop immediately understand why you. While the heat lamp gave off no heat the popcorn did still have a theater taste thanks to the oil and salts used. If the heat lamp had worked The Taste would have been better allowing the popcorn to dry immediately just like it does at the movie theater. The next day the popcorn that was left smelt incredible. After drying and allowing the salt to soak in it gave it the exact same taste and smell as a movie theater! I had high expectations for this product as I thought it was completely American made. However after finding out it's actually made in China I'm not surprised with a cosmetic quality. If I could I would give this product three and a half Stars instead four stars, but since the taste of the popcorn was so great and clean the machine is so easy I'll go ahead and round up to a 4-star rating. ... show more

I purchased this machine and truly enjoyed it. I read A LOT of reviews on different machines and opted for this one because of its positive reviews. After about 10 uses, I found a screw in my popcorn. As I inspected, I discovered it came from the roof of the machine. I thought I could screw it back in, but it wouldn't "catch" on anything. I also noticed another screw coming out. Sadly, I was just barely outside of my 30 day purchase window from Amazon. I have contacted the company and will update my review based on their response. It could be that I got a lemon, or it could be an issue with overall quality. I should say that the machine still works, though who knows what came loose and how being loose will affect its functionality in the long run. Hopefully the company will replace the machine as the warranty states. Before the issue, I would have given the machine 5 stars. As far as functionality, it worked great, and I was generally pleased with it. For the price I paid, I wasn't expecting a high quality metal machine, and I didn't get one. The machine is plastic all around, and the kettle seems nicely constructed (which is the part that you really need to be well-made for a lasting machine). The amount of popcorn it produces is perfect for my wife and me, though you'd probably want to make several batches for more than 2 people. My recommendation would be to use coconut oil and popcorn salt - tastes very similar to theater popcorn! Delicious! **UPDATE** The company got back with me in a reasonable amount of time (later in the day) and emailed directions on how to take the lid of the machine off without damaging anything. What I found when I took it off was that one of the screws was completely missing (there are supposed to be 4 screws holding in the motor). The missing screw did not have a spare nut in the housing, so my guess is simply poor craftsmanship. I contacted the company again requesting that an extra screw and nut be sent. **2ND UPDATE** The "fix" Great Northern sent was helpful. Basically you use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the front logo of the machine (do this at the base of the logo piece so as not to damage it). Then remove two screws that are revealed, and finally use the flathead screwdriver to pry off the lid (again, be careful). Once inside, you can clearly see how the screws hold down the motor. GN sent me replacement screws upon my request because one was missing. I haven't had a chance to go to a hardware store to buy a lock washer to keep the nut from coming loose - it seems like this could be a problem in the future. I've probably used the machine 3 dozen plus times. The popcorn still tastes awesome and the machine runs pretty well! I clean the kettle every 3-4 poppings as suggested, and it hasn't had any problems beyond what I've shared here. I still only give it 3 stars due to the quality issue I mentioned. ... show more
