I have been really pleased with the Skybasic digtal microscope. Its WiFi and USB connections make it super easy to connect and pair with both my smartphone and computer. I use it to inspect my house plants for pests and I can clearly view and identify most of them. Here are some things I noted while using it: -It takes a little practice to get it to focus, but other than that it's a great little microscope. -It connects to my phone with ease. -Battery life is satisfactory -You can adjust the lighting. -Screencaps/recordings can be taken directly on the microscope (more difficult to do because pressing the button can mess up your focus), OR on the app (much easier considering you don't have to mess with the buttons on the microscope). My only complaints are- -The resolution isn't the best, but that is expected of a $30 microscope. -The microscope's built-in wifi connection turns off your primary wifi when in use. -The stand is wonky. I rarely use it, but this requires me to have an ultra steady hand to keep the microscope in focus. (I wish it were built better and could be adjusted vertically.) ... show more

The software is a little janky, but this is super easy to use out of the box and works very well for minute electronics work and just entertaining the kids with some education thrown in. I'm reviewing this with respect to the price, and for the price it's really quite a nice microscope. Don't think for a second it will approach 1000x, and I deducted a star for the blatant lie. I don't know what the magnification is, but I'd guess around 40x, which is what I expected when I bought it for my son. I also deducted a star for the WiFi setup. The microscope is an access point, and you need to connect your phone to its WiFi, so you lose access to the Internet. When you're done, you switch back. I just dedicated an old phone to it to avoid switching. The picture quality and ease of use are quite good. If you need to look at bugs, tiny solder joints, or a splinter, it works fine. I prefer a loupe like the Kingscope LED Illuminated Loupe as it's easier, but it won't take photos. If you want to see diatoms and amoebas in pond water or cheek cells, it won't work. ... show more

Christmas is almost here, and I have been on the lookout for a good gift for my nephew. He is in 4th grade and is very intelligent for his age. I always try to find gifts that are challenging, educational, and fun. This Wi-Fi Digital Microscope hits all the marks. I can’t wait to see his excitement when he opens this up. (I know that he will love this because I have been playing with it myself!) This is very easy to setup: just charge the microscope, download the app from the app store, connect your phone to the microscope’s Wi-Fi. Couple tips here – you need to connect to the Wi-Fi that the microscope exposes - it is not Bluetooth. Also, I noticed that the Wi-Fi connection did not appear if the microscope is connected to a PC’s USB port. After charging and setup is complete – your all set. I have an Android phone and after charging the microscope, I easily connected it wirelessly connected to my phone. This is great because you can it anywhere – you can use it outside while exploring and get good closeups of insects and plants. This also comes with a stand that you can attach the microscope to so that the picture is stable and not bouncing around.
