Description

The AmScope SM-4TZ-144A professional trinocular stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, two Barlow lenses, and a double-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-90x. The trinocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope comes with 0.5x and 2.0x Barlow lenses that can be added to the objective to increase the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance, while a Barlow lens with a magnification greater than 1.0 increases the magnification and reduces the working distance. High- eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected. The removable 144-bulb LED ring light has four separate zones to independently control light intensity and direction. The ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens, and shadow-free illumination. A rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on a control box to speed adjustments. The ring has a 2-1/2" (64mm) inside diameter and a 4" (100mm) outside diameter. It has a 100,000-hour life span and a 110V-240V variable power supply. The microscope has a double-arm boom stand that enables users to position the microscope head on all three axes (X, Y, and Z). Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stand has 20" double arms, and a 30" overall length. The pillar is 17" and the focus rack has a 3" diameter. The solid cast-steel base is 2 x 8-1/4 x 10-1/4 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).SpecificationsHeadTrinocularMagnification range3.5x-90xZoom objective power 0.7x-4.5xEyepieces (DIN, 30mm)WH10x20mm high-eyepointTrinocular portC- Mount or 23mmField of view2-1/2"Optical working distanceUp to 8"Microscope standDouble-arm boom standHead movementX-, Y-, and Z-axesIllumination typeEpiscopic (reflected)Light sourceFour-zone 144-bulb LED ring light with rheostatPower110V-240V Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. • Great microscope
Use this for soldering smd components with the .5x barlow and its great for 0402 and smaller. Microscope does tip when pushed on when fully extended but falls back into place. Could use a slightly heavier base.

  • Great hobby scope!
I purchased this for my hobbies in geology and archaeology and it has been outstanding - with a couple of caveats. This microscope has no stage, and many of my specimens are too small to see without raising them to the lens, so I had to solve for a workable stage that I could set rocks and other hard sharp objects on. I ended up using a small laboratory jack (Sold on Amazon as well) for the stage allowing me to put a specimen on it and raise it to the approximate required level, and then using the microscope for the final adjustments. This has worked out perfectly. I read about the horizontal rails on a similar model becoming pitted due to being undersized for the bearings rolling against them. With this in mind, I always carefully apply upward force to the heavy end before rolling it and have seen no pitting. No sense taking any chances - I want this microscope to last. The lens are perfect for my hobbies, and the ability to zoom is especially useful. The light source is really useful as well - it is bright and you can adjust the direction of the light by turning off some of the LEDs. The unit is incredibly big and heavy - I didn't realize just how big and heavy until I assembled it and then decided to move it. It was too long to fit in the appointed spot in my lab, but luckily because it will turn every which way, I ended up sitting it up sideways instead of longways and it works fine. You will have no problem with the unit accidentally moving (unless of course the table its on collapses!) as it is very heavy. I purchased this unit with the idea of someday attaching a camera, but have not done so as yet so I can't speak to that function. Movements are all smooth and have a professional feel to them. Overall this has been a wonderful purchase with one small hitch... You must assemble the unit from several parts - and the manual that came with my unit did not apply to the microscope I purchased. Weird. Most of the assembly was straight forward and being a man (I hate to ask for help) I finally figured out the few odd attachments you must make. Overall it was a fun puzzle to solve, but most people would likely prefer to either receive the correct assembly instructions or look them up online. It took about 30 minutes to assemble (and most of that was scratching my head over 1 part). ... show more

  • Quite decent
I didn't realize how nice a microscope you could get for so little money. This unit does not feel flimsy. The base is HEAVY, and very hard to tip. There are lots of adjustments. You can move the head in any direction, including pointing it sideways. It's reasonably easy to slide around. Optically, it seems to be great. I haven't used a $5k top brand microscope, so I can't be sure that they aren't better. But this one is extremely useful. The only optical quality complaints I've got are that you need to keep your head in just the right position. Move your head much and you can't see anything. Also, when you're zooming in the depth of field is extremely shallow. Only the top of a surface mount resistor is in focus! The bottom of it is blurry. (I know that this is a very common characteristic of optical assemblies; maybe the more expensive ones are just like this too...) The "3.5x to 90x zoom" is perhaps a bit misleading. The zoom control goes from 0.7 to 4.5, and the eyepieces are 10x. That means that you get 7x to 45x. In addition, there are front add-on lenses in the box, 0.5x and 2x. With the 0.5x you get 3.5x to 22.5x, and with the 2x you get 14x to 90x. You can't actually get 3.5x to 90x without unscrewing one of those lenses, and removing the LED light assembly and re-attaching it. I haven't used the trinocular port with a camera yet. You need some sort of adaptor with optics for that to work. Also, there is a slider to switch between the trinocular port and the left eyepiece. You lose the left eye when you use the camera. The LED control box works. It's not top quality, the text is low quality silk screen, but the buttons feel solid and have a good click when you press them. Overall, I'm happy with this microscope. I can't compare it to any other because I really haven't used any others. But my soldering is now much better than it used to be. I can examine each solder joint carefully and see what it looks like. ... show more

  • Unit fogged up internally and cannot be cleared.
I like these units very much. i bought three of them for my electronics assembly shop. This last one seems to be suffering from a failed seal which lets humidity into the scope. My window for customer support just closed, as I bought this back in June of this year. I am hoping someone from the vendor will notice this review and possibly try and address the issue? ... show more

  • Works great
Setup was easy. I've used this on many projects and repairs now. Also great for reading part numbers off ICs No slop in the slide bearings. I would like to see a thrust bearing on the main swivel so the two parts do not wear out. All around I recommend this scope
