  • Email in booklet for APK for Android 10! Its fixed! .. ORIGINAL: Great addition to Homeschool
Color: Gray
READ ME! (06/11/2020) UPDATE #2: Back to 4 stars 😊 ... I emailed the address provided in the booklet and they gave me an apk file that fixed it! It works on Android 10!! Definitely happier! UPDATE: (06/10/2020) I CHANGED FROM 4 STARS TO 2 STARS BECAUSE EXTERNAL CAMERAS DO NOT WORK WITH ANDROID 10. BE WARNED. GOOGLE/ANDROID IS AT FAULT. CAMERA WORKS GREAT! (This only works on my laptop, doesn't work on tablet/cell phone anymore because both my devices updated today.) ----------------------------------------------- I didn't have a high expectations for something that only cost a cool twenty. After receiving it, it's probably the best thing I have purchased in a while. I thought it would be a good addition to our homeschool for all the curious science projects we do. Right now we are raising Monarchs and our new microscope has allowed us to learn more about the caterpillars as they grow. Our children are also bringing in various things like other insects, plant parts and even dirt. I happened to catch a baby grasshopper that had just hatched. It was interesting to learn about grasshopper feet. (Picture included in this review, you can also see how it's a tad out of focus.) We have only had it a few days now and it has definitely been fun. Why the 4 star? A couple "small" reasons that were not big enough to warrant a 3 star rating. First of all, there are absolutely NO directions on how to use the microscope, only how to download a program for using it. It's definitely trial and error when learning to use it. The first problem I had was the use of one of the buttons. There is a button on one side that says "zoom", I have NO idea what that's for. The only thing I notice is that when I press it is that it seems to hold the focus long enough to snap a picture. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine. The button on the other side says "SNAP" which snaps a picture, no issues with that at all. There is one bit of advice I have which is that if you want your picture really in focus, use the external camera button from the cell phone or laptop/tablet instead. The dial above 40x and 1000x is the focus part not the actual magnification you're using. On the OTG cord is a dial for controlling the light, you can also turn it off. If you are able to use slides, you will want the light to be below not above anyhow. So being able to turn the light off is actually a good thing. The reason for the "40x-1000x" is dependent on how you use/move the microscope higher or lower over the object, which in many ways is like a normal microscope. I would suggest to buy a different microscope holder for better control of height over the object. The one provided is good but limited. Unlike other reviews, so far the stand provided does not tip over. There is a piece of round felt under the stand for "grip". When we started using it, I was using my cell phone. I downloaded an app called OTG View on my Android and it works better than the others I did trial and error with. However no matter how well I focus on the object, I did notice the pictures being a bit out of focus. I'm not sure why. I can take better quality pictures if I use my DSLR with macro lens. Then I remind myself, this was only twenty bucks. No big deal! Do be warned, if you use it with your cell phone (USB-C adapter is included), it drains the battery pretty fast. After realizing this, we have been using a laptop instead. However it is still a nice option to be able to use my cell phone if we are out and about. Overall, I recommend this as a simple tool to use. Especially around our curious children (and Georges if you have any ;) ) ... show more

  • Verifying Diamond Serial Numbers
Color: Gray
I ordered this microscope to verify serial numbers for 2 loose diamonds I ordered online. The cost of this microscope was easy to justify for the peace of mind knowing that I got the stones I paid for. This little thing really is incredible for the cost. I find myself looking for things to magnify for no good reason. If you need a microscope that takes pictures and video don't hesitate. This thing is surprisingly great. Photo is of the end of a small paperclip for reference of magnifying potential. ... show more

  • great as a mobile device when connected to a cell or chrombook
Color: Black
The product installed and worked perfect on my windows 10 PC and my Chromebook (once I found the camera settings to select the microscope). It took me some time to get it to work on my cell phone and finally on my Windows 11 PC. But I purchased this for 2 reasons; 1) the inexpensive price and features and 2) the fact I can use it on my cell phone. I can bring it outside to my garden to see what kind of bugs are eating the plants! ... show more

  • Exceeds Expectations
Color: Black
Super easy to use with a great picture quality for $20. I’m very glad I went with this rather than a more expensive model - it gets the job done. Used for identify mint marks and legends on ancient coins.

  • The zoom is there but everything else...
Color: Black
The zoom is good its very strong idk if its 1000x magnify but its close enough tbh. Gonna see some cool stuff with this but its janky and it slowed down my computer by like 4x. My computer was definitely not liking whatever that camera putting. The focus on the camera was very very particular, you will get it at somepoint but if you are a noob like me or getting it for your scifi kid then its really hard to get it to focus. other than that its good for its price but you get what you pay for frl in this case. ... show more

  • Decent microscope at price point
Color: Black
I bought this microscope for viewing small things that were difficult by eye or with a magnifying glass, initially hallmarks on silverware, it does that very well. This is quite a good microscope for the price point, however, it must be noted that the "zoom" is really a focus range. You have to move the camera closer to the item in order to get a larger image and then re-focus using the wheel. There is a very good focus range which makes this possible. The zoom button did not appear to do anything. I had used a similar digital microscope at work, it had a battery, I prefer the USB powered version. I downloaded the various program options, they worked OK for managing pictures and video. Amcap was supposed to allow the zoom button to function but I didn't see any effect from pressing or holding it. Overall I'm happy with the microscope, docked one star for misrepresentation of "zoom". ... show more
